In 1220AD, Ashburnham wrote his landmark social essay on Japanatica's place in the world from his city estate in Immo. Two weeks after completing the work, he read it aloud in the busy Business District to a crowd of onlookers.

Treatise on Humanity

Fellow Citizens of this Great Nation of Japanatica,
I take great pleasure in using that title. For our nation truly is great. Our land is the jewel of the world, the envy of the lesser nations that surround us. To live in Japanatica is to live a life blessed by the Gods. From the bosum of our Motherland, the likes of Newton and Copernicus have sprung. Great leaders such as the mighty Tojo have lived and died for the honor of our blessed home. Commerce spreads across our nation like a blanket of plenty. Our armies are second-to-none and triumph wherever they are sent. And, even as I speak, the great minds of Japanatica are devising new, improved modes of power that our ancesters never could have dreamed of. Truly, our land is great. I can say with a whole heart that I am proud to live in Japanatica.
However, all is not right in our nation. Rightful citizens of neighboring nations are held as slaves, forced to work in Japanatica lands, forever denied to see their homeland. Our military forces, so triumphant in combat, have turned to slaughter; butchering a beaten people far after they had lost the will to fight. Our land has been under the yoke of Monarchy for generations, but now the people have begun chaffing under that yoke. Many call for a change. A fairer, more equal society where all can have a say in decisions, and all can benefit. I can say that I love Japanatica, but few in other lands can. Our nation is looked upon with envy, yes, but also with fear, apprehension, and even outright hatred. Truly, Japanatica has few, if any, friends in the world. Our nation has followed a doctrine of conquest, manipulation, and cruel determination that has left us powerful, but alone and uncaring.
Things must change. For one, we cannot continue to hold foreign-born captives against their will. We are not savages. Slavery is as barbaric as it is outdated. We must return this people to their rightful lands. If even one Japanatican citizen were being held by a foreign nation, we would be in an uproar; and rightfully so. Why then do we not value the needs of other nations equally? Return the captives, and disgard the bonds of slavery for bonds of friendship. We must befriend the rest of the world. A Japanatican traveling in foreign lands is held in suspicion and contempt. And rightfully so! What have we done to make other nations think well of us? Trample to weaker Iroqouis, long after they ceased being a threat? Butcher the Roman people and take their lands for our own? Rehashing all these foul deeds even makes me distrust Japanatica. We need to extend the hand of fellowship to our neighbors, and to those abroad. Let us return to the Iroqouis the lands rightfully theirs. There is no reason for us to occupy Salamanca, ancient capital of the Iroqouis and home of the mighty Pyramids. I must stress once again that we are not barbarians, we are Japanaticans! Let us conduct ourselves like gentlemen. And Let us forge bonds of friendship with our fellow civilizations, that we might take our place in the circle of nations, rather than sit outside and pit ourselves against them all.
There is also talk of a change in government. We must wholeheartedly support it! For too long have we been stiffled by Monarchy. The time has come for Japanatica to bring about a more effective form of government, one that serves the people. We can look at the "Republics" set up in France, Zulu, and elsewhere. They give power to anyone able to be elected by the people. Surely, that would be a better system than the totalitarian rule we live under now. Or, perhaps, our future lies in something even more extreme:a Democracy. We could allow every man in our great nation to have an equal say in the government. Admittedly, the exact workings of a Democracy have yet to be determined, but it is indeed an excellent idea, one worthy of research. By allowing more people a say in our government, we would surely reduce corruption, increase commerce, and increase overall productivity as well. What possible reason could there be for ignoring such sterling benefits? We must unlock the secrets of such a Democracy as soon as possible.
Comrades, we have entered a new age. All around us we can see the change. New buildings are being built. New styles of clothing and etiquette are appearing. New technology is emerging everyday. The future is indeed bright. But, why then do we cling to the brutal Medieval traditions of the past? The old ways are dead! It is time for Japanatica to start anew, take a new path, serve all of mankind not just ourselves! Let us go forth into the world with an eye for every man's rights. Let us change our nation for the better. Let us become a Japanatica that we can be proud of once again!

After the oration, pamphlets of the essay were copied and sent to all the major cities of Japanatica. Gossip turned to talk turned to discussion and debate all across the nation. The message was clear: Change is in the air!

