Civ IV to ship before Halloween!?!

I did not say two years, in fact, I said two weeks. Before I make any more comments, I would like to hear from an official source WHY they are moving this up. Are they truly done, if so, great.

"The game's ready. They're done." Really? Do you work for them or is this pure speculation?

I think the first date set was set JUST to hit the christmas market. Many publishers Save a product to sell at a specific date even if the producer say they can be done several months beforehand.

I also believe that the game is in the polish stage, so they just have to take into consideration now, that they have a month or two less to polish the game now.

Last thing, though, that really means that we should be seeing around 1-2 reviews/designer diaries a week from now on, doesn't it? :mischief:
ohhhhhhhhh nooooo!! baaad aussie!! dont you go teasing me with those possibilities!!

Well, even though now I'll have to shift what days I've asked off from work, this is 100% good news.

I'm not too fussy regarding bugs for the initial release, and so long as there aren't any really bad ones like bombers not being able bomb, it's preferable to be playing the game while waiting for a few minor things to get fixed that slipped by, than to wait without during that time. It all ends up at the same working condition anyway.

has anyone heard if there is going to be scenarios with this or if this is going to be a vanilla version?

Yep! At least one WW2 scenario I think! ;)

Even if he'd be reading this and post here now, do you really think Sören will ever admit to rushing the game and the possibility of list of bugs if that was the case ???
The sad thing is that he probably logged on to read all the excited fans comments, knowing that they had just annouced it was shipping a month early.

SHAME on you all! :goodjob:

I think a man in his position is used to criticism, fair or not. It's like they say over here : "A stupid man can't insult, a smart just doesn't" ;)
Ofcourse, people are made to criticize, it's easier than giving a positive response you know... I personally love the earlier release date, though I highly doubt it was done to please the impatient fans instead of commerial reasons :D

I agree.

If I was them, after listening to most of the people on here, I would have eliminated half the features, threw in some bugs on purpose, and released that version 2 weeks early where all the so called fans would snatch it up, then released the real version on time for the reasonable mainstream.
That is something, I completely belief.

From quite a couple of your postings I've learned that you don't like people to criticize what you have chosen to like.
To me, this seems very much to be little fanboy's behaviour.

Let the rest of us hope that Firaxis has a more professional attitude. And let us hope that pushing the release date forward doesn't mean too much "polishing" been skipped.

Its when everyone dresses up as monsters (Or dorks) and goes around trying to get candy or playing tricks on people. So where are you from?

Notice the word when, not what.

Oh no !

I hope the massive losses Take Two has had hasn't "influenced" the early release of CivIV.

I hope they release the game finished and polished. I don't mind waiting another three months (or six) for that.

I'd hate them having to release ten patches to cover all the bugs of a rushed release due to their dissmal financial 3Q results.

Nothing worse than playing C4 and OMG, the AI Armies are broken -again-, OMG the wonder video has a glitch, OMG there's a double gold bug, OMG The Secret Headquarters ain' working, OMG the SGL can't rush anything nor does he start a Golden Scientific Age, woops the barbarians are broken ... sounds familiar, anyone ? -cough- C3C -cough-

And there's no patch released for most of the above ... :sniper: ATARI

I'd absolutely send you a special copy.

If "fan" is an insult, maybe there should be a civWHINEatics.com

Obviously they would have a more professional attitude. :crazyeye:

I just noticed in the couple of months past, everyone assumed there was no way they would get it done on time, and would be late, boo, hoo, etc...

Straight away when it's being sent in this quarter, the immediate assumption is that they aren't going to find all of the bugs they would have found in the last 2 weeks.

I just believe in Warpstorm who's in the business and is always saying how precious the last weeks are prior to release.

I'm not talking of Firaxis, I think they're great and admire them.

It's Take two that worries me, they're the ones pushing the scheduled release ahead.

Firaxis.:worship:

Firaxis :whipped: Take Two

Well it's not really bad news :

everyone knows a game is ALWAYS delayed. So when they announce it to be released on october 31st, it will in fact hit the shelves on november 15th, as previously expected :) :)

Maybe they finished two weeks ago because all of the play testers refuse to play anymore with the huge size of the units

roflolhos

lets get ready to rumble

the game seems so unpolished graphics-wise... I thougth they would spend a few more weeks (or months) to fix it but now it sounds like the game is ready to roll (has it gone gold already?).

I really hope the core gameplay is still as good and the game is not as buggy as civ3 when it's first released. Let's just hope.

Hey GreyFox :wavey:!

I agree they would put a date out there they 100% know they can reach, and then release it early if they can (rather than releasing late, which looks bad). However, when it says they are releasing it to get in this fiscal quarter, I am not sure if this is because the game is done (we really need official word on this).

Folks: Read the article on gamespot:

concerning "hot coffee":
However, the $28.8 million loss was lower than some early estimates , which said Take-Two could be out as much as $40 million.
concerning the year:
The company now expects $1.22 to $1.27 billion in net sales and $0.85 to $0.90 in diluted net income per share for the fiscal year ending October 31, 2005

You see: No need to rush!

I'm happy and excited and pray that Europe gets Civ4 as soon as possible! (anyone heard about european release dates???)

I understand all your anxiety since we are all "burned childs" when it comes to civ3, the buggiest game I ever bought!! But that was ATARI! Let's give 2k a chance! Personally I'm going to get the game the day it get's out anyway, although I swore to myself not to do that! :crazyeye:

Stilgar08, Firaxis is developing Civ4 (and they did Civ3). The programming and the coding are all done there. The job of Take Two (2K really) is to publish the game. They aren't in the programming process.

alot of crying going on  .............. just cant make anyone happy anymore always negative

Now who wouldnt agree with this quote

All i can say is that im happy, This might have been the plan from the begining to release before november, get it out early, i think they are ready to ship. All of us will be the true testers we will find any bugs still left. After all if they had came to you and said that they wanted you to be a Beta tester everyone would have drooled at the idea!! So think of this as a early release for us to test and report any bugs, they will be fixing any major bugs found right away on a new game and we get to play the game sooner its a win-win Situation.

EDIT: I'll pay $50 to be a Beta tester any day!........

Yeah I thought so............it says it all doesnt it  :D
