Caveman 2 Cosmos

You may be able to settle at least near there earlier; Architecture (or a tech near it) allows settling on mountains, which is a good few eras sooner. Another option would be to see if you can build a farm that spreads irrigation to the rocky tile currently marked as '2' in your image, as freshwater ought to allow the terrain to be settled. Rocky terrain might be unavailable to be farmed though, can't recall.

I believe you're thinking of terrain that's completely invalid, i.e. water. Terrain that can be settled if conditions are met (Salt Flats, if there is a source of fresh water, as in the screenshot) should also have the darkened icon, whose mouseover tooltip when the settler is on the tile will inform you of the missing condition(s).
I know for a fact that I was getting NO (not just DARKENED) "Settling Picture" from simple Deserts, but that was in the first 1-2 Eras, so maybe it would change later on.
In any case, I'm still right that his screenshot doesn't follow his complaint - the highlighted tile is [Hills/Desert], NOT [Salt Flats].
And C2C is very specific about its terrains, lol.

Your question isn't correlating with your screenshot.
The darkened CITY picture *usually* means that it's too close to another city, not that the terrain forbids building it.
In the latter case you don't get the CITY picture altogether in the first place.
But your case looks WEIRD, to be honest.
Unless there's a hidden city right to the left from the mountain square, which is why you get a darkened CITY picture.
Anyways, unless I'm somehow wrong (but I doubt it), this is a signal of "too close", not "wrong terrain".

If you look at the white patch in between the mountains, then you will notice that it is a salt flat. You cannot build cities on salt flats. That's all I wanted to show

Not the way mouse-over SHOULD work, though.
It clearly shows your units being told to go there, and thus your current mouse-over SHOULD be "reading" the (3) tile.
Which is [Hills/Desert] and gives you just 1 little [Hammer].
Whereas the actual units stand on something that is clearly a [Forest] of sorts, and gives you a ton of stuff.
Sorry, but [Hills/Desert] makes much more sense to be the "1 Hammer" tile, not the one where the units are currently on.
Oh, silly me, it STATES so in the mouse-over hint, lol - that it's BOTH [Hills/Desert] AND gives you "1 Hammer".
So, again, that tile is NOT [Salt Flats].
Or something is GLITCHY here.
And anyways, the bigger question is the DARK picture, not the tile type.
As far as I know, the DARK picture means:
"We CAN build here, but it's too close to another city."
If it's a TILE problem, I already said that I've seen NO picture when trying to build on a [Desert].
Not just DARK, NONE.
So there must be a technical difference, definitely.
But I have no idea as of what specifically.

Is Irrigation the same as fresh water though? With Modern Seismology I can build a groundwater well, which spreads irrigation. However, will that be sufficient?

EDIT. Running now. :)
... Can't get C2C to load - April 2021. Help plz. (I've read all the above numbered points = none apply to my situation.) Reinstalled civ4 complete from valid CD > to D:drive = w admin privileges. Then installed Caveman2cosmos v41 (bts/mods). Civ4 runs fine. When I select mods, and then C2Cmod, I get small dialog box with message = "runtime error ... BTS ...ended unusual way." Mod can't be in My Documents

Excuse me? Error logs in my documents / my games, yada, DEFAULT location. Mod is in mod folder inside BTS, inside civ 4, on D drive.

Unfortunately, applying patch did not resolve issue. Related: Installed Fall from Heaven 2. Ran this mod -- same result. I played FfH2 mod a decade ago with no problems. (Actually helped play test / find bugs when FfH2 was still in development..). SO, since many others are playing modpack Chronicles without issues -- must be one of my settings ... just not sure which (hate win10... lol). Again, thnak you for your help.

Try getting C2C from the SVN repository.
https://github.com/caveman2cosmos/Caveman2Cosmos/wiki/Using-SVN

Some people get corrupt zip archive when downloading from modDB.
I think someone had issues when unzipping it with winRar, but not when using 7z, I may be entirely off on that, just seem to vaguely remember something like that.

