Introduction: Welcome to the most detailed, solid and longest Caveman2Cosmos Lets play ever. If you've never played civilization 4 or caveman2cosmos before then you've come to the right place. Not only is this let's play extremely descriptive and tutorial-like, you will actually see the full game without missing chunks or "I Surrender" like other lets plays have. BEST OF ALL!!!! NO WAITING FOR AI!!!! AI TURN TIME IS CUT OUT!!!

Warning: The first episode is way too descriptive for those who already know how to play so check out this breakdown of the first episode below to decide if you really wanna watch it or not... If you don't care about it being too descriptive then just watch the whole thing without reading the breakdown. My favorite parts are probably 41:50 - 43:15 when we first meet a person from the Egyptian tribe and 50:40 - 54:00 when we find their "city" lol... The funny things they do ;)

First Episode Minutes Breakdown:

Spoiler :
0:00 - 4:00 Title Screen - explaining what civ4 is and how caveman to cosmos greatly expands it.
4:00 - 14:30 Settings Screen - displaying and explaining the settings I chose for this game.
14:30 - 15:50 Intial Australian tribe screen.
15:50 - 19:15 First Turn - explaining the units, movement mechanics and square map layout. The waiting for ai of the first turn is not cut out just to show the viewers what ai turn time is and from that point on all future ai turn time is smoothly cut out.
19:15 - 30:00 Second Turn - I build canberra (my first city) and then explain the basics of city management in quite a bit of depth.
30:00 - 41:15 3rd Turn - I briefly touch on the tech tree, find a tribal village, briefly explain what gatherers/tile improvements are and then explain the negative effects (workers refusing to work) when cities become unhappy.
41:15 - 41:50 A few more turns of exploration.
41:50 - 43:15 I meet the Egyptians and humorously point out some things in the "meeting screen" that don't quite make sense with this mod.
43:15 - 47:15 A very basic look at civics and a few civics that are negatively effecting us currently.
47:15 - 50:40 Explanation of unexplored islands and then a quick look at the tech tree at rafts and future boats.
50:40 - 54:00 We find the strange Egyptian tribe's "city" with gatherers who do... Tribe like and strange things.
54:00 - 54:50 Explanation of line of sight.
55:40 - 59:10 Checking out what the technology "gathering" unlocks for us.
59:10 - 1:01:30 Begin researching Language and a brief explanation of gatherers.
1:01:30 - 1:16:55 Exploring the map and meeting 3 new civs.

Don't Forget To Watch In 720p!!!

Episode 1: http://youtu.be/1zv_XT1YPJw
Warning: I incorrectly identify commerce in worked tiles as gold but correct my mistake in episode 3.
In this episode we set up the game and start out with our rock thrower and band of Homo sapiens sapiens in the year 50,000BC. We then set up our tribal camp named "Canberra" and use our rock thrower to explore the nearby lands in search of tribal villages. While exploring we meet a few nearby tribes such as the Egyptians who get annoyed with us because we walked near their borders while their gatherers were taking a dump ;)

Episode 2: http://youtu.be/6UgvSeHvw-I
Well... bad luck finally strikes us. Everything seems to be going OK until our stone thrower and wanderer encounter some wild animals. We also get excited about being able to create some powerful Neanderthal units yet stumble across exactly how to make them.

Episode 3: http://youtu.be/zG1ktcsxljw
It's payback time! We make a wanderer to replace the one we lost and go on a mini rampage. Points wise we don't seem to be going too bad to compared to the civs we have found so far.

Episode 4: http://youtu.be/sLmMWZVtqrg
The good luck streak with our wanderer finally ends so we decided to upgrade to a scout. While exploring with our scout we come across a few neanderthals. At first it's no problem but eventually our scout gets into a sticky situation it just can't escape. But hey... its not too bad because now we have some "prehistoric background music".

