CCTP Tech Tree Development & Discussion

Costs look good, going with tier and era seems like the best option.

Yeah that error comes about because the basic setup page wants to load before the player has actually chosen the map to play on, it doesn't effect anything though as the page is refreshed fully when loaded so ATM it's just one of those ugly things lol. Will have to see about adding in some kind of condition to stop it :)

[737.385] InstalledPanel: Refreshing Mods
[737.385] InstalledPanel: GetModBrowserListings()
[750.442] File Error: CCTP Maps/CCTPMapManager.lua
[750.442] Runtime Error: Error loading CCTP Maps/CCTPMapManager.lua.

What about this? Think its cause due to some changes I have made to rebalance science. Prevents you getting past "Community Call to Power map Pack" part.

Edit:
Nevermind, tracked it down, blooming buggy game is loading my Testmod up even though its unchecked....!!! (due to having cctp modinfo file in it)

I had V3 working. I installed V4 over V3 and all the strings are garbled.
The Version number is still called V3, with text like TXT_KEY_CCTP_TITLE throughout.
Will try reinstall

If i install everything from V4 except the .modinfo file, it works fine. When i install the .modinfo file, the text breaks. So the problem is in either the .modinfo file itself, or a new file it is referenceing for the first time.

Urm v4? we have no version 4...

Clear all mods from mod folder, sounds like you have a modinfo conflict.

EDIT:

OH!! You mean v4 of the in testing tech costs! You need to install this OVER 3.95, not in a mod of its own.

Do you think I should remove those icons at the top corner of each tech category? The swordsman icon.

Or can someone think of an actual useful use for it?

I'm resurrecting this old thread to propose a new, more realistic system of tech organization.

In each tech tree, there should be a base tech and then a multitude of "applied" techs that build around it.

Personally, I preferred the old system you had for techs. The 5 branches for Economics, Engineering, Social, Science, and Military. It seems much more appropriate than things like Geocentrism and Medieval University, not to mention it's much easier to navigate.

I like the latter system, as in the former system the links between techs were harder to see. Now each tech tree is self-contained, so that there aren't as many surprises when you want to research a new tech. Also, the new names represent the emergence of new technologies in an era, and I like that feature.

They are self contained trees, each of the 3 trees per Era are Indivudual of each other, the only time you will see a cross over is for Era linking, as 3335d says, how can they be hard to navigate? The old system you might have to swap in and out of 2-3 trees to get a proper picture.
