Caveman 2 Cosmos

It won't stop animals from targeting hunters first because hunters have a special ability to jump in the way, assuming they should always take attacks from animals against the stack.

WFL is a souped up Tech Diffusion that does not care if you are the Biggest empire. All you have to be is a tech or 2 behind the "current" tech leader to get it's benefits.

My experience suggests that even if you are the tech leader if you are studying a tech that someone else has you get both TD and WFL but only in the Prehistoric Era

Been playing with TD Off and WFL On, in Classical era now and am the biggest Known empire with 15 cities. Tech leader got to Mounted archery before me (had 9 cities) and declared war on me. 20 turns later I'm still getting WFL benefits and I've now taken 2 of his cities as well. He just got Skirmishers before me but I've picked up 9 Heroes over the last 20 turns too.

I also have Beeline Sting On and so have been more methodical in my research but the AI still beelines.

It has nothing to do with whether you are behind in technology or not Thus it is NOT Tech Diffusion.

It is a tech research rate handicap bonus amount that you get for being behind in population and/or city count to the prospective leaders in those categories. You can be the tech leader and still be getting bonus from WFL so long as your nation doesn't have as many cities as the nation with the most cities and/or your nation doesn't have as much total population as the player with the most total population.

It's a nation size handicap. Nothing to do with how well you're doing in research.

This doesn't keep you from benefiting from a beeline but it does penalize you if your beeline takes you into a new era before you research everything in the previous era, by making what you left behind now cost more.

I'm intending for all gateway techs to give a free tech to the first to research to offset this a little and make the timing of going for all gateway techs a little more strategically tricky. If you get it as early as possible, you may well beat an AI there, but you'll end up causing all the skipped techs to get much more expensive, which may not even make the free tech worth it... possibly.

Then It's Still Broken. I Am the largest Empire, just as I've stated and I still get the bonus research points.

The AI does not care. But it does make them more willing to trade a "left behind" tech for a "leading" tech. And ask for them even up.

Is that in BOTH city count AND population count? Population count may still be the cause even if you have more cities.

True, there's no adjustments to the trade or tech path selection code. Will take some heavy consideration to figure out how the AI should 'evaluate' this as a factor.

So where/how do I find the AI's pop count? Here is a current turn screenshot.
There is one other thing that if pointed out and that is the number of "healers" in Sury's Capital city. I believe meddicap mentioned this in his thread about weak AI. There are 33 Medicine man units in his capital. Rather excessive.

Joe, I really think just showing him a picture is not going to resolve this. . . . save game will let him reverse engineer the causes.

TB, I have noticed that the BARBARIANS and or NEANDERTHALS can sometimes trigger TD ( and I"m assuming this could extend to WFL ) and be listed high on the various tier lists that show up every so often.

Npcs shouldnt be triggering WFL but yeah a save could help to see whats up. There is also a third modifier that can show as a WFL or TD bonus I didnt look too deeply into.

I'll upload the save in the Bugs - SVN thread.

EDIT: Done.

Maybe the AI just really hates Disease and is training all those Medicine Men to fight it? :)

I mean, it's like Park Rangers before all the Air Pollution/water Pollution reducing buildings, you just had to build tons of them to nullify the pollution.

On the flip side, it's hard to fight against 50 Park Rangers, so your cities were pretty safe.

I think it's more to do with the Healer AI than the Property Control AI.

Please follow the guidelines for bug reporting in the first posts in the Bugs and Crashes threads in the Bugs and Crashes sub-forum here. Aka, I need you to upload the save and verify the version you're working on etc... 'the latest patches'-does that mean you're running on the SVN version?

Just downloaded C2C after a long time. I was wondering if I set up a multiplayer game are there any options that are not MP compatible and in general how MP friendly is the mod? Thanks.
