Civ Ideas & Suggestions Not-Worth-Their-Own-Thread

Slavery

This idea's goal is to represent slaves as a free workforce in the early game that also contributed to building some of the world's wonders.

How to acquire slaves?
a) By capturing (killing) barbarians.
b) By enslaving the population of an enemy city (another alternative to annex/puppet/raze city).

What do slaves do?
a) Create worker with 0 maintenance cost.
b) Create extra hammer in capital city.
c) Sacrifice a slave to speed up wonder production. (The pyramids were built by slaves, right?)

Eventually, slaves become socially unacceptable and international pressure may force you to free the slaves.

What will freeing slaves do?
a) Workers are lost.
b) extra hammers in capital are lost.

IMO, Mongolia should be buffed with this trait:

Mounted units don't receive a penalty when attacking Cities.

Of course, +30% against CS makes this useless if focusing on CS, but this would account for normal cities too.

Move Quick Combat from the setup screen to someplace where it can be toggled after a game starts. Not having quick combat made me want to pull my hair out when I tried the Mongol scenario.

Is there any chance the animations from being attaced and attacking will be included in multiplayer?

Maybe as an game-option?

Increase the number of city-states you can kill before they all distrust you.

As it is, you get 2 (last game :mwaha:) before they start declaring permanent war. Since 1 city state VS a Civ is suicidal, they need to be more desperate before considering attacking.

hello i hope i m not gonna post a stupid idea ;p

i was wondering if we could make the game lock to certain era .
Before u start the game when u select all starting option u will be able to select begin era and end era too!
for exemple : begin era ancient and end era medieval or begin renaissance and end industrial era
with the option in tech tree for each era of futur tech so you dont get stuk in game by technologies you're scientifist can keep search but just for civ point.(cause if u dont put futur tech game stuk cause nothing to search more at end of a era)
So for all people who want to play only a specific era no more mod needed only a simple option in the start menu.

Other option in the starting menu will be able or disable nuke bomb only this so people can choose total destruction by nuke or by only troops (plane, soldier, tank, battleship and all)

2 single option in start menu that can change everything and maybe dont need to use some mod just to make able or enable those options.
thanks to all and have fun

Tunnels and chunnels.
Available only after railroads.
Worker action similar to 'route-to' to build tunnel from one tile to another under one mountain.
Similarly, build a chunnel from one tile to another under one water tile.
High maintenance cost.
Slow to construct.

I would really appreciate it if the UI remembered my last setup. When I load my game I have to set it to show my research in the upper left corner, then go into cities to show citizen management and the production queue.
That's how I like to have it and I'd love it if it remembered.

Also I'd appreciate if the game would remember the advanced game setup settings.

And the savegames should be sorted by date, not alfabetically.

These are minor issues, but they anoy me.

Some smaller versions of world maps that are set in place, like a smaller mediteranian.
Maybe another Fall from Heaven style mod set for Civ V (since it'd be totally awesome in the new combat.. even if dragons will be even more deadly)

I'd really like to see my dream civ be playable, that being the one described below (NOTE: I'm sorry if any of you decide to do this and get in trouble because of it)
Civ: Paxian Empire
Leader: Isara Gunther (YES - THE ONE FROM VALKYRIA CHRONICLES)
Unique ability:Cult of Personality - 1+ culture point for each 2 people

Unique Unit: Paxian Guard (replaces Mechanized Infantry, look like a group of men holding riot shields and with shotguns as well) - created with the perk in effect already Shock I
Unique Building:Cultural Charter School - When built, adds onto your overall culture point income 1+ and a bit more science than the Public School building that it replaces

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to select an era to play the entire game In^?

I have been a Civ fan for quite a while, and I must say that so far, I am very much impressed with this latest iteration. I just find there are some weird quirks here and there that I certainly would like to see happen. Most, if not all are based on diplomacy.

United Nations should be revamped so that voting isn't just based on liberation of cities, but also based on your relationship with other nations and what you have done for them, such as how much you've traded with them and if you have given them any gifts, such as conquered cities.

Another suggestion is how we relate to the other nations, particularly in war. I use a recent game I played as an example. For the first half of the game, I was Friendly with more than half the nations. Diplomacy was pretty good. Then one of the friends asked of me to help him in a war. I said give me 10 turns. 10 turns came, and the war was declared. Within a turn, EVERY single of my friends, including the one that asked for my help, denounced me and called me a war monger. Now, this is only after I had been at war only twice before, once to help another friend out, and another just because. Despite the fact that I was actually helping this friend out and giving him the cities I conquered, our relationship status never went above guarded for the rest of the game. All of the nations remained on "guarded" status the rest of the game.

Right now, I am finding diplomacy to be a bit too black and white and a huge joke. Is there something we can do to improve the diplomacy. You would think that after helping a friend in a war, AND giving him the cities I conquered, he'd be at my feet in love with him LOL!

Anyways. I think diplomacy needs a bit more work and a lot more options as well.

I'd like the option to disable the AI's victory competitiveness. I understand why it's there, but it just seems needlessly gamey and unimmersive to me, and I'd personally rather play with slightly less challenge than having the entire world at my throat for trying to build the Utopia project or unite the world under the UN.

This one is definitely not worth it's own thread!

At the moment, two things that I'd like to see are:

1) A Save option in the Menu on MP. I know it auto-saves but when exiting a game, paranoia creeps in a little....! :mischief:

2) When mouse-hovering over my Strategic Resources on the Top Bar, I'd like to see a bigger breakdown of where the resources are used. E.g. I know I've used 10/12 Iron but what on? (please correct me if I've missed another screen that this is on! ;) ).

I just watched that 6 episode documentary about the americian revolutionary war (which was amazing). Then I thought about how america is represented in Civ5.

Minutemen should be removed. Yeah yeah they are famous and all, excepting that America lost the vast majority of it's battles. As famous as they are Washington would trade them for a few properly-trained soldiers any day.
Our revolutionary war is spectacular because it was won via the printing press. and a UB would not only be very fitting, but it could give america a boost.

having played ci4 there are some thing that i find very good and some thing that i dont like specialy

1city attack. city attack can be used offensively which is wrong and unrealistic and destroys the immersion . cities should attack only the army that attacks them like the defensive fire in previews games

2 i dont know if this is stil in civ 5 but it is definitely in civ 4 .the fact that when you conquer a city the city model changes in your culture .this is unrealistic and kinda boring after a while so my suggestion is when you conquered a town they retain their culture model

sorry if those suggestion have been made

I agree with you on 2. But for 1, I think the system works great. Cities could fire arrows, I don't really get how it's unrealistic.

if you find this realistic then you hae no idea of combat . first garisson had a reason to be namen garrison because its job was to garrisson the wals not attack enemie who are 1 or 2 tiles away .
second one tile in the game in reality is very long distance.how can archers attack inside the city attack an enemy who is miles away

IMO great generals should be buffed when you have discovered the technology to produce Mech Inf, granting them 1 extra move. I think it would be a fair and logical upgrade, because it makes no sense to have a WWII jeep (as its graphic icon) once you have the technology to make a fast Mech Inf!

What do you think about this change?

IMO it could be a good idea to transform several of crossbowman promotions when upgrading to rifleman. For example, transforming the promotion "+25% ranged combat strength against units rough terrain" into "+20% combat strength when fighting in rough terrain" is a logical and fair conversion.

Furthermore, I think the following crossbowman promotions should be transformed when upgrading to rifleman:
  • Accuracy promotions should be transformed into Shock promotions.
  • Barrage promotions should be transformed into Drill promotions.
