Sounds cool to me, can imagine myself trying to build this wonder pretty much every game when I'm not spiritual.
Does anybody yet know what tech unlocks it and if it obsoletes?
Does it do anything for a Spiritual civ?

It will presumalby grant culture and great person points - engineer probably, maybe merchant.

It will probably be an industrial or modern age wonder. Cristo Redentor was not completed until the 1930s.

No way it'd generate a Merchant, if it's not an Engineer then it's more likely to be an Artist (damn, please, no more GA generators! )

I can see the posts now: "Stupid Gandhi built Cristo Redentor!"

Well, he could do that to deny it to other civs!

Since it's a "religious" wonder, I could see it granting great prophet points. Of course, great prophets late in the game aren't exactly a useful bunch, so maybe they will go for merchants.

The way it's looking, Spiritual Civs have no reason to build it.

Unless... they seek denial: maybe the AI will be smart enough to do that, in which case non-Spiritual Civs will have to rip it out of the AI's cold dead claws... or something like that :p ;)

In any case, I'm looking forward to it as a goal for any non-Spiritual Civs I like to play!

It could be viewed as a slight nerf of spiritual, which is arguably the strongest civic.

'No anarchy' is most powerful early game with warlords, the civics being more set in place late game , but with the new features, it could be that no anarchy will be powerful late game too - think State property/Free trade/Mercantilism manipulation of corporations.

Is no anarchy better on different speeds, like Marathon?

Probably. Changing just one civic costs two turns, I believe, but everything else is similarly scaled up so I'm not sure if it makes a big difference.

I think I found a way to make Christo Redentor useful for Spiritual leaders. I think Spiritual leaders who have the Christo Redentor should be able to change civics whenever they want and ignore the 5 turn minimum. This would at least make the wonder somewhat useful for Spiritual leaders.

By the way, I predict it will generate great merchant points. There seems to be a definite lack of great merchant wonders, and with the new emphasis on the late game economic civics, I think they'll add a couple great merchant wonders.

Why do people want to make Christo Redentor useful to Spiritual civs? It sounds fine the way it is.

If you are playing Spiritual civ it sounds like the best course of action is to not build it or build it to deny it from others.

Because as far as I know, it's the only wonder that is useless for a particular trait.

I agree with Virulent.

I never build Stonehenge when I play as creative. I also won't build the Great Lighthouse or the Colossus if I don't have many coastal cities. I won't build Angkor Wat if I'm not persuing priest specialists. There are only a handful of universally useful wonders - the Great Library, the Oracle, the Taj Mahal, possibly the Statue of Zeus. Why must Cristo Redentor be on this list?

GP points are still GP points and it'll probably give a nice amount of culture.

...if we are to search for positive aspects, as minimal as they may be.

Here in Rio, the Cristo Redentor is hardly ever referred to as a religious symbol, but rather as a beautiful view. Added to that, Prophets in late game are the less useful and common kind of GP.

No Anarchy is a nice idea..

On marathon, it also depends upon the size of your empire for how long a civic change takes. Changing 2 or 3 in one go, especially if you have worries about a beligerent neighbour, can be a very worrying 5-10 turns, as if you are invaded, you have to go with what you have at the time.

Well, if Firaxis is that desperate for some ideas for effects of World Wonders, I thought of some other 'original' effects of World Wonders that Firaxis could include.

1. All melee and gunpowder units start with Combat I
2. All archer and gunpowder units start with Drill I and City Garrison I
3. Units gain promotions 1/4 faster than non-charismatic Civs
4. You can build wonders 50% faster (except for Industrious)
5. Each tile with 2 or more :commerce: receives an additional 1 :commerce: (except for Financial)

I think I could think of a few more :mischief:

5. is partially done with Colossus
4. is a National Wonder, called IronWorks
1+2. is called the Pentagon

In any case, in the Civil War thread there is speculation that a Civic switch would be an excellent trigger for Civil War... perhaps Spiritual Civs have a 50% reduction in Civil War triggered by Civic switches, and C.R. also gives No Anarchy and a 50% reduction in Civil War triggered... Meaning it would be GREAT for a Spiritual Civ
