Civ Cultural Suggestion

If you can't upgrade him then he Needs his str 5 back amd his 100% vs Melee. You made him Unique And Non Upgradeable so his lifespan is limited!

If he's now Upgradeable then str 4 + Melee 75% and double movement. If you have no Obsidian or Copper available and you can get him he's the only unit that will save your behind against Barbs and an AI with Horse or elephant until you get to Iron.

I brought Him up for discussion in v16 cause you can't upgrade him. If you're gonna keep him Non upgradeable and lower his stats, then he becomes a "wasted" unit imho.

I am fairly sure StrategyOnly went through and made all the old UUs upgrade again.

How about this you guys?

Dog Soldier
Strength: 3 (like stone axeman)
Vs Melee: 50% (half of before)
Movement: 2 (This is what makes it unique)

Better? He is not as strong but he is still as fast.

That looks good to me :goodjob:

@ Hydro,
Are you now gonna go back and redo ALL the Unique Culture units now? You've downgraded Dog Soldier so all the others need to be reduced too. Whats fair for one is fair for all.

Well that's nice if you have SVN access. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't have it. :p

The next full release might not be for a few weeks. You may want to get SVN access :)

And did you see my other post to you, JosEPH in another thread?? :mischief:

Not sure if I did???

Sorry Nevets, your thread got Hijacked didn't it.

Are you going to continue putting this idea together?

All ex-UU units (and the new ones) can upgrade but cannot be upgraded to. This prevents making uber powerful units such as upgrading an Aztec Jaguar into a English Red Coat. I also think this change was already put in place for v17 (not 100% sure).

No, it was just tweaking some of the ones that needed help. Some have already been tweaked or even replaced with new units. For instance all polearm units get bonuses vs animals and some got taken out and replaced such as the Camel Archer is a general unit while Arabia has the Mameluke instead.

On a related matter, I came across an interesting situation today, where an AI civ had over 30 bombard elephants. Since they are national units limited to a max of 15 this was rather odd! I haven't had time to totally pin down the cause yet, but based on readi the code I don't think the code checks the unit class limits when upgrading to a unit( for the AI at least). I plan t look into this some more and fix it in the next few days. It may well be however, that making UUs not upgradable to will remove this circumstance anyway...

Bombard Elephants are general units now. Same with Balista Elephants. There is no limit on how many elephants you can have. Same goes for Camels such as the Camel Gunners. Note that they all have been tweaked from the UU version. Infact the only Unique Unit elephant is the Battle Elephant from the Siamese. The Khmer now have the Phak'ak which is like the uber anti-elephant unit.

In short they are working as they should. No need to tweak them since they have no limit like the other UU have.

Well, in the assets I was running a the time they had a limit of 15 which is how i noticed (various assertions in the code went off pointing out someone had more than they were allowed). When did it change? (and my real point was that there appears to be a bug that allows the ai to upgrade ignoring class limits if ever a unit that can be upgraded to has a limit - I think rogues would be in that category, but I haven't investigated in detail yet)

According to Civilopedia, Bombard Elephant is National Unit (15 Allowed).

This thread was dead already. The original mod idea was to have wonders that would give you a culture in every city, but that proved more complicated than people wanted since it required changing the Culture (____) buildings to be able to be built anywhere, but requiring a new Tribe (___) building that required the original resources. That way you could have a 'free Culture(____) in every city' wonder without the Culture buildings all being 'disabled' the next turn for lack of resources.

I suppose you could change the Culture(____) buildings to require no resources and be non-buildable, like the holy shrines, and add in a set of almost identical buildings that do require the resources but give free Culture(____) buildings in every city. That way building one of the new buildings would give you that culture in every city, so you could build UU's / get Production bonuses on Wonders anywhere you wanted.

Hmmm weird. I see the Balista Elephant is too. Well they are not linked to culture buildings at least, just the elephant trainer. Eh I can live with them as national units. However I think they were done by mistake (or done unilaterally by SO).

When did it change?

Before the cannons new got added. So maybe v16 or 17ish?