SVN is more foolproof, and you get a newer version of C2C to boot.

I only use 7z -- but thanks. SVN -- I tried this for A New Dawn a few years ago. SVN required registering for a whole set of SVN programs, etc that my PC flagged. I remember reading that it allowed helping to refine the modmod. -- a good thing. Will check out the SVN thingy again. :)

Went to SVN. Yep -- same thingy -- tortise . Guess if I cant get C2C to run regular -- then tortise isn't going to help. Too much work just to have same nurf when I select load mod > C2C. Thanks anyway. Hard pass of Tursise.

Tortoise is a registry intrusive system but I've never heard of it causing any damage at all except that I did have a little icon conflict with dropbox once. It's actually a very good program and in all the years and thousands of SVN downloads I've never heard of anyone having real bugs because of it. The SVN version is usually the best debugged current version release we have at any time and if you need us to fix a bug it's the way you'll get the fix afterward unless you wait half a year or more for the next release.

My wife and I just installed from disks CivIV, warlords, bts, then patched to 3.19. A working patch is HARD to find but BtS wasn't working at all until we did. Then of course C2C was not a problem for us. From what it sounds like, maybe you put the Caveman2Cosmos mod folder inside a C2C named folder inside your mods folder.

Regardless of if you have the SVN version or the latest download package, make sure the mod itself (the folder) is located in your Program Files (x86) -> Firaxis Games -> Sid Meier's Civilization 4 -> Beyond the Sword -> Mods directly and that its name is NOTHING other than Caveman2Cosmos. IF you look inside that folder, you should be able to see a number of folders directly within from there, one of which should be named Assets. Alternative names on the Caveman2Cosmos mod folder can cause it to fail. Also make sure to run the game as an administrator.

Then go ahead and launch BtS and load the Caveman2Cosmos mod. If it is there listed as anything but that, you've done something wrong.

Thank you for kind and very complete reply. Yes, mod is installed correctly. Patch3.19 installed (and copy archived just in case). Always run as admin. Tried compatibility mods as well. I have c2c running fine now. One tiny issue. The game screen is now a tiny bit too big for monitor. A small bit of game screen extends beyond edges (top and sides) of monitor. Suggestions? In any case, thank you for taking time to assist. :)

Choose some different settings in your graphic options which is set in the main game options panel (think ORIGINAL civ IV options) which I think can even be set outside the game but either way any resolution changes there will require a restart of the game to take effect. Some size settings work better on some monitors than others and don't assume larger is better - it can miniaturize things tremendously to pick too large a res.

Just make sure to keep your unit animations on or you'll cause some trouble for your reskinned units and start seeing knights where there are pigs and such.

The civ's ini file is in the main BtS folder and whether you play in full screen or window mode is set there and may have something to do with what you're talking about too. Otherwise you can sometimes find that if you're on full screen, the problem with such a thing as you explain COULD be the screen settings you have on your physical screen itself - zooming in just a little too far perhaps.

Hey hey people, did anyone encounter the problem, where they can't found Mining Inc. HQ, while having all of the necessary prereqs? I have iron ore in city vicinity, an officium building, a great engineer, all within a size 23 city. Both the 'corporations' and 'railroad' techs have been researched.

Do I need any specific civics to found a corporation?

Regards.

You aren't playing with Realistic Corporations are you? It makes it so you don't get to choose how and where and when corps are founded.

Of course I am :). Thank you for the swift reply! I have just one more question - are there any modifiers as to how and when corporations spawn? I assume the tech has to be researched.
Also, I feel like the description of realistic corps should be changed a bit, as it doesn't actually specify that spawning is also out of player control.

They spawn when 2 or more civs have all the prerequisites for it to exist I think; something like that, so if you are the only advanced civ, corporations won't form under realistic corp option..

I am currently playing as a benevolent superpower. I uplift species, as soon as they stop being minor. Troglodyte Hitler just got given 100 or so free techs. Guess I'll have to give everyone the required techs. Thank you, tho.