THE MARILYN DOCTRINE

... At the proposal of the Russian Imperial Government, made through the minister of the Emperor residing here, a full power and instructions have been transmitted to the minister of Japanatica at St. Petersburg to arrange by amicable negotiation the respective rights and interests of the two nations on the oceans separating our two continents. A similar proposal had been made by His Imperial Majesty to the Government of China, which has likewise been acceded to. The Government of Japanatica has been desirous by this friendly proceeding of manifesting the great value which they have invariably attached to the friendship of the Emperor and their solicitude to cultivate the best understanding with his Government. In the discussions to which this interest has given rise and in the arrangements by which they may terminate the occasion has been judged proper for asserting, as a principle in which the rights and interests of Japanatica are involved, that the Japanatican continent, by the free and independent condition which they have assumed and maintain, are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any Atarashikan powers....

It was stated at the commencement of the last session that a great effort was then making in America and Aztecal to improve the condition of the people of those countries, and that it appeared to be conducted with extraordinary moderation. It need scarcely be remarked that the result has been so far very different from what was then anticipated. Of events in that quarter of the globe, with which we have so much intercourse and from which we derive our origin, we have always been anxious and interested spectators. The citizens of Japanatica cherish sentiments the most friendly in favor of the liberty and happiness of their fellowmen on that side of the Shorai Ocean. In the wars of the Atarashikan powers in matters relating to themselves we have never taken any part, nor does it comport with our policy so to do. It is only when our rights are invaded or seriously menaced that we resent injuries or make preparation for our defense. With the movements in this hemisphere we are of necessity more immediately connected, and by causes which must be obvious to all enlightened and impartial observers. The political system of the Chinese-Russian allied powers is essentially different in this respect from that of Japanatica. This difference proceeds from that which exists in their respective Governments; and to the defense of our own, which has been achieved by the loss of so much blood and treasure, and matured by the wisdom of their most enlightened citizens, and under which we have enjoyed unexampled felicity, this whole nation is devoted. We owe it, therefore, to candor and to the amicable relations existing between Japanatica and those powers to declare that we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety. With the existing colonies or dependencies of any Atarashkan power we have not interfered and shall not interfere. But with the Governments who have declared their independence and maintained it, and whose independence we have, on great consideration and on just principles, acknowledged, we could not view any interposition for the purpose of oppressing them, or controlling in any other manner their destiny, by any Atarashikan power in any other light than as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward Japanatica. In the war between those new Governments and China we declared our neutrality at the time of their recognition, and to this we have adhered, and shall continue to adhere, provided no change shall occur which, in the judgment of the competent authorities of this Government, shall make a corresponding change on the part of Japanatica indispensable to their security.

The late events in China and Russial show that Atarashika is still unsettled. Of this important fact no stronger proof can be adduced than that the allied powers should have thought it proper, on any principle satisfactory to themselves, to have interposed by force in the internal concerns of China. To what extent such interposition may be carried, on the same principle, is a question in which all independent powers whose governments differ from theirs are interested, even those most remote, and surely none more so than Japanatica. Our policy in regard to Atarashika, which was adopted at an early stage of the wars which have so long agitated that quarter of the globe, nevertheless remains the same, which is, not to interfere in the internal concerns of any of its powers; to consider the government de facto as the legitimate government for us; to cultivate friendly relations with it, and to preserve those relations by a frank, firm, and manly policy, meeting in all instances the just claims of every power, submitting to injuries from none. But in regard to those continents circumstances are eminently and conspicuously different. It is impossible that the allied powers should extend their political system to any portion of either continent without endangering our peace and happiness; nor can anyone believe that our southern brethren, if left to themselves, would adopt it of their own accord. It is equally impossible, therefore, that we should behold such interposition in any form with indifference. If we look to the comparative strength and resources of China and those new Governments, and their distance from each other, it must be obvious that she can never subdue them. It is still the true policy of Japanatica to leave the parties to themselves, in the hope that other powers will pursue the same course....

