Civ3 1.29f Patch ReadMe is here!

A few weeks ago when PTW was announced, it was mentioned that an upgrade to the editor would be relased in June. One of the reasons to give us the newer editor was so Civ players could create scenarios that would get included in the PTW XPack.

If that's the case.... did anyone test this editor for use in creating scenarios? Okay, I know I apologized for being harsh before, but I am just curious here.

Explain to me how a scenario can be made with this thing? A WWII scenario? An American Civil War scenario? Think about it... did anyone actually try this? Sure, you can place the cities, expland the borders, plop down some units, amend the advances and wonders.... but what then? Is there a war going on? No diplomacy settings to make that? If I send my fleet west from Spain.... I end in Russia cuz there are no flat maps. And how do I win? There are no Objective cities are there? And there are no Events at all. These aren't scenarios! These are just improved maps.

Come on, if you said you wanted player created scenarios, where is the scenario creation ability?

Again, I love this patch.... but.....

"Circular leader heads used in civ3 are no longer hardcoded."

Yeeees! Now my DanishCiv will be perfectly bug-free!! (in fact, perfect in every aspect of it :D)

....oooooh, we don't have a single player scenario creator here.... but what this improved editor REALLY is good for is creating maps for MP games..... maybe that is what is intended for the PTW Xpack, since MP is the big feature it includes.... makes sense now.

Oh yeah, youre right! Didnt think of that!

man... you broke my day :(

I would not be suprised if Firaxis had a senerio pack/creator on their radar. It seems that PTW is going to focus on the multiplayer part as well as general game play. The type of editor that seems to be wanted is a relitivly signifigant change. If ther is demand for it ans it seems that there is. I could see a post PTW xpcak that does senerios.

Relax wotan321, dont jump to conclusions. As for your Flat-map, just make a terrain that looks like water that you cant settle on, sure you will get random units walking on it but there is probably some way to get rid of that to.

And the Diplomatic setting's are also needed in any 'rpg' Scn. although they did say they were going to make a WWII scn. in the xp but suddenly stopped and "left it up to the fans" to make it. But most of the Questions people have asked are done, some aren’t most are you can see by reading the read-me. Just wait. We will find out soon enough. No Giffy, I highly doubt a post PTW xp, if anything it will be another patch.

Even without events, triggers or the ability to set diplomacy, we're still a lot closer to having a functional scenario editor than with the last patch. Historical scenarios will be more difficult to implement, but not impossible to do. All in all, I think this is going to be a great patch, for those who use the editor at least. :)

To make a round map flat:

edit all units to be wheeled. add a stretch of no wheeled units allowed terrain to seperate the edges.

or

make city un friendly land, water, city unfriendly land. no more flat map problems (all though i sure liked civ2's flat world option)

for alliances, edit culture groups. while not great, if the groups facist hate democracy and communists, and germany is very aggresive, hopefully the different culture groups, units in the wrong country's borders, and aggression will be enough

anyone planning a good star trek or star wars scenario? im a big fan of cold war, world war, imperialism, and the tolkien scenarios

Some clarifications:

1)

This is mostly an interface issue for the editor. When you build a city in the game, you get roads/rails in the city tile. When you place a city in the editor, it does not automatically place roads/rails so that if you later delete the city, it doesn't leave a road behind. When the scenario is played, however, the roads/rails will be there as though you built the city.

2)

This means that the above automatic roads/rails are not placed when you build a city if the terrain type under the city does not allow roads. This is only for mods. You can make, say, mountains get no road bonus which will make roads be unable to be built on mountains. Unmodded, all land terrain has a road bonus.

Mike, thank you for clarifying that. Just had a nap... and a nightmare of having to check each city to make sure I roaded it. Silly of me. . Thanks for the big clarification.

I don't know. Civ 2 had numerous xpacks that followed it. Test of time being one and gold being another. While I agree that the problems are not insurmountable they are still present. I think that Firaxis has done a great job of responding to the concerns of fans. The game is great as it was meant to be, a single player game. PTW will make it a multiplayer game as well. Senerio construction of the level desired requires a good deal of custumization ability. That is mostl iky to much for a patch. Both due to size and due to modification to the game. I see them though making a senerio pack that comes with some senerios, possibly fan made, with a beta version, and that would also include a good edtior that is of a high quality level. To piecemile it in patch form, would both not be functional, and a lot less profitable.

Quick Question:

If I add cities to the map can i edit the size of the cultural boundaries? It wont be good if you place all those cities on the map for a scenario yet they all begin with a culture of 0 and a cultural boundary of just 1 sqaure.

BTW...Great looking patch!!!!!! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: ................ [dance]

Yes, there is a box that you can enter the level of cultural development in the city properties screen. :) Check out the screenshot.

Yes you can select how much culture a city has, look at the Apolyton frontpage. :)
