With CVI announcement I proudly announce in advance my deity challenges to establish optimal play for fastest finishes times (so no roleplaying, fooling around, etc.)
However I think participation should be high enough to have two different challenges
consentient, myself, and I am sure a few others need this CDG series to at least last until the Mac version ships!
I really hope Acken claims one of these in the future, I can't wait to see how others fare when confronted with Deity (or DemiGod for that matter)...I just cannot go back to playing the unmodded game. It feels so lackluster to me. Not just the difficulty, it's everything.
Well...quite a lot to digest there, and quite a lot for me to share with you guys.
So, point #1: Re: More than one challenge series. Today, a number of separate trains of thought collided in the Grand Central of my mind. Since
a) I have been playing modded games almost exclusively since I finished the last CDG; and
b) the CDG maps that I didn't provide have been unmodded and there is no sign of this changing in the future; and
c) Civ 6 looks pretty crap to me on first glimpse; and
d) I've been playing on Windows (on my Mac, more on that later); and, most importantly,
e) the mod I've mainly been using is the
NQ mod (designed for MP but excellent on SP)...
...I've decided to start another challenge series, with the first map to be released in the next few days (calm yourself Grendel

)
I hope that no one will see this as a rival to the CDG, and I hope that many of you will take the time to play both. I myself will certainly play many CDG maps if I like them. But I want to start this new series with the NQ mod for the above reasons, and because it adds so many completely new dimensions to the game. I've communicated with the mod's maker and have his blessing and his support.
Among other benefits too innumerable to mention all of them, Patronage and Exploration have become really interesting, powerful and worth exploring. When combined with the NQ maps made by Hellblazer, the games are just totally awesome, IMO. So I second YCJ's sentiments about the unmodded game. Hard to find a comparably enjoyable game.
The games I've played on NQ mod SP are also quite a bit harder, and therefore more challenging in the original sense of the Deity challenge concept.
So, point #2: About a series based on ModAcken... I would also like to see this, and I think he will start one eventually, but he has been fairly busy in his personal life for a while, as I gather it.
And point #3: Mac players.

Windows 10 can be installed on a mac and it only costs about $150ish max. Dual boot!
This. I don't know why I didn't think to try it before, actually. Civ 5 runs more smoothly, overheats far less (no crashes so far), and gives access to far more extensive modding. So I'm gonna be playing on Windows all the time from now on.
One more thing though. There are ways of getting Windows onto a Mac that don't involve spending $150. I'm neither endorsing these methods or telling anyone how to do it, but a resourceful person might very well work them out for themselves once they know it's possible.
So, once again, please don't see this new series as a rival or a snub to the people who took over the CDG when I left it. It might have been 'my baby' once, but I gave that baby away, and my respect goes to the people who
continued it brought it up.
My aim with the new series is singular: to provide truly challenging maps in the open style of the DCL, to be played with the NQ mod which breathes new life into a 6 year old game.