A COMMENTARY ON ASHBURNHAMS TREATISE

In 1221 AD, Provolution bui wrote his historical document in response to Citizen Ashburnhams "landmark social essay on Japanatica's place in the world " from the Military Command and Operations Center at the military classified and controlled Kagemusha, also know from its many casinos and a corruption ratio of a staggering 95 %. Three weeks after completing the document, he presented it at the University in Zojoji to a seminar of political science and world history students, with many dignitaries like Minister General Cyc, Grand Admiral Ali, General Cinvanator, and Admirals Classifed Hero and Chieftess, as well as leading students from the Bones and Skulls Society at the University.

He commented clearly every post

Fellow Citizens of this Great Nation of Japanatica,
I take great pleasure in using that title. For our nation truly is great. Our land is the jewel of the world, the envy of the lesser nations that surround us. To live in Japanatica is to live a life blessed by the Gods. From the bosum of our Motherland, the likes of Newton and Copernicus have sprung.

Japanatica IS truly the de facto superpower of the known world, and that is our manifest destiny. With all of the important strategic resources thanks to our doctrines of national defense interest plans and our focus on controlling iron on the continent. Sulphur was not even an issue, as our extraordinarily gifted Samurais can slice through the most beliggerent Roman or Iroqi Flesh with handcrafted ironswords that has been pressed 500-1000 times each, and van meet any musketeer or pikeman any day in the field.

Regarding the nefarious competition of the intellectual communites in Zojoji and Odawara about the location of the Forbidden Palace, is actually one of historic interest. Both times they lost a vision, Zojoji once dreamt about being the Navigational Beacon for all of Japanatica with her plan of building the Great Lighthouse, also referred to by the opposition of the Embryons, some of which referred to it as a Giant Spotlight. So the dream was crushed, and it would take several hundred years before Zojojis naval aspirations again could be realized, with the present Magellans Voyage being planned. However, in the meantime Zojoji managed to build Japanaticas first powerful university, "The Copernican Revisionary Academy of Zojojian Yale" (CRAZY).

A similar weird development took place for Odawara, which was on the new coast side of Japanatica, the Eastern Frontier, where we fought the Romans and the Iroquois with their mounted riders. Odawara as known for it progressive culture, controversial use of drugs in academic circles, like Cheech and Chong, governors of Edo. Odawara had for centuries, almost like Zojoji, fought for becoming the second national center of Japanatica, building the indeed Forbidden Palace. The Second Capital has now been named The Forbidden Palace, not because of it being closed to visitors, but to the fact that the democratic system of Japanatica made it a forbidden thing to build.
Like Culture Minister MOTH said, it was a can of worms, and a can of worms is forbidden, isn't it ? Anyways, another sabotage of that dream, gave Odawara also a University, namely "Strangely Thrilling Academy for Newtonian Foundation of Omissive Research and Development" (STANFORD).

The great deeds of General Tojo was a direct product of the controversial request of MSAV in its early fourth term to conclude the war with a critical last operation in the south, where General Tojos newly created Cavalry Army opened new opportunities for militaristic and religious Japanatica to develop major projects of BOTH militaristic AND spiritual nature. MSAV stands by that decision today, as it enabled the growth of the Japanatican Republic and a free choice on where to bring our glorious nation.

Our nation has followed a doctrine of conquest, manipulation, and cruel determination that has left us powerful, but alone and uncaring.

First of all, our doctrine of conquest, manipulation and cruel determination was a product of our legacy of despotism and monarchy, from the Tyranny of Daveshack to the Autocratic Imperial Regime of Empress Chieftess, but it was needed, and it is a big part of who we are, where we come from and what we are about to become. But I agree with Ashburnham, we need to befriend our neighbors again, BEFORE we once again strike for strategic resources we do not need. Anything else would be both unethical and not a wise decision.
We should also free the workers, since they may sabotage our nations infrastructure, or even become terrorists. I thought of developing a new doctrine, The Great Matrimonic Act, in order to take care of our national security. It is unethical to keep these workers away fromt their peoples and homes, and they may one day rise against us (edit. maybe a patch? :) )..
We should liberate them at once as a precondition for Japanaticas own democracy or republic.

