Civ III installation trouble

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a copy of Civ III (Vanilla) after a digital copy that my friend gave me (which was complete) didn't work at all. Thee game won't install. It keeps trying to uninstall each time I make an attempt. Plz help--Civ III is an old favorite of mine and I'd love to rediscover it...and not return it to Best Buy

A few thigns to consider.

what is the OS you are running? Try to copy the CD to the HD and see, if it has any read errors.
If you are on Vista or Win7 open the CD and find the setup exe and right click it and run it as admin.

I'm running Windows XP. There were no errors when I copied it over.

I would go to run and use Regedit. Clear out all files on my HD for civ install. Use regedit to clear out all registry entries for civ.
