Civ 5 Design Challenge II - Mechanics

I feel a bit cheap following a Mali, Ghana and Kushan with another Mali. Oh well.

Mali Empire

Mansa Musa

UA: The Mines of Wangara
- Each mined luxury mined resource has a 0.2% multiplier effect on trade routes :trade: for Mali and 0.1% for another Civ. Working a Gold resource doubles the production of Great Merchants :c5greatperson:.

UU: Soninke Archer (replaces Crossbowman)
- Weaker than the Crossbowman it replaces (strength :c5strength: 11 and ranged strength :c5rangedstrength: 15), the Soninke Archer gains the Poisoned Arrows promotion. When it shoots an enemy, that enemy loses 20 hp if it moves on the next turn.

UB: Madrasah (replaces University)
- Each trade route :trade: coming into the city makes the Madrasah 5% cheaper to build (maximum 50%). Doesn't give a bonus for Jungle tiles but gives +2 science :c5science: for each trade route :trade: coming into the city and +2 gold :c5gold: for each trade route :trade: going out.

:c5influence: The Republic of Florence :c5influence:

UA: The House of Medici
Worked specialist slots and :trade: trade routes, internal and external, provide +3 :c5gold: gold for every :c5culture: cultural policy tree completed. No :c5unhappy: unhappiness from specialists.

UU: Great Banker
Replaces :c5greatperson: great merchant. Earned twice as quickly, and can enter enemy territory. Can spend :c5gold: gold to allow access to the unique units of other civilizations for purchase in addition to the other benefits of a :c5greatperson: great merchant. Considered part of the artist/musician/writer pool of :c5greatperson: GPP rather than the scientist/engineer pool.

UB: Signoria
Replaces bank. Unlocked at guilds. Normal attributes of a bank. In cities with a signoria, :c5gold: worked from specialist slots contributes to :c5greatperson: great person point accumulation of that specialist type. Cost of :c5gold: gold and :c5faith: faith purchasing in a city with a signoria is halved.

Meant to be a diplo civ or a domination civ; meant to pump out 5 or 6 bankers for timing pushes with, for example, longbows and impis, or camels and cho ku nos, by somehow grabbing these units very early, off of markets for example, and buying the uniques of strong medieval or Renaissance civs, or really any era, there's lots that could be combined here, the MP route. Alternatively could just send out external trade routes and work specialist slots and accumulate huge amounts of gold and buy cs, the SP route.

Ignore post, I posted in the wrong thread.

Hmmm, well

Republic of Genoa(Andrea Doria)

UA: Pax Argentarius
+1 :c5production: production towards buildings for each :c5greatperson: great person of the appropriate type born in the :c5capital: capital. :trade: Trade routes to and from civilizations you share a common enemy with yield +2 :c5gold: gold, and increase the generation of all :c5greatperson: great people by a percentage equal to their :c5gold: gold output.

UU: Banker
Replaces great merchant. May found a :c5puppet: puppet (colony with CiD) rather than a custom house. May also enter foreign territory without open borders. When stationed on a resource inside foreign territory, it may steal it, granting its yields to the :c5capital: capital and connecting it to your trade network. However, the other civilization will gain :c5gold: gold for each unit they have when you do so.

UB: Counting House
In addition to granting +1 :c5greatperson: great person point towards all great people for each one of its merchant specialists filled, it grants +33% :c5gold: gold, unlike the bank which it replaces. Furthermore, merchant specialists in the city will grant +1 :c5gold: gold for each friendly civilization currently in war, doubled if you signed a :c5strength: defensive pact.

I'll go with Keniisu's. And I said that in reference to Natan following up my Florence with a Genoa, but it's no big deal, I was just funning around.

Not many designs this time around.

oh, submission time is over already? Damn it. Got used to contests lasting a lot of time...

I suppose some users, namely me, SgtWolf, and Keniisu, are trying to organize more efficient time usage with these challenges. I'm hoping we can eventually get them all down to basically a flat week every round.

In fact, maybe we should start laying out the range of dates right from the challenge's introduction, like in the fourth challenge, the one Keniisu started.

I would like to totally object to this idea, we've always approached these challenges loosely since so many of us have lives outside of this and can't commit to short timescales. Its always been that way and the fact that a very small clique of new entrants is trying to hijack things is very weird. Chill out guys. If you want a speed challenge go create a new thread for it, we already have four different challenges.

I agree... I was going to submit a Venice design but I guess not... welp.

I think a really good idea is to have 5 designs at least before each voting period. If there are still not 5 designs after 1.5x the submission period, voting can start.

I say yes

My God guys! I post one comment and go to bed and all Hell breaks loose! *sigh* Let's go over this one part at a time.

Yeah sorry about that, actually why am I apologizing? inthesomeday was the one who started this. Anyway post your design if it is ready.

Yeah I guess we unofficially tried to get things running consistently and smoothly, which I like cos order!

In fact, maybe we should start laying out the range of dates right from the challenge's introduction, like in the fourth challenge, the one Keniisu started.

Yeah I don't actually agree with this, while I like order, I like free flowing and unplanned activities as well. Which this thread was, implementing this would break the spirit of this thread and cause too much pressure on everyone.

Wow wow hijack? That's escalating it a bit, all I did was put set dates when I was the week's host. I mean I like the how laid back this thread is, but I feel like it's a *little* to laid back sometimes. That's my opinion though.

Nah nah post your design since this was unexpected. As for your proposal, I like it. But what do you mean by 1.5x? Confusing me.

So can we still upload designs or nah guys?

Yeah if you have a design ready upload it, take it as compensation for the unexpected voting period.

I say yes

Same, but only if you have a design/got one pretty close to finish. Post if you have an estimated time to finish your design then we can evaluate it.

No conflict, it was just an idea. I suppose I'm coming from the relative ease of having a multi-tab internet browser on my phone that I can use to check and post whenever I have a few spare minutes pretty much every day, rather than only coming on when I'm at home and have hours of free time. Anything's fine by me, I was simply suggesting a model from another challenge that seemed to move a little smoother and trying to avoid thread stagnation.
I'll take back my vote in anticipation of more to come, in the case we're reopening submission time.

Yeah no offense taken! I am blessed to be able to access this site all most 24/7, and your idea can work. Just not in this situation.

1.5 probably means like 10 to 11 days of submission time.
Also..
Spoiler :
If you think theres a design here, then too bad. Im completely stumped over this

10 to 11 days submission?! What?! That's too long!

Yeah same, I don't know what to do. I won't enter so I'll give you suggestions. Maybe a Hansa or Gotland design?

I'd argue that it's just long enough.

I think that the matter is not whether or not we have plans, but rather whether we managed to actually develop it.

The Inca Empire

Leader: Huyana Capac

UA: Tokoyriko: Worked Metallic Resources (Iron, Gold, Silver, Copper and Aluminium) increase Kuraka generation and generate +1 :c5culture: Culture. Upon finishing a Wonder, a source of Copper, Gold or Silver appears in the City it was built and Units gain +15% :c5strength: Combat Strength and +1 :c5moves: Movement for the next 15 turns.

UU: Kuraka: Great General replacement. May be expended to hurry :c5production: Production in a City, much like a Great Engineer.

UI: Tambo: Unlocked at Construction. +2 :c5food: Food. Gain an additional +1 :c5food: Food after Civil Service. May only be built on tiles with a Road inside Incan territory. Units starting their turn on top of a Tambo heal 10 HP. Improves Iron, Gold, Silver, Copper and Aluminum. Must not be built next to another Tambo.

That said, this is my design.

You guys never said which type of Gold it had to be.