I agree with the foreign workers, give them a months salary and send them home to their rightful lands. But also, we need to have a national referendum on the return of Iroqouis lands. However, I have a plan B for Iroq. What about
creating them some jobs, we can send in Geze from Imperial Oil and help them drill oil for us, so we can send them food and medicines. Or we can let them build tax exempt casinos. Kagemusha Casino Coporation, subsidiary of
billion enterprise "Wallet-Burden", has already sent contractors into wartorn Iroq for building up casinos and to look for coal to fuel our railroad economy.
Some evil tongues says that the Iroqi war was a "Wag the dog" war created by need, conspiracy theorists they are.

Their mounted horsemen came suddenly over our border in the eleventh hour, and they massacred thousands of sheeps on the lucrative sheep farm Watanabe Tomoko Suntory, something they had planned for many years. Where was the intelligence? All our ministries had not coordinated their information, and MSAV had no idea of what FA was doing. We ARE militaristic and religious, that is our very personality, we cannot deny that. But the Iroqi, terrible people, they had Wigwams of Mass Seduction! What would I do for keeping some of heir squaws inside my tent so only I could see them? Or to have them carry water to me for that spring? Or to let me start a war when I see one of the other tribes canoes coming into my land? The problem with the
Iroqi, is that they are BOTH expansionist AND religious at once. They are incompetent soldiers, but the reproduce and migrate at an alarming rate, spreading and expanding their dangerous religion and culture.
I am glad we have sent peacekeeping forces to Iroq, so we can rebuild their country as a Democracy. I am also sorry about not finding any Wigwams of Mass Seduction, but at least we found Hiawatha hiding in a mound after his failed invasion, which we stopped and drove him back. Maybe we send him to an International tribunal to the old continent of Atarashika, to Washington D.C. , this worlds leading city for multilateralism and judicial principles.

Finally, free the workers, but keep Salamanca, in "Wallet-Burden Corporation" slang, we call it "Sale and Banca".

This exerpt is from an editorial that originally appeared in the Summer 1221 issue of Culture Ministry Monthly. Parts of General Provolution's "A Commentary" have been reproduced for comprehension.

...A typical military response to an issue that goes far beyond the realm of military interests. Reading between the lines, one can clearly see the greed and lust for conquest that drives the MSAV to this day. There are also suggestions of sexual inadequacy on the part of our First General ("tribe canoes" indeed), but that is a topic for another day.

As it stands now, Japanatica is at a crossroads. We are coming out of a hotly contentious election, where many of the offices were decided by two votes or less. We are also entering a new ere--an "Industrial" era. Now is not the time to perpetuate the barbaric ways of old. Now is the time to strike out in a fresh direction. A direction towards peace and cooperation with our fellow nations. The Iroqouis situation is a perfect example of that. Most people probably don't even remember that this started out as a defensive war. We were the injured party in the eyes of the world, and we had a chance to benefit from that situation. However, any vestige of pity we might have had was blown away when we sacked Salamanca. It was a glorious city once. The jewel of the southern coast. But to look at it now is to see only carnage and the ravages of war. Salamanca today is a wartorn city, riff with resistors and shattered houses. There was no humanitarian mission in going into Salamanca. And there was no obvious gain to Japanatica. The only reason we sent troops to die and kill in Salamanca was simple greed. General Provolution seems to enjoy deriding the "Embryonic" warhawks, but even he can thing of no good reason to go into Salamanca other than the desire to limitless conquest. Why then do we keep a city that we need nothing from and the Iroqouis need so dearly? The answer is simple: there is no reason. We must return Salamanca to its rightful owner as soon as possible, or risk plunging our modern nation back into the dark ages of bloody conquest.

I am glad that the MSAV sees the decency in allowing foreign workers to return to their homeland. This is indeed a good first step in restoring the honor of Japanatica, and taking our place alongside the nations of the world. However, it is only a start. Much more needs to be done, and I only hope that the people of Japanatica will have the courage and the insight to do it.

It looks like SD3 has a doctrine for workers, so look into that for your abolitionist campaign. I will back any reasonable decision with timeframes and tech benchmarks.

If we are returing the workers to there homelands entirely for moral reasons.
then i belive that some of the workers would prefer to be settled in our lands. for instance the Roman workers would be better off settled in rome (under our control) than northen france. and possiably the same with the iroquios.

I think any zulu of babylon workers should be sent home.