Episode 5: http://youtu.be/i7xZdJ3Jnh4
Well... two things are now obvious... Spiked clubman are not great vs neanderthals and neanderthals run away when you approach them with spiked clubmen. Just as I thought we were safe to use our spiked clubman to explore I realized I was dead wrong. I'd had enough of making more fighting units... it was time to prepare for our first freedom marker... Rafts.

Episode 6: http://youtu.be/fUcHQhhSpmA
Finally we break free from the land to explore the coasts of our own and a new continent. Along the way we tease bears, neanderthals and deadly pigeons who watch us from the land yet are unable to attack us. All seems to be going well until our raft comes across a crocodile. At least we can officially call ourselves a tribe now that tribalism has been researched.

Episode 7: http://youtu.be/meZYIK63f8U
It's time to expand! In this episode we build our second city Sydney and get a few scouts to fortify on our own continent and the nearby continent. We discover that the "uninhabited island" is more inhabited than we initially thought and luckily this discovery allows us to make peace with the civilizations currently at war with us. On top of that we found our 3rd city Melbourne after battling with many wild animals and also prepare to found our 4th city.

Episode 8: http://youtu.be/kNiPwaVik08
Seriously just skip this stupid episode. My microphone volume level stuffed up so you can't properly hear my voice. The episode was 1.5 hours long but 30 minutes in I made a save that I was going to send to Koshing yet decided not to. I decided to scrap the last hour of this episode making it only 30 minutes long and I am going to load up the save file from the file I was going to send to Koshing rather than where I officially saved one hour later so you don't miss anything. Watch this stupid episode if you want... but don't say I didn't warn you!

Episode 9: http://youtu.be/fn38RoboVO8
Exploration, Expansion, War Declaration and entry into the new era... Yep this episode has it all! I finally build up the courage to explore the desert of my own continent, the coast and inland of the nearby continent and... realize that a raft just won't cut it anymore. If we are going to have any chance against enemy canoes and dangerous sea creatures we're gunna have to upgrade to a galley. On the bright side we founded our 4th city "Brisbane" on the nearby continent and were the first out of all the other civs to reach the ancient era.

Episode 10: http://youtu.be/QM6qotpn7As
Well... My civilization made it to the ancient era without wearing any cloths but I just had to give them some since Australians are not nudists! Oh and I also got some trained dogs in all my cities in case some "invisible people" come to terrorize my people. I also found a barbarian city with an atlatl that killed my scout that had just hiked through the entire desert while a bunch of sea creatures destroyed my raft. That was the final straw so I decided to upgrade to War Canoes and spend ages preparing to get my first Galley.

Episode 11: http://youtu.be/6Q8tVh5FSes
Its time to expand... AGAIN! On the nearby continent we build our 5th and 6th cities "Adelaide" and "Perth" then upgrade our atlatl's to archers to help defend our new cities. We aim to expand our borders in hope to get some fish for our cities which will ultimately lead to us gaining access to powerful units called "Koa's" but sadly don't make that goal this episode.

Episode 12: http://youtu.be/71-aJbj01w4
Finally I upgrade my scouts to hunters and greatly improve the culture and production of my newer cities. Unintentionally I experience premature backwards time travel which allows me to prevent the unexpected death of one of my hunters. Sadly I realise that the past can not be tampered with and history repeats itself to prevent a world altering paradox.

Episode 13: http://youtu.be/QnvliQeXm9U
In this episode we work wonders! Well... Build them. We start of with The Sphinx followed by the pyramids and then aim for the valley of the kings. Our hunter gets arctic combat promotions allowing him to move freely and painlessly in cold tundra and permafrost environments. Oh and last but not least... we found our first religion, Mesopotamism.

Episode 14: http://youtu.be/plpa1ChP3IM
After a group of barbarian maceman and atlatls "destroy" some of our workers I decide its time to go on a rampage with my archers against the barbarians. The rampage wasn't as satisfying as I thought it would be however and I still had many archers left so I then did something a little more drastic... Took over a weaker civ's city. Now the war begins!

