I was wondering if anybody knows of a list of any celebrities who play civ? I have heard of some, but I am not sure. One that I have heard is Will Smith, though I could not find any confirmation or where I originally heard it (may have been on these boards). In any case, I figured it could be a good topic for discussion! (and it would be cool if Polycast could get some of them as guests;))

If Polycast had a celebrity guest on, then every future live episode would be overrun with trolls.

Me! TMIT is kind famous on youtube. But not any really famous people that I know of.

After listening to the lyrics of "Viva la Vida", I'm convinced that Chris Martin is a Civ player. Somehow he finds the time to play a few turns in between sleeping with Gwyneth Paltrow and rolling around in obscene amounts of money.

Well, outside of Sid Meier, I can't say that I have heard of any of the other people. Of course, Sid is a gimme, as well as any "famous" people already in the community. Just some background, I started this discussion because I was searching around the web for stuff about Dungeons and Dragons, and I found a bunch of lists and discussions about celebs who play DnD. So, I was wondering what famous people are out there that play Civilization. I am sure that there are some. And like I said earlier, I remember something about it before (don't know if it was another discussion thread... here or elsewhere, Polycast, or an article), but I couldn't find it. Anyway, any more input? Maybe somebody remembers the original source?

Pretty sure Kim Jong Il plays Civilization.

Al Gore.

Where do you think he got the idea of the worldwide tax that he called Global Warming? :mischief:

Although I recon that the level of brains needed to play this game is, well, perhaps a little limited in some skull coordinates...

anyways...

Do you reckon Leonard Nimoy has had a go at the game?

Oh, I'm sure Al Gore could beat settler if he put in all of his effort and managed to find the "world builder" button. At least some of the time. Maybe.

Levon Aronian a top 10 chess grandmaster plays civ 4 :) . I talked to him on the Internet Chess Club and he said he plays on monarch and loves slavery :king:

Bernard Werber (the most sucessful French writer) play civ.

In fact usually he writes a book a year. Few years ago none came out for 2 years and when a journalist asked him why he said he played too much Civilization...

One of his trilogy books is just a big civilization game. The story of a dead guy who goes to a school for future Gods in heaven. there are 100 people (Lots of them are famous dead people like Ghandi, Einstein, etc) playing on a simulated earth where the winner will be the God of the next created planet...

Can he play Civ blindfolded against multiple opponents simultaneously?:crazyeye:

Pretty sure Kim Jong Il plays Civilization.
It must be hard for him. All the other civs closing their borders with him, and denying trade...

On the other hand, I suppose it's the only way he'll ever see any land outside of N. Korea. The globe view must be amazing for him. There's other countries in the world! :D

On topic. I don't think that Sela Ward plays, but her stunt double does. :p

Civ demands different abilities than chess, similar to but less extreme than the difference between playing chess and say rugby.

And some of these "celebrities" are a stretch, others are less so.

I am *not* a celebrity, though it's a funny thought that more people know my handle than my real name by a ridiculously wide margin. TMIT celebrity status is such a stretch that if you managed it you might create a bridge to the moon :crazyeye:.

I dunno about that Philip.

I ran into a fellow in the gym last week who played Civ, and was hopelessly trying to score points with me. We were talking about it as we jogged on the treadmills, going nowhere. He asked me if I knew about CFC, and I said that I knew of it (not telling him who I am here), and he told me if I wanted to improve my game, I should look at the tips and videos from this TMIT guy. "Pretty good tips." He said to me.

So, you're even famous way up in the Great White North, Phil, and it isn't too far to the moon from here. :p

Apologies to the treadmill fellow, if you're reading this. I'm still not who you thought I was, I'm just little ol' Lemon. ;)
