CIV Gold!

My error might be my merging Civ GOLD with BUFFY. Does BUFFY not allow XML editing? And if so, what must I delete, so that it will start working?

BUFFY should support xml editing, I have not used it but I have no reason to believe it does not.

If you simply merge Civ Gold and BUFFY without editing anything, do you get that error message ?

No, and I edited the Nipa Hut before putting in BUFFY, and it worked. Huh?

Aaagh. Wait. I tried installing a new Gold (without BUFFY) and now none of the Gold civs show up. I only renamed it 'good old gold', so what happened?

Ah. I see a problem. I think it was mentioned somewhere in the thread- but I haven't the patience to look through it. When I load Gold, none of the leaders pop up, and when I play, I get a message: 'LEADER_DEGANAWIDA (or whatever) in INFO_CLASS was incorrect'. What? Why?

I usually get such an error message when there is a missing tag. Try Visual Web Developer or some other xml editor so you can find the place where a tag is missing. Maybe it is even a missing "<" or ">", or no closing tag ("/>").

Found the XML issue.

Note the \ instead of a /. This popup shows for just about every leader in-game when I start a game with random players.

Aha, this is my problem. The following posts say nothing to me- how to fix this?

Ah. I finally got it to work- is there a balancing UUs spreadsheet anywhere?

So sorry for the stupid question, but I'm a CivGold newbie. Are new versions of CivGold being developed for release or is 5.1 the last version being worked on? I'm asking because I'm wondering what Final means in Civ Gold 5.1 Final. Also what's the DiplomacyFix.zip download for? I didn't find any information on it in this thread.

I apologize if this question has been answered before but I searched this thread for a solid hour reading all the XML related issues and couldn't find an answer.

I am running the game on my mac and just downloaded Civ Gold Vanilla version 3.0.

When I run the game, as the XML files are being uncached, I get a series of errors about parsing and the like. The game then opens and I can play the game just fine, except that instead of it reading Hannibal of Carthage for example, it has the html code from the XML file (it is in the TXT_CIVIV_.... format) which is just really frustrating.

Does anyone know what I have to do to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm just soliciting some help now towards 6.0. Real life has been kicking. my. ass. since September. I'd like to take some time this month (maybe spill into January) to make some art replacements, do some UU/UB balancing, fix bugs, etc.

"Final" just means that it is not a beta version. Diplomacy Fix is for verision 4.0, so it's not needed to 5.0.

The parsing errors are because of the way Mac handles text in XML. If I'm not mistaken, there is a thread on CIV Gold in the Mac forum that has a fix for this.

Wyz, and every one else that works on Mods... I got to say that I have mad respect and admiration for all you guys who stay commited to these things in spite of real life demanding your very valuable (and limited) time. Much appreciation to you guys for all you do for the game and for this community. :goodjob: :goodjob:

Many thanks! The comment is very, very, very appreciated!

As you can tell from my reply almost two months after your post, real life does take over. I have two young boys and work and other commitments (blah blah blah) so it's easy to neglect a project like this.

Hopefully we can take care of some bugs and some requests over the coming weeks.

Hey Wyz, now that I have joined the hordes of LH makers (i.e. I can finally make actual LHs), I can start getting around to making some more Civ of the Week civs, so I think they'd stuff nicely into version 6.0. :D

Maybe you should improve first on your already made civs and make more original LHs for them.

^I guess that's kind of what I meant, too - i.e. make new civs but also now and then go back to the old civs and see what I can do. :)

From the one LH you made so far I can tell you that you CAN do it!:goodjob:

Plus, I'll need to convert my old Civ of the Weeks into modular format for CivGold, so I might as well make new LHs too.

You know, I can't find anything in the Internet on that Haida leader you have in there... wouldn't Chief Koyah be a better choice?

Ah, Civ III... I was thinking about installing on my old PC (if it can still run it).
