Civ III AI stupidities

This isn't necessarily stupid. Killing the roads denies that city any resources it could. This causes happiness to go way down, and can hinder building defensive units. Also drives the pop down, making the city less likely to flip when you take it over.

In Conquests, armies are somewhat broken because of the extra movement point. The AI tries to match up units in the army with like movement point units, which is why when you do see the AI use armies, it's in weird combinations, like a rifleman and a knight. Or a knight and two calvary.

Just a couple of thoughts....

Wait, so the AI will build an army in Conquests? I thought that they only did that in PTW.

It rarely happens in Epic games, but it does happen. If you mod the rules so that a wonder produces an army (has happens in Rise & Rule) then the AI will use it.

5) The AI is far more important then you. No Right of Passage? It doesn't need one! It's units will simply waltz across your territory. Because they are just that much better then you. But once you inch a toe into thiers, it's get out or declare war.

Picky, picky picky.
Actually, the code that asks you to get out does *not* check to see if you are the Human player. It only checks to see if an RoP is currently in place with you. So if an AI goes "waltzing across" another AI's territory, it gets the same message.

7) The AI will allow you to give them BW in exchange for Alphabet and 30 Gold Lump sum, but if you replace that 30 Gold with 1 GPT, which adds up to 20 gold, "they would never accept such a deal"
That usually means they don't have 1GPT to spare.... (They also won't accept GPT from you if it would put you into "negative gpt".)

I suppose the AI can be broke, and that makes sense. When I actually tried the deal I mentioned, I was getting 6 GPT before my GA, and 55 GPT during my GA. (And 46 GPT after). I tried that deal during my GA, so I thought I'd mention that.
Easy way to find out - in the trade window select the AI Lump Sum line, type in 9999999 and it will tell you the total GPT the AI is making. Note this is not the available GPT, but the gross GPT. But it will tell you if the AI is weak or strong economically.

the AI never upgrades there units...so you end up blasting away on a city with your modern armor...plow through two mech inf...and the lone defender left is the dreaded spear man :spear: it can work..but i wouldnt put my money on it.

or my favorite...they piss me off by beating me to build leonardos workshop..and .....see above

Why should we be afraid of that number? The one mentioned on Revelation who has that number is evil, but 666 is just a number, IMO. (And I am a Christian.)

Hehe, 666 is just so strange, but that's because Rik Meleet said so  :joke:

But anyway, many superstitious people really believe this is the number of the devil :satan:. What ignorance.

Just a minute, let me try that. I'll edit this post to report back.

EDIT: It works if you ask for that "per turn". If you try that as lump sum, inevitably you get the message, "Not enough Gold."
OOPps...meant per turn. sorry...a bit of logical dislexia.

My pet peeves: ...the fact that the AI will send out 1000 units to kill a lone defending spear leaving their cities undefended.

...They will send a peicemeal invasion force out...you know they have hundreds of say tanks on their homeland moving around willy nilly...but when they send out several naval stacks to invade, let's say 4 galleons, and they finally land, they hit you with 4 archers and a pikeman. The boats are not even full, and they send their worst units to attack....along with this they will not land and attack the closest city...instead they spend 10 turns sailing around the continent to attack another city. Most frustrating when they are your "allies".

...Escorting galleons with destroyers ... or transports with Frigates....often at the same time. Why can't they match the units properly?

...They will trade away their fortunes for maps.

..Never buld enough workers. Never. And they will not connect a resource if their is pollution/damage to clean up. Want to cripple an AI for a long time? Bomb their strategic resources, then bomb a lot of useless road tiles on hills and mountains far away...guess what they will probably have their 2 workers clean up first...

The AI values thier original capital city. They go for it to recapture instead of a town with a source of iron, which would help them recapture thier old capital.

Speaking of capitals, has anyone ever seen the AI move their capital city for any resaon? Also, they generally keep their Kings in one spot, allowing you to win any war by heading straight for the capital.

Maybe the ancient units are slaves captured by your enemy, being sent to die as punishment.

So I don't spam my own thread, here's one. Even stupider than that, I have NEVER seen the AI build ships better than Galleys. They seem to value it pretty low to build naval units. I take transports, load them, and go to the BACK of an enemy I am fighting. Cities there tend to be new, and small. I start with those puny cites, and squish the big ones between two invasion forces. Preety cool, but pretty irritating. (Probably because I never defend my back-side ports, either, CUZ I NEVER HAVE TO!!)

You know, I really hope the Civ IV designers gave the AI real tactics. the ones for all Civ games so for suck. (esp. Civ I, where the tactic is to get free units and attack from nowhere. Made me treble defense very quickly.)

Oh, I've seen the AI use transports.

My latest AI stupidity came in the last GotM. With only me and an AI civ left, the AI civ builds the UN!

Honest Abe was one tech away from the modern age...needed Mech Transport...he had Combustion for decades...his cruisers and destroyers were all over the place....very close to me at that point in the Tech race...and what does he research?

Yep, Ironclads!

I got a three tech lead on him now...game over.

The AS do upgrade units. It's only that they do it only when they're mega-rich and don't know how to spend all that money. They don't considering upgrading units a worthy thing. They prefer to build new ones and keep the obsolete ones around, so they cost them gpt in manteinance.

A really stupid thing of the AS is that: they always switch from Republic to Democracy, even if they're not religious, and when they're at war they usually stay in that government when war weariness is so heavy that they must turn half of their population into clowns to keep the cities under control. They're also utter unable to use the luxury slider.

EDIT: have you ever saw a governor suggesting to train an infantry (90 shields) into a city that produces 82 shields per turn? :crazyeye: The AS are completely incapable to optimize unit production in their empires.
