List in the features it requires Steam.

basic military units will have 2 movement instead of one. so other units (like mounted) will have to move farther so that all the walking guys with swords, spears, and muskets can't keep up with them. the question is, are all the movement points doubled, or do they all have 1 point added to them?

Why? Horses, over a day's march, are no faster than a man in good shape -- about 40 kilometers I think it was. Worse if the horse is carrying armor.

Most armies before motorized transport were limited to the speed of foot. Horses, horsemen and mounted infantry provided a tactical advantage; whether it was getting in close to the enemy before incoming arrow volleys decimated them, skirmishing, scouting, or flanking maneuvers. Horsemen, however, would either have to kill their mounts or keep a four or five remounts to be twice as fast as any decent, well trained foot soldiers, as daily travel is limited by the endurance of the horses and their riders.

Really? DLC for Civ? Really Firaxis?

...If this means paid for DLC, that's quite worrisome.
Starting to lose more hope for Civ5.

Then again, since Civ4 has an active modding community and is extremely easily moddable, it doesn't matter if the next installment sucks.

Yep.

Seriously, Firaxis. What the hell?

I agree, WTH?
Ah you know I decided I'll stop buying games that use the soulless dlc approach, but it seems I'd have to stop playing video games altogether...

That's it. I'm unsubscribing to this thread. :wallbash:

I had it with the entire Civ5 board and their claims that...
*one land based military unit per tile will ruin Civ5
*the hex grid will ruin Civ5
*religions being changed will ruin Civ5
*not having Spain/Poland/Italy/Sealand will ruin Civ5.
*not being Civ4 will ruin Civ5
*one tile culture expansion will ruin Civ5
*no roads over the entire map will ruin Civ5

I had hoped to find solace in this thread, and only have to check up on it when something new was announced. Now I'm done. The comments for the announcement of Civ5 on Steam are already full of the most over-reactionary, "my mommy doesn't love me anymore," rhetoric I've seen on CivFanatics. Bringing that stupidity to this thread is just finding more soapboxes to for the perpetually angry "Civ fans" to stand on.

Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish.

But what about our bet?
And btw in my case at least, it's not the changes or whatever that I have problems with... It's the DLC bs...

I would like to say at this time that I would be fine with this if I could get steam work.

As the situation stands however... GAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!:dubious::aargh:

This is most definitely a :spear: moment.

(sniff:() Goodbye cruel world. :suicide:

No, please stay. If you go away, their stupidity will win eventually. I agree all those complainers are pure boredom, but take a break and come back.

Civfanatics is a nice place, there are a lot of people who DON'T complain too and they can't wait to see what Civ 5 has in store. Go firaxis ! We love you.

Hey guys,

My first time posting in this thread so I'm sorry if I repeat anything that has already been answered:

With religions - when I play Civ4, I only see them as a source of extra revenue to fuel early expansion. I never really see them as an integral component of the game. Mods such as FfH2 gave them some more depth with specialty units and different bonuses. In LoR, they could produce unhappiness if you had multiple religions. Overall, the religions were great flavor, but were mainly used to generate discord between civs.

Espionage - From civ 1 to civ4, espionage has never really worked all that well. I remember in Civ 1 and 2 sending transport loads of diplomats into foreign lands and stealing all their technologies when I fell behind. In Civ 3 and Civ 4, espionage really became unmanageable and was not really worh the investment. If you were behind technologically, it was hard to invest in espionage points since it took so many points to steal a tech. Plus, defending against espionage was nearly impossible. Base game only allows you maybe 3 spies at one time. Mods have removed the hard cap. However, counterintelligence just did not seem to work well in stopping enemies spies. Espionage became an annoyance and I normally did custom games to shut it off.

The SOD (Stack of Doom) - When you get down to the basics of any game from Civ 1 to Civ 4, military might always seems to win the game. Even if you aren't doing Conquest/Domination victory, you weren't going to win space race unless you had enough army to defend yourself with. You had to have a huge military so that, if attacked, you could defend yourself. If your military was small, your neighbors arent so nice to you. The only small way to destroy a stack of doom was nukes, but that doesnt help you in the industrial age when you dont have them yet.

With SOD's, why dont they use a system similar to the defense MOD that comes with Civ 4 ? In that mod, if you had more than one unit on a tile, the strength of all units would decrease by 10% per unit in the stack. In essence, 10 units on a tile means that a unit in there would fight at the lowest strength if the stack was attacked. This to me would be better than simply hardcoding 1 unit per tile. We'll see how it works out with Civ 5. I'll reserve judgment when I buy the game when it releases.

Peace All!

Civ 3 espionage was the best! nice and abstract and very little micromanagement but it had a lot to be desired. I think espionage would work beutifully if they intergrated the cIV and civ3 systems. keep 3's abstractness and lack of micromanagement and add 4's espionage points and more cheaper options for espionage missions.

How does it tastes so deep in there I wonder?

^In conquests at least (I have only played the complete collection) it was just a screen at the top and you had to pay gold to do missions.

I only played vanilla and complete, but I don't remember any espionage, probably why I s***** so badly  +

No just a requirement for Bablyon
If they just sold it on steam they would go bankrupt in an hour because the majority of the people on civfanatics for sure and outside the CFC don't use steam.

Then again that is just what I would assume from reading the release info on the front page.

Thanks for nothing!

(just kidding)
still..
Can we please get a definite answer, bite, if you (since I'll bet you're the most informed) would please enlighten us?