Episode 15: http://youtu.be/RoUtquqNQ2I
The Maori Civilization may have lost their city "Waikato" but my mighty Australians didn't feel fully satisfied with their accomplishment. Taking over another Maori city was all that was on their minds. That and finally researching currency so they could rush/buy buildings and units rather than spend many turns building them.

Episode 16: http://youtu.be/VqwATINKWoU
Finally we get the Valley of the Kings wonder after failure to get it previously. We spend a lot of time checking out the other civ's cities and how well protected they are. The culture border expansion of Adelaide seemed too far off so I choose another method in which I could acquire fish. The powerful Koa units are almost ours!

Episode 17: http://youtu.be/TKxWu9pppTQ
The powerful Koa units are finally ours and we don't hesitate to try them out. First of all we fix up our lack of money situation and then build our small Koa army in preparation for our first major city take down. Memphis, the once Egyptian city is now under our control. Unfortunately it's citizens don't like us especially since their city is crime-torn, filthy and depressed.

Episode 18: http://youtu.be/84Xo7S8pt6c
Memphis becomes a smaller yet happier and healthier place to be as we try to fix up its problems. While trying to improve living conditions in Memphis and our other cities I decide to attempt taking over another civ's city. My Koa's may be powerful but even with 5 of them taking over a city isn't a walk in the park.

Episode 19: http://youtu.be/gfV0KZrC8Ec
Finally I figure out how to assign multiple cities to all build the same buildings or units at once. I also have a little peak into the modern era of the tech tree and get amazed by the powerful "Very Heavy Tank" unlocked by Dieselpunk. Finally I set out on a goal to wipe out egypt but sadly I realise my Koa's are starting to become a little outdated.

Episode 20: http://youtu.be/JU4TxHOuNus
My small army of Koa's just aren't enough to take over any more Egyptian cities. It's time to choose a new target, create a bigger army and try to keep my cities as happy and healthy as possible in the process.

Episode 21: http://youtu.be/umLl8G5eJ4M
Finally after lots of planning I create a huge Koa army and use it to take over the capital city of the Maroi civilization know as "Ngapuhi". I also reveal many sources of sulfur on the map by researching Ancient Ballistics. This also allowed me to upgrade all my archers to crossbowmen.

Episode 22: http://youtu.be/2RLD5WUIw1Y
My Koa's have been officially outdated since they are unable to properly take over cities efficiently. Now it's all about preparing for the middle ages by upgrading my Koa's to swordsmen, building a siege workshop and getting my first siege units. The catapult and siege tower are now my new units for mass destruction. Its time to build up an unbreakable army!

Episode 23: http://youtu.be/HBxsqfgcU_c
Finally I finish building my large army of swordsmen, catapults, siege towers and siege rams to take over a few new cities. Initially I wanted to go after the Greece but when Ragnar declares war on me I decide that it's time to wipe out the Scandinavian cities so that he never threatens me again.

Episode 24: http://youtu.be/PWPhhJbyX7k
Finally I wipe out my first civilization: The Scandinavians. I may have seen the last of Ragnar but there are over 20 more civilizations still competing with me in my developing world. After taking over Ragnar's last city I begin to think about which civilization I wish to wipe out next.

Episode 25: http://youtu.be/7Nz2ol_lakY
I may have just wiped out the Scandinavians but I am no where near done yet! Some of my cities are still yearning to rejoin the Maori Civilization so what should I do? Destroy the last two Maori cites so that my people no longer complain about wanting to join that puny civilization.

Episode 26: Missing
This episode just involved some boring stabilization just after the massive take over of cities. Nothing interesting happened and the episode didn't even record (due to bandicam) so this episode is not uploaded!

Episode 27: http://youtu.be/T5CGPbaalxU
Wiping out all those civilizations and taking over their cities has left me financially insecure. In this episode I work towards stabilizing my empire and working towards building a fleet of ships to explore the oceans and discover new lands.

Commenting: Feel free to comment either here or on YouTube about absolutely anything when it comes to this lets play. Whether its about what I have done, what I should do or if you like or dislike the episodes. Just tell me what's on your mind :)

P.S Don't forget to tell me how much you love not having to wait for AI turns!

