Civ 5 Design Challenge IV - History/Eras

Ah, now that's interesting. Going wide means ~18 CPT for each saved scientist and writer for later bulbing, though, which could be pretty ridiculous late game; however early game it would probably more mean prophets out converting, which I think is a pretty interesting design. Would encourage spreading 3 times with prophets and bringing them back after that.

Well, I learned some things today...

Chimú Culture
UA: People of the Moon
Coastal cities gain a source of the unique Spondylus luxury, inland cities gain a source of the unique Llama luxury, and internal :trade: trade routes between them grant :c5culture: culture and :c5gold: gold equal to these provided by city connections. Each different luxury in a city grants it the yields of a random specialist.

UB: Ciudadela
Replaces Palace. May rebuilt in the :c5capital: capital for each city connected to it up to 10 times, with each time increasing its yields by +1 and increasing the :c5gold: gold from :c5trade: city connections by +1. Note that it may not be bought, and it will cost more to build with each city you found.

UU: Caballito de totora
Replaces workboat. Unlike it, the Caballito de totora grants a lump sum of :c5culture: culture when consumed which increases with each era you pass. Additionally, it grants a small amount of :c5food: food when moving through a tile with a sea resource (may only happen once per tile).

Norte Chico (Purépecha)

UA: A Flourished Society -
Trade Routes :trade: made with another civilization with more Luxuries or Strategic Resources than your own grant +30% more Gold :c5gold:. All of your cities produce +15% more Food :c5food: and worked Farms yield +1 more Food :c5food: as well.

UB: Quipu Gallery -
Replaces the Library. Upon the birth of a new Citizen :c5citizen: gain a temporary Science :c5science: boost of +20% lasting for 5 turns.

UB: Coastal Market -
Replaces the Market, however, it may only be built in cities on the coast. When a Trade Route :trade: is established with another coastal city gain a free Sea-based Luxury Resource. For each Sea-based Resource inside of this city's borders, the city is provided with a bonus of +1 Food :c5food:.

Not sure if this would be considered cheating, but I took a tribe from the Northern pre-columbian Americas: The Aleut (a.k.a. the Unangan)

The Aleut (Oniishin*)
UA: Hunter Gatherers of the Bering Sea: Upon settling a coastal city on an island (smaller or in equal size to 15 tiles) where no other Aleutian city is located, a free Iqyax is provided as well as a random non-strategic sea-resource within its working range. This might be a copy of the unique (tradable) Walrus resource (+1 food and +1 production; +1 food when improved). Walrus and Whales provide an additional +2 happiness, since they are considered delicacies.

UU: Iqyax (a.k.a. Aleutian Kayak or Baidarka) (replaces the Workboat): Upon improving a non-strategic sea-resource, it grants a unique bonus depending on the resource*to the nearest Aleut city. This bonus does not trigger when the resource is banned by the United Nations or World Congress. This effect only triggers once per resource (abusing the pillaging barbarians won't work :p). Has two more moves than the workboat.

UI: Umqan (a.k.a. a type of burial): May only be constructed on hills and may not be constructed next to another Umqan. Provides +1 faith, +2 culture, and +2 gold with economics. Also provides +1 local happiness and an additional +1 culture if an Aleutian unit or population has died (starved or killed in combat) within the last 10 turns. Unlocked at construction.

Spoiler * :

Oniishin is one of the few important Aleut people (she was the head chief's daughter) I could find some information about. However, she lived around the year 1984, which is quite some time after our given time-span... Anyway, If anyone has any other suggestion, don't hestitate to post it!

Resource Bonuses
Fish: +50% food towards the next citizen
Crab: +20 gold (+5 additional gold for every era after the Medieval era)
Whales: A free Japanese fishing boat A We Love the King Day starts, which lasts one and a half times the turns of a normal WLTKD
Walrus: A free naval unit depending on era (Walrus skins were used to make kayaks, though I felt like making it provide a free Iqyax wouldn't make much sense. It would allow you to improve too many resources too fast I think)
Pearls: +15% culture towards the next Social Policy

The Aleut lived around the Aleutian Islands and the Shumagin Islands of Alaska, located around here:

