Somehow playing as pyro is tricky itself where you have to get close enough to your enemy to flame them and still give them the afterburn.

It's ridiculous and preposterous.
That's cos you don't know how to play with the backburner, or don't want to put in the effort to ambush people from behind. Also, the regular flamethrower is better than the backburner. Random crits > 100% crits in the back if you can do it right, especially since you get an air compression blast.
Yep, always has been and always will be the right way to do things.Ambush is the way to go as pyro. Sneak in behind the enemy and get guaranteed crits while taking minimal damage to yourself in as little time as possible.
Well, yeah, each class has disadvantages in certain areas or circumstances. Nobody's going to pretend that the pyro is a perfect multirole class to play. Too, even in wide open areas pyros can get advantages...there's more room to maneuver, so if you're adept enough you can use other distractions (like an attack by your teammates, for example) to attract attention long enough to permit a rear assault by you.The problem with ambushing is that there are lots of areas on maps where it doesn't work that well. It can be a bit conditional.
Looking at these screenshots... Did you guys choose your team (so that you'd be with other CFC members' team)? I dunno, I always let the game throw me in a team (auto select team). Maybe that's why I always got put in the team with nobody I knew.

Backburners are killer, especially if you're on D and maneuver behind a gaggle of attacking players...instant death. Playing pyro+backburner is like playing spy, really, except you don't get the benefit of cloaking and disguising.
Scout is a counter to demomen actually, I hate demos too.
