Civ 5 coming with an Earth Map?

I really like playing on the Earth map , because the terrain has so much more strategic value than the random landmasses created by a generator. I really wish they could make the random terrain generator mimic real landmass formation better.

I have never liked the "random" maps. There are never any straits, inland seas, few islands, and no cleaver places to plop a city to make a canal.

Then you're not playing with the right map settings.

They've had earth maps going back to Civ I. I'm sure they'll have one this time.

Earth Map will be Super Extra Premium DLC for $25. available exactly 3 days before release.

I think the best Random Maps were i Civ 1 and 2 if I recall. By Civ 4, they were very formulaic.

an earth map?, im not so bothered, never enjoyed it england was always soooooo tiny.

But what i am excited about is the new feature of being able to save a randomly generated map from the in-game menu, thats wicked.

they said in the closed demo something about mountain ranges shooting out from the coast (inland) im not really sure if thats realistic or not, but it does seem to be a bit leess of a "meh that'll do" attitude.

I like how mountains can be more of a "obstacle" now with the removal of diagonal crossing and I guess more emphasis on mountain ranges as apposed to stand alone mountains in the middle of grassland.

I don't think they need to include an Earth map. There will be a lot of fan made Earth maps online shortly after release anyway.

Civ III had a "replay previous map" option in the Main Menu. Making note of the seed number when you reloaded the map was effectively the same thing as saving the map.

There has been an Earth map in Civ from the beginning. I don't think they'll break that tradition for Civ5

it better. I know people say you aren't playing a true strategy game unless you play random.

But I prefer my civ experience to be more of a alternative history rather than a strategy game. So I do play Earth maps frequently. I don't know for sure, but I'd say about 50% of my games are some variant of the Earth map.

 I had to laugh at that too. I can almost see that happening.

cIV BTS Tectonics maps are much more realistic, it's the only type I've played since I got BTS.

Now OMG! time.

Where did you hear about the save random map feature!?!?!?!?!??! I need to see that source! That is AWESOME:)

I agree with you. Even on some of the most complex mapscripts, it didn't give you chokepoints and stuff. And earth2 (Or whatever one it is), which says manipulates earth's innate abilities, is just a slightly random Earth map.

I would love an Earth map, but only if it is absolutely enormous to a ludicrous extent, so that places like England can be represented accurately, and Sicily and Crete don't end up enormous.

I hope Earth makes a comeback. Random maps are enjoyable, but there's something special about launching invasions across the Alps, or sending your Settlers into the Fertile Crescent, that makes all the difference.

If they do include an earth map, I hopw its better than the one in civ 4. I prefer the GOOD ones, like the one in Rhyes.

In the closed demo you see a few menu's in the civ 5 game. When he goes to exit the game (menu, exit to windows) you also see the option "save map". I posted all the information from the three menus I got to see in the demo, "ingame menu, main menu, single player menu" in the Aricorch Thread.

That's because Rhye's map cheats. It enlarges Europe compared to the rest of the world. IMO this is better for gameplay and I prefer this type of map too.
