I just got the game to day and the game's installed but every time I try starting the game it starts showing a black background window then goes away:mad::mad:!!!! Is it some sort of bug or something? Please answer ASAP. I really want to play the game.

try killing the opening video in the .ini file. might not help but it's worth a shot.

I had same problem. I had to re-install game and then it started to work. Seems that many have had same problem.

Hi guys, got same problem with Civ5, maybe you know what to do...........

I've got Windows Vista, 1 gb ram and a Intel Chipset 945. When I click on "run civ 5 with DX9" in Steam the game is not responding (the blackscreen shows for a second, but it disapear - and that's all).

Is it any possibility to run civ5 with these card and RAM or is it to low? Is it problem with RAM or graphic card? There's no chance to me to buy a new laptop at the moment so if you have any idea how to fix it, tell me!
Thx thx thx!

It's the chipset graphics. Some people got it to run not that badly with 1GB, but most people with older Intel IGPs have problems.

So, you say it's a graphic card, it's impossible to run CIV5 with Intel Chipset 945?
Looks like I need better laptop:mad:
Anywany, thx for an answer......................

Please post a DxDiag file for your system. See my sig for instructions on how to create one. Thanks.

I still don't understand. What window am I making a DxDiag of?

Just do the description in the linked post directly in Windows (not a window, MS Windows ;)).

And another thing: The forum rules say about the signature, that you are allowed to have 5 lines of size 2 OR 7 lines of size 1 in your signature. You have 7 lines of size 2, please change that.

Actually I haven't seen anyone running it on Vista or Win 7 with the Intel 945. Someone did mention they were able to get it on XP sp 3 on the 945.

I've seen a few who have gotten it to go on the Intel 965. Alas I am also stuck in 945 land on a Dell D620, so if this turns out to be incorrect could you please point me to the thread.

Actually you will notice that beyond the title, the folks that have it working are actually running the 965 not teh 945. I've been following that thread since it started, due to the lack of comments to the similar one I started on release day.

Yea, I would but the lappy is a company machine and not upgradeable without mobo mods involving surface mount soldering... Maybe if the budget gets released I can upgrade it next year.

Right now I'm looking at upping the RAM to max and trying to run Civ5 in a VM, or getting hands on a Dell D-Dock and trying some higher end PCI cards in the dock. Those are about the only solutions I haven't tried yet. Of course there is always the possibility that a patch down the road will fix it too, but I won't hold my breath.

Good news is Civ5 runs great on both my dual quad core workstations with Quadro graphics. I just have to stick with Civ4 for my long plane flights.

I'm having the same problem. I just deleted the local files and an trying to install from <strike>steam instead of</strike> the disc. I was hoping if I waited some months alot of the suck would have been fixed. However...

specs, should be compatible AFAIK
Windows 7 64
i-7 2600@3.4Ghrz
8 Gig DDR3 SDRAM
ATI Radeon 5770 (99% sure), updated drives via device manager, did nothing

It has an nVidia card in another PCI slot, but its disabled, the integrated graphics card is disabled too. Based on the fact other ppl had this problem, I'm guessing that is not the problem.

EDIT: turns out I WAS installing off steam. Fixed by installing off disc instead.

the default settings for civ5 is win95 ???

if vista or win7 run as administrator

I know I'm necroing an old thread, but I'm having the same problem as the others.

I have 2 gigs of RAM and a 945 chipset. I'm not terribly surprised that I'm having problems, but I hoped that the game would either start or give me a proper error message.

My dxdiag is attached.
