Other Firaxian: "Nah :mwaha:"
Or the other version: ;)

*B looks at A nervously

A: "We can't tell them, they'll declare war and enact their MPP on us"
B: "So what do we do?"
A: "Lump the thing into PtW ;)"

We can still make useable scenarios, but without the diplomacy states.
Thus, we will still be able to play a WW2 scenario in Civ3, but to make sure the diplo states come out right, we need to play MP. And then again, we must buy PTW.
I'm afraid it will be impossible to make useable scenarios without the option to set diplomacy. For example, my US Civil War scenario... if the North and the South are independent and not at war... the entire scenario is completely worthless. The point has been eliminated, and there would be no reason to play it.

I think what he meand is that it would be multiplayer only scenarios, where you would have to rely on the players to declare war etc to make the diplomacy as it should be.

That's exactly my point. If you can't set diplomacy states, you can still place cities and units. Therefore, we will be able to make scenarios that are playable, but to fully enjoy them, we must buy PTW. They want us to buy PTW when it's out, it's as simple as that.
Why else do they refuse to answer this question? They have answered many other question, so why not this one?

Besides, your Civil War scenario will still be playable. There are only two sides, so you just start the scenario and declare war right away.
It will be much more complicated with e.g. WW2 scenarios where several countries are involved. If you load a scenario and the diplo states are not set, it may happen that England and Germany sign a MPP... To avoid this, we need to be several players playing the scenario. And then we must buy PTW...

Exactly.

I did however not mean that the scenarios will be MP only. They may still be played SP, but to fully enjoy them, we will have to be more people playing it and rely on each other to make the right treaties.

Did Firaxis freeze the location of their ORDERS ICONS so that I'm not always building fortifications and stuff when the ICONS shift? When dealing with a bunch of workers, I just keep on left clicking roads & suddenly if a road is built at the next worker, the ICON becomes BUILD FORTIFICATIONS.

Some help needed for us keyboard-challenged types.

I think if Diplomacy was excluded, that wasn't the reason. Firaxis has admirable PR and support, and I would put that kind of thing far below them.

Besides, Gramphos and his CMT will be able to modify diplomacy in .BICs soon anyways, so it would be pointless... it would be an even more waste than not including the add/delete buttons in the old editor.

Well I know for a fact that the scenarios won't be MP-only, so that rules that out.

Well if that's true (and I have no reason to doubt you) then I'm betting the option to set diplomacy is there.

I just can't see them putting all this work into it and then leaving such a basic thing out. It doesn't make sense. I mean, if you aren't going to put in the option to set diplomacy, why bother with the other things? I think they aren't answering because they like watching you guys wriggle like a worm on a hook. :p :mwaha:

Yes, too bad they didn't fix that. It would speed the game up a lot, because of the graphics redraw and the user hunting for the new location of the buttons. If you ever see a fortification on one of my maps it is because the buttons shifted when I was building roads or railroads.

Yep, that's exactly what I think also. ;) It would be a complete waste of effort to exclude something so important. In the off-chance that it's not included, then there are means of getting around it of course.

Btw, where is Dacono? I live in Aurora, and I don't think I've ever heard of Dacono. :p

I certainly hope you're right. Guess I'm just a little too paranoid.:)

It's north of the metro area. Exit 235 off I-25, between the Lafayette and Longmont exits. If you know where Colorado Nat'l Speedway is, Dacono is about 3 miles NE of the track. Big blue cylindrical water tower in town. You can't miss it. ;)

I am not sure about that. I could see it trying ot get us to buy a post-PTW xpack. The purpose of PTW is multiplayer. The other stuff seems like mostly fluff. I can't really see some saying oh boy dinosaurs, I am going to go and buy that right away. OF course it is good stuff, but the main reason for buying it is MP, hense the name.

Yes, true as far as it goes, BUT- there are many of us who aren't interested in MP. BUT we WILL want to play those WW2 scenarios in Single Player- but its no point if we play, say, England and Germany gets a MPP with the USA- (boy talk about a hopeless case!), or Germany decides to play "Builder" style. Now its true that some people (including me) WILL want to experiment with the "alternate history" WW2 games (eg, Germany never attacks Poland, so England/France/US are still neutral, but instead allies with Finalnd and Turkey to take on the commies). However, I for one WILL want to play out the "real life" version as well, and if we cannot set Diplo status, and we are not having cooperative MP players setting the stage "correctly", then we are out of luck ... IF Diplo status isn't settable. Note that if it IS settable, we could set things "historically" OR play "alternate history" style- VERY cool.

BUT it all hinges on being able to set these things or not. You'd think that it WOULD BE SO, I don't see how it would be a hard thing to do, and it seems so obviously necessary. But Firaxis's silence on the issue is VERY worrisome ...

(ominous music in background ....)

Could they REALLY want us to skirm that much???

Like I said earlier in this post, since they didn't include:

1: Starting diplomacy relationships
2: Flat maps
3: Events of any kind
4: Objectives of any kind

they didn't intend for this patch to be anyting like a SP scenario editor. The "scenarios" they want users to make for their PTW Xpack are just advanced maps for MP games. Perhaps, when you buy the XPack, they will include the ability to make SP scenarios like you could do with Civ2.

This assignment basically deletes the tmp file when you reboot.

Does anyone else notice this behavior?

My machine does the same. I never connected it with Civ3, but there is indeed a wininit.INI in my WinDir with about 15 ~f39a36.tmp entires.

I look forward to this being fixed.

A little off topic, but I was just wondering - I have been working on a world map (256x256). Waiting for the editor to see if I can enhance it before I release it on this forum.

Just curious, is there any chance my map could be included in PTW? Is there enough time?

(Honestly, it is a great map, much work and effort went into it... and I think most game players will be pleased - what a thrill it would be though to have it included in the upcoming release! :D)