Looks very good boss I see that you really thought this out and elaborated on all the details you said you would. Here is some steam to motivate you to keep going! Keep them videos coming!

Been looking forward to this. Ever since I realized my computer couldn't handle this mod anymore I've been trying to keep up with the changes made. It will be nice to see things in action.

Watching now...

No city limits from civics?! That's.... by god, you're actually going to play that way?!

Look, I'm sorry, but disabling the city limits AND revolutions is really a pretty silly way to play the game in my opinion. I'll still watch, anyways, but that's...it's just not C2C anymore...

Make sure you go into the BUG and put all the options you'd like ("Minimize AI turn time" is in there, and I'd love for you to put on Terrain damage.)

Also, you can go into "Game options" (near the save and load game options) to change your name to AstralPhaser, or whatever you'd like.

Also, ha... the reason all the tribal villages are gone is because you put almost double the recommended amount of civs on the map...

Oh, and please turn on the resource display.

Ok, so I have watched it now! Good job! I am liking that you edit out the AI turn time! You got really unlucky with that start, being so near to ice and tundra. Will be interesting to see how you cope! I think it is great that you explained everything so thoroughly, as it will help new players get into the game.

You requested comments, so here are a few:

I can only watch in 480 and not in 720?

Tools are way more important to the early parts of the game than food is! Basically you have no chance of growing your city anyway, even if you work food tiles, so I think you would be better of working one of the 2 hammer tiles instead. As you explained, you won't loose anything by not having enough food anyways. Also, the Stick gatherer is a really important early building!

Next time you play, please open the BUG menu! There are some things that I think you should look at! For example: Terrain Damage (realistically damages units visiting deserts and ice tiles (not sure the AI understands this option, though), Archer Barrage (making shooters able to shoot at units at other tiles without attacking), Minimize AI turn times (makes the game speed up the AI turn times by not updating the graphics untill all calculations are made)... There are a ton of options!

One option I think you should have enabled is "Start as Minors". That would mean that every civ starts out as minor civs, meaning barbarians, basically, and thus at war with every other civ without being able to communicate with them. This lasts until you research Writing, with turn you into a proper civ, being able to communicate with other civs having researched Writing. In my mind, this is the way to play c2c, because without it, you get into the silly situations you comment about.

You are wrong about the effects of the option "No tech diffusion". Tech diffusion will NOT give free techs to people that are a bit behind. It just means that techs are a few percent cheaper to research for every other civ that have already gotten it. The idea is that you have heard about the tech from travelers from other lands, and thus hve an easier time researching it yourselves. It is there to help backwards civs catch up, and to help prevent the snow ball effect.

@wolfensoul9
Both No Revolutions and No City limits are options that help the AI develop. It does not understand the Revolutions mod, but as this has been discussed before, I will not say more here. No city limits is helping by allowing the AI to build more cities faster, and not choke to death by doing so. To my knowledge, the AI do not understand this setting either, and thus will expand anyway, with the result of having excess unhappiness. I would like both of these options to work for the AI, because I like the idea of both of them, but now they don't. So, I like the fact that he disabled them. EDIT: Koshling informed me that I was wrong, and that the AI can handle City Limits. If he says they can handle them, then I believe him.

Hmm...^

Well...I was okay with him disabling REV, for the exact reason you gave. The AI just isn't smart with it. Is it really true that they disregard the happiness penalties from overexpansion...? Are they really that dumb? Wish Koshling or someone knowledgeable in this could confirm. If so, then I guess it's...well...alright.

Still...C2C is supposed to be about slow growth. Now, as soon as he gets tribalism, he can just put one city after another, only concerned about maintainence, and lord knows money is not a problem in this mod. It's just not in the C2C spirit..

Are these features really so broken as to need to be turned off?

