I don't think Bigfoot really posts that much anymore. Might be worth getting a mod to update the OP, or have someone more willing to keep it updated start a new thread?

I'd be willing to do that on Thursday.

I don't have the time, but if one of you two, or anyone, desires to do so, then PM me your changes and I'll edit it in. If someone wants the job full time, then let me know and I'll see about switching the ownership of the OP post to that person.

Alright, so my Steam account was disabled on December 3rd. I sent a report to Steam Support, but I haven't heard back yet. However, I think it's because when I was hacked in early November, that hacker used my account to send phishing links to a bunch of my friends. HOPEFULLY, the account was temporarily disabled as I recovered my account that very same day and nothing else came up in that time period.

...I have a sinking feeling I might have been permanently banned however, although I might be able to regain all my purchases at the very least.

EDIT: Well, Steam Support just got back to me. I just need to dig out all of my purchases information and scans of my retail CD-Keys.

Steam has no phone number because Steam is not a company. Valve on the other hand does-- 425-889-9642

Even if VALVe had a phone support line, the wait times would probably be so long everyone would just complain anyways. And its not hard to figure out that Steam isn't a company, it takes like 1 second of scrolling or a google search.

I think you overrate average joe. You just have to look here on this very forum at how many people ask questions before using google. And yeah a lot of people call Blizzard but they still have the service.

The only acceptable thing is: within Steam, when you click on support, you have a phone number to call Steam customer service in addition to the e-mail system. Anything else requiring figuring out that Steam is held by valve, or requiring a search engine, is poor service, no matter how easy it is to find the information. They should make your life as easy as possible, not doing it like that seems like they don't actually want to be called, and while we all know that they indeed don't want to be called, when you're in business, you can't just act like that.

People are dumb. This is an underlying fact of human nature (with dumb standing in for a number of different reasons).

VALVe isn't Blizzard.

I don't have a landline, nor access to do one (I'd have to have it installed, as I use my landlord's cable internet and TV and they don't want their tennant using their landline), I'd much rather search around to fix a problem then wait on hold for 20+ minutes on customer support, probably for a problem I can find and fix in that time.

I agree and I hate talking on the phone really. But in the case where I got mistakenly banned from using my Steam account into which I poured hundreds of dollars... I'd want a phone number and I'd sort of freak out if there wasn't one. Software problems are one thing, but account questions... hmm.

In order to obtain your hat for getting 5 (and soon 15) of the Treasure Hunt achievements you have to go to the Treasure Hunt page on the Steam store and click "Unlock hat". Its then added to your inventory and looks sweet.

Also apparently not many people have bothered to do that as I was the only one wearing it today on CnB :p
