Civ 3 or Age of empires 2

yeah the thing i like most about AOE II is their campaigns.
I agree. That is what i like most about AoE games and AoM - the campaigns. I hate the multiplayer and that random map ... smthing. That is what makes this series cool. I played them several times. - learning history in a more fun way. :)

Civ III is good for when you want to sit down and play a game over days/weeks (depending on how much time you spend gaming). AoE II is good for those shorter moments - an average AoE II game against AI opponents for me can last about 1-2 hours.

Each is fun in their own way, and comparing a RTS to turn based is like comparing apples and oranges...

If I had to choose, it probably would be Civ III, though there is a lot of indecision in that choice. The simple reason being is that Civ III is more 'open ended' with game play, and there aren't any sort of "set in stone" rushing strategies used that dominate gameplay like in AoE and many other RTS games (IMO).

I love both games.
But you should buy Civ3 Complete (because it's complete) over Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings (it doesn't have the add-on). But Age of Empires should be on your "Buy list" - it's a great game series.

Uh AoE 2 has the conquerors expansion, its been out for quite a while... for 30 bucks you can get age of kings w/ the expansion. Yes do add it to your buy list, its a blast for multiplayer.

Uh no, AoE kicks the crap out of Civ3 for multiplayer. singleplayer go w/ a civ game (pick civ4... its better)

I own both AoE 2 and Civ and I play them both. I play AoE w/ people online sometimes, but I think I still play Civ more (especially since I got Civ4)

I didn't get Civ4 yet, but not sure it's worth the money.
Not only did I spend $50 on the special pre-order before it was released, I knew my old computer didn't meet the specs and spent about $1,800 for a new computer with a super graphics card and a 19" flat-panel monitor.

Well, to make a long story longer, it ran just fine on my new machine, but I became totally bored with the game after playing for a couple of weeks. It just never grabbed me the way Civ3 had. Some people like it...some don't.

I love my new computer, but I only play C3C now. :p

I know about that but in the first post it says Civ3Complete and AoE2. And since it says complete after civ3 and nothing after AoE2 i thought he meant Complete and Age of Kings.

ahh ok (10 chars)

AoE2 if you like micromanaging peasants

Civ4 if you like flashy graphics or if the smooth, crisp voice of Leonard Nimoy soothes your soul.

Civ3 if you plan on taking advantage of some of the good mods/scenarios here and don't play the god-awful epic game