I can actually turn your own argument against you, too. I've heard that the "start as minor civs" choice makes the AI obbsessively concerned with unit building. It thinks, "Ahhh! I'm at war with EVERYONE! I need to have enough units to protect against a possible four pronged attack!" Hence, it should be turned off.

If only the AI was better, we could use these nifty and I daresay, integral to C2C, features...

On a side note, I see TC is quite adept in the dream world. Wish I had such fortune. I usually only get a few dreams a year, ha...

Hmmm, why do not this in the stories area so it gets more attention?

That was Sooooo funny!

You have Much to learn grasshopper Phillip! ;)

Wait till the animals and Neanderthals show up! :mischief:

But it's what a new player would experience and probably think till they found out "why".

JosEPh :D

It's your opinion of course, but you'll find Many ppl play without Rev and City Limits.

Let the man play and discover.

That's actually something I'm a bit curious about...^

How many games of C2C have you played, TC?

^Who's TC? Do you mean TW (TowerWizard)?

JosEPh :)

@12padams

Some comments ...

1. How To Pronounce Sioux.

2. You should have shown the BUG menu to show off advanced settings like Terrain Damage.

3. If you had selected "Minor Civ" then you would not have had the awkward meeting of the Egyptians where neither of you have a language but can still talk. Since with minor civs you cannot conduct diplomacy until Writing tech. Thus simulating a way to communicate.

The AI understands city limits just fine, and evaluates its interaction with happiness accordingly. It also understands REV a lot better than people assert. It's just that failure with other mechanics (such as crime) often eventually manifest as REV breakups, fior indirect reasons.

I'm at war with EVERYONE! I need to have enough units to protect against a possible four pronged attack!" Hence, it should be turned off.

That would turn my argument against me, if it was not for the fact that this is exactly the way I feel too. Since I am at war with everyone, I have to defend myself by building a ton of units, to guard important tiles and to replace all my scouts/trackers/defenders that gets killed by trackers/hunters/whatever. Also, I am off course battling the AI on their own turf, to take more cities before tribalism. So, not really turning the argument around, I am afraid. More like defining exactly what the option really is about.

If you say the AI can handle City Limits, then I believe you.

However, regardless of how the AI fails at using Revolutions, it still fails.

Warning... This post was too long to grammar/spell check so sorry in advance for all the mistakes within it :(

