Here are a few suggestions for Sweden. How many do we aim for?
Great Scientists:
Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778, created the modern taxonomy of species).
Anders Celsius (1701-1744, chemist, from where we got degrees Celsius).
Carl Wilhelm Scheele (1742-1786, chemist, discovered several elements).
Olof Rudbeck (1630-1702, anatomist).
All the apostles of Carolus Linnaeus, among them for instance Pehr Kalm (1716-1779).
Great Engineer
Christopher Polhem (1661-1751, made several inventions, and introduced much technology, supervised construction of Göta Kanal).
Nicodemus Tessin the Elder (1615-1681) and
Nicodemus Tessin the Younger (1654-1728, father and son, architects, known for many castles, the most important being the royal castle constructed after the fire in 1697).
Jonas Alströmer (1685-1761, agricultural reformer, credited with bringing potaties to Sweden)
Henrik Hybertsson (??-1627, constructor of Vasa, a Swedish ship that sunk on its maiden voyage, incredible well preserved and one of the main tourist attraction of Stockholm today).
Great Prophet
Olaus Petri (1493-1552, most important religious figure for Sweden, broght the reformation here).
Laurentius Andreae (1470-1552, another reformer).
Gustav Trolle (1488-1535, most famous opponent of the reformation).
Hans Brask (1464-1538, one of the more famous bishops of Swedish history, mostly due to the story wherein he, although he did sign a death warrant, put in a note that he was forced to. That note saved his life later one, giving rise to the notion of a "Brask note", meaning you sign something under protest).
Saint Birgitta (1303-1373, she lived in the time frame before 1520 when Sweden spawns here, but within the time of Sweden in RFCE++. She's, as far as I know, Sweden's only saint).
Great Generals. (Do we have name in the English rendering or the local language, i.e. Karl XII?)
Charles XII (1682-1718, most famous warrior king of Sweden, lost in the great Nordic war, after many initial, brilliant victories).
Gustavus Adolphus (1594-1632, close or above Charles XII, another warrior king, built the Swedish Empire in the 30 years war).
Charles XI (1655-1697, another Swedish king, reformed the army creating the Karolins, won against Denmark in the bloody battle of Lund).
Charles X Gustav (1622-1660, took a Swedish army and walked over the ice between the Danish islands, quite a daring feat).
Carl Gustav Rehnskiöld (1651-1722, best commander of Charlies XII)
Adam Ludwig Lewenhaupt (1659-1719, second best commander of Charles XII).
Magnus Stenbock (1664-1717, defended Sweden while Charles XII was away).
Gustaf Horn (1592-1657, most important general of Gustavus Adolphus).
Great Artists
Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795, our most beloved musician from that time)
Queen Kristina (1626-1689, invited a number of artists to Sweden. I don't know if being a patron of art is sufficient to classify as a great artist. For instance, should the Medicis be used as great artists?)
Gustav III (1746-1792, same as Kristina).
Hedvig Eleonora (1636-1715, as above).
In general, I have difficulty coming up with Swedish great artists besides Bellman if we are not to include patrons of art. What's your opinion on that option?
Great Merchants
Jakob Persson Wallenberg (1699-1758, founded the Wallenberg dynasty, which to this day retain control of important Swedish companies).
Georg Herman af Trolle (1680-1765, captain on first exepdition of the Swedish East India Company).
Claes Fleming (1592-1644, organzied the colony of New Sweden in America).
Hendrik Carloff (1622-??, founded the Swedish Gold Coast colony).
Great Spies
Jöran Persson (1530-1568, counsellor and spymaster of Eric XIV. The way he has been depicted in Swedish history makes him perfect as a great spy).
Axel Oxenstierna (1583-1654, de facto ruler of Sweden when Gustavus Adolphus was out warring and in Christina's minority)
Axel von Fersen (1755-1810, Swedish diplomat that engineered the escape attempt of the French Royal family during the revolution. Alledged to have had a relationship with Marie Antoinette).
Greycoat (1655-1697, nickname given to Charles XI, he is alleged to have travelled around the country, dressed as a simple farmer, to root out corrupt noblemen).
