This is a poll to see if anyone is interested in my city naming scheme. City name will be a Greek alphabet, followed by an original city name.

Examples:
First city built is named Alpha - Fanatica. Second could be Beta - River City.

Here's a list of the max number of cities 11, and corresponding letter.
1. Alpha
2. Beta
3. Gamma
4. Delta
5. Epsilon
6. Zeta
7. Eta
8. Theta
9. Iota
10. Kappa
11. Lamba

I think Governors should be able to name them, in line with the naming tradition.
A compromise could be the Greek letter as suffix.

Yes the Greek suffix would be for all cities, but they would still have an original name as usual.

IF it is a suffix (greek letter), I agree with the proposal, as it stands, it is a prefix.

I don't care for it. It's like naming our cities "One - Capital" and "Two - Orange Grove." I don't picture Babylonian citizens saying to each other "Let's vaction at Four - Hindville this summer!"

But how do we choose the city name part of it? I've not spotted it anywhere in the laws this time. Governors used to name Provinces not cities and with only 5 original cities to name (and potentially some more to rename) the citizen registry is not the best idea. I don't particularly like calling them alpha etc, but it would save some arguments.

I suggest the Governors to nominate a Greek sounding city with an approval poll.

I don't really have a preference either way.

At any rate, there is no majority so I'd say forget the suggestion.

I vote no. The Governers should have the power name the city completely in the way they want it, changeable with every governer if they wish.

I like this idea. Also makes it easier to spell names for cities that would otherwise be impossible to spell correctly.

Should be up to the governors, but as for new governors changing the existing name, I think the residents of that particular city should be able to override the new name by a 50/50 vote.

Good idea peter. We are a Democracy and not bureacratic.

yes, and they should also be able to secede and form a new nation declaring war on "old Fanatikos." :joke:

I like peter's idea too.

I like the names Alpha, Beta, Gamma etc. without the citizen-chosen suffix. With only 11 cities to name, let's leave the personal choices out of it altogether.

I really don't agree with the revolving name concept that would be beholden to the whim of each new governor. The proposal above (modified as suggested) is the way to go. It's as easy as A-B-G. :D

With so few cities to name, I can only see one way of doing it as being fair. Each Governor (Mayor) should open the floor for citizen ideas, tossing his/her idea into the list. Use whatever name gets the most support.

Clarification requested:
Are all 6 mayoral positions filled at all times? Or are elections held as cities are founded?

From my reading, they appear to be filled all times.

EDIT: I'm with DS, in case there was any confusion.

Personally I rather like this idea, with the possibility of letting the governor give a list of possible names from which the citizenry could choose.
