Caveman 2 Cosmos

Oh and on the prehistoric era, not got past that yet, but how come there are soooo many animals? I've got a brand new PC that handles other mods no problem, but the sheer amount of animals is ridiculous, is there a way to tone this down for my own personal preference?

Are you familiar with Subdued Animals? Also there is an Option called Peace Among NPCs. If that option is On ( box checked) the Predator and Beast plus the Neanderthals and Barbs will not fight each other or try to capture the Prey animals. With it unchecked all animals spawns will be unhindered except by AI and Player Civs. BVoth Killing and Subduing animals has rewards.

In Assets/XML there is a file "A_New_Dawn_GlobalDefines.XML". The item you are looking for is ANIMAL_SPAWN_MODIFIER. It is a percentage. 80 is currently the suggested number. Reduce it to reduce the number of new animals spawned.

There are also items for sea animals, Nenanderthals and Barbarians that work. Bandits does not work or didn't since their bases etc have not yet been added to the game.

Just downloaded C2C after a long time. I was wondering if I set up a multiplayer game are there any options that are not MP compatible and in general how MP friendly is the mod? Thanks.
Sorry for the delayed answer. MP is pretty stable last we played. I might not play with revolutions as i think there are some oos errors lurking there and I advise to move units, ships in particular, one round at a time. Theres something amiss in pathing causing an occasional oos still. And try not to set a wonder to build that the other player has set... Something about that can also cause an oos. But if you are careful you can often get a long ways without having an oos. When you do, both should exit completely and reload from desktop.

Given that i was recently informed that animal spawns scale to gamespeed, i suspect that it can feel like way too many spawns take place on faster speeds. Should we try to address that somehow?

Actually it's the inverse for Faster speeds. You have way less turns to deal with animals and so you end up with less animals overall than the longer slower GS.

But the other player complaining was looking into WB into landmasses that were not even discovered yet! Sort of like crying wolf when you have not even went outdoors yet.

That is what "scale to game speed" is supposed to mean

I get it but this can also mean on fast gamespeeds your hunters can be too swarmed to do much exploring so you actually explore faster on slower speeds.

All relative actually. You don't need to explore so fast on the faster speeds because your neighbors are doing just like you....grabbing the best animals in the fastest time. Exploring usually takes off after you've gotten Mace or Axe on the faster speeds. By that time hunters are tag-alongs in many cases to pick up those special animals that mean more.

I might feel a bit too hemmed in on a faster speed is all. Its an interesting scaling that can dramatically change the feel of the game in unexpected ways is my point... Not like a scaling tech cost y'know.

exactly

I remember subdued animals from previous games of C2C, but that was a long time ago, is there something I should know about it in particular? It sounds like you're alluding to something obvious that I've missed. I'll have to check if I have that box checked. I was playing the GEM world map scenario with 5-6 starting civs, so I think I may have to start again with custom scenario. Simultaneously I was playing a MP game with a friend and we were both getting hemmed in by animals more often than not. That was on a much smaller map, but both times the game speed was the slowest. I understand that killing and subduing animals has rewards, I just got the impression that without a small army I was fighting a never-ending bountiful tide of beasts, let's just say my people only hardship would be gout. :)

Thanks, that's really useful advice and I can hopefully work out what suits my play preference now, I love the other aspects of the mod as they are so far.

Thanks, great advice again. I'll report anything game breaking.

Hi, this is my game right now, not very far into it, turn 136. Monarch and Marathon. I have about 4 units out and about and they are getting hemmed in. I'm the Sumerians and here you can see the Egyptians suffering from the same animal overload. You can even see the black mass of animals on the mini-map! I think I'll scale back my spawn rate quite considerably as turn times are about 25 seconds already. This is without Peace Among NPCs (un-checked).

Do you mean Pit's UEM? C2C doesn't have a Gigantic Earth Map available out side of Pit's scenario. We used to have a Giant Earth Map (GEM) but the Mapmaker for it has not updated to match C2C new terrain and terrain features.

There is C2C_World map available though.

And how fast do you want later game turns to be at end of turn processing? Marathon would be faster than Snail.

1 last set of questions; what version of C2C are you using? The v37 Official release, the SVN current version, or the Patched V37 I put up yesterday in the v37 Update/Patches thread https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/update-patches-for-v37.613571/unread

Is this on the latest SVN version?

He said he just d/l'd C2C after a long time not playing. So it most likely is v37 if he got it from ModDb. I didn't have the 9567 "Patch" linked yet when he 1st posted.

Plus that is an Earth Map he is playing on. His screenie is of middle Africa and as big as that is he's probably also using Pit's UEM or C2C_World. The Map is very well defined.

We just have to keep probing and hopefully keep teaching the Players to give More Details about their game and it's set up. ;)

Lord Brooks the above link will get you the Latest Version Of C2C. We are well past v37 that was released on ModDB. Many things have changed since v37 was uploaded.

It reminds of eons ago when we had the issue of giant stacks of barbs (21+) or hordes of snakes. That was fun...:undecide:

Thanks. I'll use that one. I'm new to this mod, so I'm not fully aware of all the threads and although I use the svn version of Realism Invictus, I've not gone with the svn version of C2C yet, but so far so good and I probably will at some point soon. Thanks again for the help.