EDIT: I edited a bit, changes are in blue

Some Background Info
The arrival of Columbus in the Americas didn't change the Aleut at all, probably because there was nothing (but snow) where the Aleut lived. It wasn't until the late 18th century that 'outsiders' started to mess with the Aleut. During this time, the Russian promyshlenniki traders established settlements on the islands and exploited the people. There was a recorded revolt against Russian workers in Amchitka in 1784. It started when supplies ran out which the Russians had provided to local people in trade for their furs.
In 1942, during World War II, Japanese forces occupied Attu and Kiska Islands in the western Aleutians. They later transported captive Attu Islanders to Hokkaidō, where they were held as prisoners of war. The United States government evacuated hundreds more Aleuts from the western chain and the Pribilofs during WWII, placing them in internment camps in southeast Alaska, where many died. The Aleut Restitution Act of 1988 was an attempt by Congress to compensate the survivors. (Most of this information was cited from Wikipedia)

The World War II campaign by the United States to retake Attu and Kiska was a significant component of the operations in the Pacific theater.
Anyway, the Aleut already lived during the pre-Columbian years (not that they were changed by Columbus's interference), which is why I decided I could design a civ around them without it being considered cheating

Also the time period is 1000-1500 right?

Yeah, Norte Chico is way too early.

Anyway, are we gonna start voting soon or give it a couple more days? I'm super impatient :p

I agree! Even though I'm not really that important here!

Not sure if this would be considered cheating, but I took a tribe from the Northern pre-columbian Americas: The Aleut (a.k.a. the Unangan)

The challenge is just to create a pre-Columbian American civ, doesn't matter if it's North or South. :)

One time I tried to rush the voting process and everybody yelled at me.

Also, if we're counting the Norte Chico too early, we should give Ken a chance at another submission.

INB4 the cut:

Chincha - Hatunca Chumpiauca

UA:Phoenicians of the New World: Trade Routes have no limit when connecting to City States and provide extra science to the target city. Earn Influence each time a city state connected through a trade route discovers a technology.

UU: Balsa Boat: Replaces Cargo Ship. Your units may move through Balsa Ship routes as though they were roads and can enter ocean tiles if following them even before the discovery of Astronomy.

UB: Xylography Print: Replaces Monument. +2 Culture. Doubles Production from Cutting Forest

Hear, hear!

Sorry everyone, didn't exactly do the time period testing for this! Here's my newly improved submission. :) This one was from (1200 -1521) so this fits well-enough I hope!

Husatecs

UA: The Art of Construction -
Great Engineers :c5greatperson: are earned +10% faster for each Construction-based tech discovered :c5science:. Stone, Marble and Silver resource tiles yield +2 Production :c5production: and +1 Gold :c5gold: when worked by a city.

UU: Cobre Guerrero -
Replaces the Warrior. Unlike the Warrior it replaces, this unit travels faster in territory owned by you or an allied City-State :c5citystate:. This unit has +30% Combat Strength :c5strength: when attacking units :c5war: in your own territory.

UB: Husatec Figure -
Replaces the Shrine. Unlike the Shrine it replaces, this building grants a Faith :c5faith: boost whenever a mining tile improvement has been completed.

All Construction Based Techs:
Spoiler :
• Construction
• Architecture
• Metallurgy
• Industrialization

The Taino
Guacanagaríx

Land of High Mountains
Cities yield +1 culture when adjacent to coasts or mountains and +1 culture and +1 happiness when adjacent to both. All units in friendly territory heal 5 hp each turn they are adjacent to a mountain.

Macana Warrior - (replaces Warrior)
Has the Areytos promotion allowing it to gain +10% combat strength for every turn it is adjacent to the same enemy unit.

Batey - (replaces Circus)
Doesn't require Horses or Ivory and provides +1 culture from each building that yields experience.

So it's been two full days since the last design. Are we ready for a vote?

Think so.

I'll go with Dude's Taino

Had some problems with every other design, and I like the warrior

I vote for Troller's Oniishin, once I deciphered what was being said with all that update text.

Here is a design roundup:

That's a total of 12 designs! (is that on par with the old record?)

For me it went between senshi's Timacua and Mobfire's mississippians. +1 for..... (**insert drum sounds here**) senshi's Timacua!

I vote for Troller's Oniishin, once I deciphered what was being said with all that update text.
Woops  (EDIT: I've tidied up a bit now. It should be more readable!)