No city limits from civics?! That's.... by god, you're actually going to play that way?!
I know I don't like it either :( It's just that the ai struggles without it... I will however do another lets play with these turned on and with a later version when the devs believe they have fixed the problem. My next lets play will have no explaination since I've already done it all in this one lol.
I'd love for you to put on Terrain damage.)
Yea ok... I thought that was on by default but I will put it on now.
Also, ha... the reason all the tribal villages are gone is because you put almost double the recommended amount of civs on the map...
Hmm... Whoops lol but without revs on we can't really get many civs so that's why I did it that way lol
Oh, and please turn on the resource display.
lol I never play without resource display on ever.... It's just for this lets play I was waiting to explain it first before it turned it on. In other words once I could actually start using resources but I guess I could turn it on now and say these are resources I'll show you how we can use them later.
Ok, so I have watched it now! Good job! I am liking that you edit out the AI turn time!
Yay someone likes how I edited out ai turn time! Well... It only makes a 3 minute difference in this video but in future videos this will be much more important...
You got really unlucky with that start, being so near to ice and tundra.
Lol we will see how bad I go lol... Hopefully I survive at least 10 episodes...
I think it is great that you explained everything so thoroughly, as it will help new players get into the game.
Well... If I see any new players around I'll make sure to link them to this series.
I can only watch in 480 and not in 720?
Youtube proccesses the video in 480p first and then takes a day or to to process in 720p. I recorded it running the game at 1280x720 (usually I would play at 1680x1050 but it take up too much room during recording) so it will be available to watch in 720p once youtube finishes processing it. I tried to warn you guys to wait before watching it but you couldn't wait... I'll be sure to wait for it to process in 720p before I tell you it's uploaded from now on.
Tools are way more important to the early parts of the game than food is! As you explained, you won't loose anything by not having enough food anyways. Also, the Stick gatherer is a really important early building!
Yea as soon as I finished recording I looked at the video as I edited it and said "damn, why was a so stupid! I should have worked the 2 production tile instead". Also... I usually put production increasing buildings at the top of my to do list but I already said I would make a wanderer next a little earlier so I couldn't go against my word unfortunately.
Terrain Damage (realistically damages units visiting deserts and ice tiles (not sure the AI understands this option, though), Archer Barrage (making shooters able to shoot at units at other tiles without attacking)
I'll be sure to put those on as soon as I start episode 2. I won't film myself looking through bug so instead I'll go through it and then film the options I chose.
Minimize AI turn times (makes the game speed up the AI turn times by not updating the graphics untill all calculations are made)
Yes but at the cost of no ai unit animations. I prefer to have them in. Also ai turn time is actually good for me because I have RSI and need to take small breaks anyway so ai turn time is my break lol. It's not only a break for my hands but also a break for my voice and best of all you don't watch it in this lets play so that's awesome :)
I'll do this in my next lets play (early next year)... It's just that I was worried about not being able to communicate and having constant war because I am avoiding war like the plague right now... Animals and barbarians will be enough to handle initially.
Ah ok... I'll correct myself in the next episode. I still don't like it though... Strangely enough I am one of the select few who like the snowball effect and want some civs to be far ahead and some far behind.
Are these features really so broken as to need to be turned off?
Yes I argued for ages in the peroration thread for this lets play to have city limites and revs on because the game was boring without them. They (I'm sure it was koshing) said the ai would struggle and just to take a look at shens lets play to see how badly the ai copes with these features on. I will make another lets play in the future once the ai improves so I can have these features on. I also won't be explaining the game anymore so it will be less boring to those who already know how to play.
On a side note, I see TC is quite adept in the dream world. Wish I had such fortune. I usually only get a few dreams a year, ha...
Yea... I should not have put the tag "12padams" in my video... I will remove it from my future ones because I wanted to completly separated the phase researcher side of myself from the gamer side of me. Just for the record though I make specific plans in real life then use specific techniques to enter conscious dreams (known as the phase state) so I can perform my plans within them. This is stuff like meeting a person I have never met before in real life and asking them for their name and age then drawing their appearance upon forcing myself awake.

It's interesting that these dream characters talk like another person... Like they are not really you but their answers are either from the subconscious mind or... The theory of linked consciousness or astral projection is real. Still... All discussion about that should remain only over at obe4u.com where I am global moderator and a phase teacher/researcher. So don't discuss that here... It's way off topic lol ;)

Just for the record you have dreams every night but forget them due to poor dream recall. To improve your dream recall write down your dreams upon awakening... For me I remember dreams from every night... But conscious dreaming (a.k.a lucid dreaming or phase state entry) is much harder to achieve. A normal dream is controlled by your subconscious while a consious dream is you completly awake in a world created by your subconscious. But yea... All discussion about that should remain at obe4u.com!

Hmmm, why do not this in the stories area so it gets more attention?
Where exactly is that section?

That was Sooooo funny!

You have Much to learn grasshopper Phillip!

Wait till the animals and Neanderthals show up!

But it's what a new player would experience and probably think till they found out "why".

JosEPh
Oh I know... I played once in chieftain to midieval era to learn how to play just before starting this lets play. I had rev and city limits on and was dominating... It will be a real shock when I discover how much more difficult it is without a struggling ai and without difficulty level bonuses.

How many games of C2C have you played, TC?
Well... That's literally my second game. The first was just a game with really easy settings so I could test it all out. I found it fun to stop my cities rebelling with rev on but it's sad I can't play with that in this lets play :( Still ill be making multiple lets plays anyway so don't worry about it lol :)

You can also post your YouTube video using the YouTube forum code. Like so ...
grrrr I tried to do that lol! It just displayed it as white for some reason though... Still does it allow 720p to be viewed if its embedded?
