Hi
New to Civilization - just purchased Civ IV and tutorial stops at the point where I'm instructed to double click on the city name. Everything is working (i.e. it's not freezing) - I can go back and forth between views, but I can't proceed - scouts can't advance, can't end turn. help!

DX diag txt file attached. Have downloaded latest patch as per instructions in Civ IV website.

Yes! I had the same experience. Don't no what to do next in this tutorial. Very weird. I clicked on every possible button in the city screen but nothing happened. The tutorial just freezes and there is no way to continue with the tutorial.

I hope anyone has a sollution for this problem.

Greetings!

There is probably a task that virtual-sid has told you to do but you are overlooking. You might have to click an icon in the city screen to 'pass the test'.

There is definitely something not quite right because Virtua-Sid doesn't give you any 'task' he just goes silent (no text or continue button). When you try to move the scouts you get the message 'can't move to that tile', when you try to end your turn, it won't let you!

I went back and started the tutorial again (I had saved it) from the same spot - after clicking on the scouts, I suddenly went to a cut screen of a giant chessboard! Apparently, I'd won the game LOL! Virtual-Sid had disappeared and I could not continue. The second time I ran the tutorial, the exact same thing happened at the exact same spot.

Finally, I ran it a third time - well, third time lucky! I wish I had written down my keystrokes because I didn't do a whole lot different - Doubleclicked on city name, clicked everything in there, tried to move scouts, tried to end turn, then suddenly I went back into the city and there was Virtua-Sid - from then on everything went fine!

Glad to know I wasn't the only one who had this problem - all I can say is keep trying and if I run it again, I'll try and log some more in here to let you know what I did that 'fixed' it!

I had the same problem, and finally found a solution: I had been double-clicking on the city's name, which took me to the city screen, but did not continue the tutorial.

If, however, I double click on the city itself, it goes to the city screen, and the tutorial continues.

That was frustrating. :)
