In .30 Chalid was a Divine/Summoner restricted to the law and sun spheres, and he had to spend promotions to get the high end spells just like any other spellcaster.

Now, however, he starts with all the following right out of the gate:

Crown of Brilliance
Pillar of Flame (he could never even get this originally)
Cure disease (ditto)
Heal (ditto)

And he's strong, and gets really insane strength with a combination of sun mana and metal weapons, and starts with 2 moves, and can buy mobility/combat promotions right out of the gate without sacrificing early arcane beatdown power (actually the combat promos compliment it, since they affect spell damage)

He can slap a crown of brilliance on himself, have it do heavy damage to all nearby enemies at the beginning of your turns, and walk around doing additional arcane damage with pillar, or healing, while at the same time bonking heads with his uber strength, all while the crown blazes.

He's available reasonably early too. Religious law is probably easier to get than the old arcane lore.

Yeah, I'm having a lot of fun singlehandedly talking down Emperor AIs with this dude.

Yeah, also what happened with Hemah and Gibbon Goatia? Surely they're basically the same now?

Chalid also has revelation, level 2 empyrean spell (iirc). Between that and Crown of Brilliance hitting everything adjacent to him and hostile, he's virtually immune to stealth units.

Seems thematically fitting for the hero of a religion bringing light to the world.

My favorite strategy as the Malakim is simple now: Build Chalid Astrakhan. Smash everyone I do not like.

Edit: A bit more constructively - I feel a simple change to Affinity (Sun) : 1 instead of Affinity (Sun) : 2 would be significant in bringing his power level in line with the other religious heroes.
