Since this project is heavily hindered by the fact that we can't mess around with the game files why not export caveman2cosmos to an open source civ engine such as free civ: http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

That way you could modify and code the engine the way you like and get it to go into space without breaking rules and limitations that civ 4 has. Maybe this would be a good base rather than starting from scratch... Of course a civ engine with better graphics than free civ would be preferred ;)

Anyway discuss your thoughts :)

Wow those graphics are...awful. I would hate to go backwards in graphics quality when the gameplay quality of C2C as a civ mod is so high...

Isn't AXXXXE enough?

What's that? If its the current engine civ 4 is using or something then no. It's aweful because coders such as koshling have to work around it all the time because its not open source. If civ 4 was open source it would be easy to do multimaps but nup... Koshlings struggling due to not being able to modify files that need to be modified. If caveman to cosmos became a freeciv mod then anything would be possible... Even multimaps ;)

Maybe this could be used as a base then improved graphics could be added and the engine moddified to fit the c2c needs? What do you think? Better than starting from scratch?

Soz for promoting software freedom right now. Ever since trying out Ubuntu for the first time I have become a real linux/opensource/software freedom fan. Infact here is a video of myself getting turned into a Linux fanboy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuTv92LOy1U

We've been discussing this very same thing for the past 4 months or so with AXXXXE. It wouldn't by any means be a direct remake of C2C, as there are many underlying concepts that AIAndy and Koshling want to change, and many game concepts I'd love to change if we are starting from the ground up, but it will be an open source civ engine with more or less modern graphics.

a Direct remake would include a lot of the Current flaws and limitations :p so best not to make a Direct remake :p
