CBob04 Achtung Panzer!

And we are in turn 1 of our Golden age. That was sort of accidental, I never realized that finishing Newton's University would give us our GA. :( On the other hand, having the GA at the start of the IA is not a bad moment. With the 5 luxes we have now (2 imports) we can do 4 turn research (steam in 4). If we can research 5 IA techs in our GA including Scientific Method, we will have 7 IA techs in 20 turns, that will basically fix our tech lead for the rest of the game. I think we should research steam, electricty, RP, Industrialization and Sci Meth in our GA. And start a prebuild for ToE very soon.

...Techwise, I finished Steam Power and Industrialization in 4 turns each, with Electricity in 2.

Short Term Strategy
....
There was some clever planning on the thread about how to get Coal so we could build our railnet.
Also some discussion on what to learn after Eletricity.
Overseer learned Steam Power and Industrialization and got two turns into Electricity. I'll finish out the Big E and then start on Replacement Parts (faster workers, plus Infantry and Artillery) and then Scientific Method.

I need to start a prebuild for Theory of Evolution, which is available with Sci Methods. Do we want/need a prebuild for Hoover Dam (Electronics)? I'm assuming we would take Atomic Theory and Electronics are our free techs with ToE.

We have 9 turns left on our Golden Age. I will keep us at 4 turn research as long as I can, with only a dribble left over to learn on Sci Methods.

Now just to find time to play the game when Grandma isn't around! :run:

Turns played and I think we did well. I'll post the turn log, screenshots and notes tomorrow.

0 (Preflight) 0950 AD

Nothing to do but hit enter.
Universal Suffrage is the only Wonder we can build at the moment, 800 shields. Berlin is 21 turns away from building it; 5 turns away from a factory. Factory first, then a wonder.

6 1010 AD

We have 4 Rubber connected to Berlin.

We sell Medicine to Egypt for Furs, Horses, WM, Military Tradtion, Democracy, 10 gpt and 1 of 1 gold.
We sell Medicine to Arabia for 104 gpt and 22 of 22 gold.
America's Gems are quite pricey. We pass.
At 90% science we learn Sci Method in 4 turns, +34 gpt. At 100% we get cranky cities.

Start sending workers and slaves towards Berlin.
Our larger cities suddenly get cranky; up the luxury slider to 20%; Sci Method still in 2.
Could be War Weariness. Don't know what else it could be. We've had that Army pillaging in Mongolia and Scandanavia for a long time.
[IBT]

Konigsberg factory -> vInf in 3.
Frankfurt vCav -> vCav in 2.
Allegheny bank -> factory in 18.

Good News
(took the screenshot but forgot to save it!)

*SwordsmanOne* and Horsa.
Horsa enters Stuttgart and becomes Horsa I.
Horsa I moves towards Cologne but does not quite make it.
We send our a vKnight to get rid of a wounded Beserk, the first Veteran unit to see any action in these turns (20 of 22).
Hire a clown in Centralia.
Begin to road the Coal of Babylon.

Leave some units for the next better player to move (or not).

We have two prebuilds in place; Leipzig and Berlin.
Leipzig is building a palace that costs 600, the same as Theory of Evolution. We 131 shields towards that, 15 turns to go.
Berlin is building Universal Suffrage, a prebuild for Hoover Dam; both cost 800. Berlin has 250 sheilds so far, 17 turns to go.

I did not spend any gold to investigate Elephantine for Egyptian progress on Magellan's Voyage. I wanted to keep our cash on hand to finance our research. Elephantine (8), Narjan (7) (Arabia) and Samarra (6) (Babylon) are also chasing this wonder. To investigate Elephantine is 150 gold, Narjan 106 and Samarra 88 gold. Magellan's Voyage cost 400 shields.

I sent four workers to Babylon to connect that coal. It will take them two more turns to finish that road. A red worker is nearby, so that will save us some turns.

Now that our GA is over we can peel off some workers for our railnet. The current unit builds are all up for grabs; I had forgotten about making workers until the turnset was done.

We got 2 MGLs our of 17 Elite victories.

We can build a Military Academy and The Pentagon.

As you can see, a fairly calm set of turns, with only a few Mongol and Viking interruptions. :D

In 15 turns, we could possibly research 2 or even 3 techs, rather than hoard cash. We could get the Corporation and Steel and possibly Refining while we wait for the ToE to finish. Just a thought... Also, bring the pillaging army home and make peace, that should eliminate the WW. We can research and prepare for having Panzers to pulverize our pathetic foes. Panzer vs Pikes or Muskets... yummy!

The Army is busy pillaging some luxury that the Vikings have near(ish) to our border, NW of Stuttgart. Spices or Incense; I don't recall which.

Stopping the WW seems good; more funds we can funnel into research.

At the time I dropped research to 0% I had not really examined how long it would take to build the ToE in Leipzig. I didn't think it would be so far out; I expected it to be 5 to 6 turns (I don't why; I must have figured we were still in our GA! :crazyeye:)

So, yes 15 turns does seem a bit excessive for one geek research given our goals. We should still be able to get decent gpt from somebody for our techs and that may be all we need for a while. Uh, once the railnet is up, don't we get an extra commerce thingee for each tile that is railed? If so, that will help our learning speed to increase, also.

Can't believe I didn't post this earlier:

'Fraid not, CB; you get extra food, and extra shields, but no extra commerce.

Of course, the extra food allows more specialists, so there is an indirect increase in commerce.

@CB - if i remember right, this was the case in civ1.

I'm about halfway done in Rod01, so I can realistically predict I can start this Wednesday or so. Sorry it has been so long, I'm SG-swamped right now, though it is getting a little easier, we are between SGFNs and the Rat series is on hold. Still no time for XOTMs right now.

Play when you get the chance. No need to rush another SG for this one.

Man, there is a whole bunch of RL going on right now. It's a nasty disease. We gotta find a way to stop it.

Everyone talks about the big blue room with the white, fluffy things up near the top of the ceiling that move on their own, but the climate controls don't work so well and the lighting keeps changing!

Come back when you can, ThinkTank.

Hi Bob. I'm sorta kinda trying to relearn the tricks of the trade. I'd like to try a set, but can't do it until after Tuesday next week (got a wake and a football game to go to). I could prolly do some prelim tomorrow (and ask lots of questions, sorry I'm a dumbass at times  )

Anyway, can I have a slot in the roster?

P.S. Whomp has no hair and is old. :crazyeye:

Edit: TheOverseer714
apology for stepping on your toes. If Bob approves, I'd like to go after you.

Edit2:
take out mongols and vikings. switch the palace build to TOE. Need cannons. start a prebuild for Hoover Dam. need more workers. first take, assuming Bob lets me in.

No problem with me, welcome aboard! I will probably get my turnset done over the next couple of days, get some more progress made. We are rapidly headed towards our time of action, where we can let the panzers roll. I think we're in good shape, once we get operation coal breeze running and get the rails built. I think a short break from SGs will be good for me. Emphasize the short.

Not a problem for a former KISSer.

I have finished my turn-set. Nothing really good or bad happened, though on the good side, I got another leader, who became an empty army and our TOE build completes in 4 turns, so we can finish Steel in 2 turns and have 2 turns of no science to make a bundle. Other pre-builds would be the US which will become Hoover Dam, and Palace in Cologne, which can be either Magellans or the Pentagon. Bad news, I gifted Babylon up, they got Nationalism, so I gave them Steam and they still have no harbor on Coal Island, so no railing can occur for us. Here is the turn-log:
Spoiler :
