Civ VII Developer Video - November 2025 | What's coming with tomorrow's update!

Civ3 conquests had a Middle Ages Scenario I believe? Looking at the wiki it had Casimir... But no Richard I as far as I can see...

Civ3 had the best scenarios from what I remember - which isn't much it would appear. I mostly remember playing WWII, Napoleon and Mesoamerica to death... But if I was gonna bet on anyone having a favourite scenario in a Civ game it would be from there. .
I thought I might be seeing Casimir which is why I asked.

Edit: Could it be the Fall of Rome scenario? I see mention that Ed designed that one?

They can't catch a break, can they?

What do you think the 4th civ is
No guarantees those 3 will come in a single pack. So far packs were pretty diverse geographically. Probably they'll be spread between 2 packs?

A bit strange choice of Heian for antiquity, it's pretty late Japan period, but probably ok, since it's still considered "classic" Japan?

We clearly expected some samurai-themed Japan for its popularity in mass culture and Sengoku was probably chosen for the same reason - it's represented in Shogun TV series and many other media.

Joseon was quite expected, but it's interesting that civ roster now seem to be focused on creating continuous civilization paths outside Europe, while Europe is quite a mess of upgrade paths.

Not even "outside Europe". Unless I'm missing something completely, they're all in Asia - China, India, Iran, and now Japan and Korea.

Europe is a mess of upgrade paths, but at least they're paths, plular. South America and Africa are both very barren.

And then, there are some odd geographic idiosyncracies; we have a tundra civ in Modern and soon in Exploration, too, and meanwhile, the northernmost civilization (and capital) of Ancient era is Rome, but we have at least four in the tropics, and another few sub-tropical. I kept wondering why my Mississipian and Rome games always start in tundra, and at this point I assume it's because almost everything else goes either tropics or desert.

I think part of the reason is that in Asia, there seemed to be a clearer path between the dynasties. I mean, obviously when you dig in, they did expand and rule over slightly different territories, but I think it's more jarring to go Korea-China-Japan, for example, than to go Rome-Norman-England. So yeah, in that sense, having full paths for India, Korea, China, Japan makes more sense, before you fill in too many more of the European jumble. Slightly curious if those civs come in the next patch to fill in those ones, though, rather than filling in the larger holes in South America, for example.

But yeah, it wouldn't hurt to get something ancient era that's a bit more of a tundra civ, sure. some old Norse would probably go well with the current crop of civs.

That's what we have to do with Silla and Meiji now, so it's clearly not a deal breaker. And I've not lived in any of those three countries, so I can't comment how jarring that is, but I can promise you that not many Bulgarians would be thrilled by the concept of evolving into Russia. I understand why China specifically had its own path, I don't object to it, but I very much disagree the five most important continuous paths are all in Asia, and Rome specifically can do much better than Normans in exploration. Ethiopia deserves a full path, and would help fill out Africa.

I'd say Tonga is a first step to create continuous path outside Asia.

If we go by those 3 then it might be Goryeo that way Korea gets 2 and Japan gets 2.

I'm not surprised that we might be getting them. I'm more surprised that we might be getting them so soon, even before the first expansion.
I admit to my own ignorance about pacific islanders freely - but isn't Tonga into Hawai'i more like Khmer into Dai Viet than Han into Ming?
I believe that's the only reason why they were put into Antiquity.

I checked the server and you won’t believe who I found

Leaks abound from the Modding Helpline Discord :crazyeye: :

I want to believe ...
While it’s great that Japan and Korea can have their full historical paths so early, it’s disappointing that other regions are being completely overlooked. I think it’s about time they focused some attention on Africa and the Americas. Even Europe could use a bit more love.

Anyway, I don’t think they would release two Japanese and two Korean civilizations in the same DLC. Both countries are major gaming markets, so it’s smarter to spread them out and pair them with civilizations that aren’t as commercially appealing. Still, among civs from the same region, could there be a chance for the Ryukyu Kingdom? Or perhaps a Manchurian empire like Liao or Jin?
