CFC Pick'em Funtimes 2017-2018

Birds are actually 2-5 against the Squawks going back to 2002. That is as far back as that stadium goes, but they are 2-2 there even though they haven't won since Century Link got naming rights. They are 0-3 in Lincoln Financial. The Squawks haven't lost in Philly since Veteran's Stadium.

So the history actually says the Eagles odds are better facing Sea on the road... interesting.

Fly Eagles Fly...on the road... to victory...

Yeah, fat load of good that did them.

Sorry, did you say something? I can't hear under all this screaming of angry Seahawk fans.

I was wrong. The Eagles lost... I fell asleep during the game so I can't say what role the 12th man played, if any, but I guessed wrong... Now... since we are calling folks out for wrong predictions... sauce, meet goose:
Andy Reid is a top 5 coach. Honestly, even now I wouldn't put him out of a ring at some point.
Sorry, did you say something? I can't hear under all this screaming of angry Chiefs fans. Your "Top 5 coach" has lost 6 of the last 7...:lmao:
Discuss.

How about his overall record rather than just one season? How about Mahomes waiting in the wings?

At least Andy Reid has shown up in the playoffs that many times. How many coaches can say that?

That's just some draft profile. The general consensus is he's more like Brett Favre.

The problem with using playoff won/lost records is that it penalizes a coach that gets a team to the playoffs even if the team really lacks the talent to get there, and those are objectively the best coaches.

Donovan McNabb was a great quarterback...and through his entire career the Eagles provided him with an endlessly changing cast of mediocrity at all the skill positions around him. If he had one really good receiver, the rest outright sucked and they had no runner. If they got him a good back they provided no receivers at all. Sometimes they provided some opportunity to spread the ball around...to a bunch of average joes. Yet the Eagles made the playoffs year after year after year under Andy Reid. Could Jon Gruden have done that? Bill Cowher? Could <name your favorite 'big game winning' coach>?

Then there's Marty Shottenheimer. Fired because his team lost a playoff game at home and ruined their big chance. Home field throughout the playoffs! This is it boys! Laid an egg. Marty just can't win the big one. But the only reason they had home field advantage in the first place is because Shottenheimer took talent that definitely would be expected to post a winning record but really not do much more...and went 14-2. Yeah, fire that guy. Team went straight back to being a 9/7, maybe 10/6 'contender' and still never won anything big. Great move Chargers.

It also penalizes you for getting a bye. If you got a bye and lost in the conference championship game, too bad, you went 1-1. He was 10-9 with the Eagles in the playoffs. They went to 5 straight NFC Championship games and lost 4. His teams got his team to 5 consecutive conference championship games. How many coaches have done that?

Yeah I'm being too hard on Reid, but again, like I said in the reg season thread, the Chiefs should count themselves fortunate to have him and they'd be dumb to let him go. That being said, Jim Harbaugh went to 3 consecutive conference championships in his brief tenure and I know that Tim for one isn't sold on the idea that he was such a great coach.

So anyway why are the Chiefs imploding guys? It's gotta be somebody's fault, so if its not Alex Smith or Andy Reid, who?

To a great extent the Chiefs are living up to expectations. The 5-0 start got everyone way over-excited, but looking at the team before the season started would 6-6 at this point have been all that big a surprise? At that time all anyone would say is: Quarterback-better than average. Running back-rookie. Receivers-dubious except the star tight end. Defense-strong but thin, so subject to critical injuries.

Their path to 6-6 is making them look bad. The Chargers path to 6-6 has everyone in a tizzy for them. They are both six and six.
