Civ4 GOTM crashes

They are not called anything.config. The files are in your Documents/My Games/[Civ4 product]/folder - one for each Civ4 variant. They are all called civilizationIV.ini.

???mine is called Configuration Settings under the Type field in Explorer. Under properties it's a .ini file. This is the same thing, right? Hope so, because there is no other file and it sure looks like the one I've always edited. Only there's no Specify a Mod Folder listing.

On second look just now, that is really weird. There was no file in the BTS folder. I started the GMinor 108 game today, and now there is a file. And, that one has the Specify a Mod line in it.

But, the vanilla file still has no such line. I wonder if it has to do with the problem I had with the Civ.ini file earlier. I guess it matters little, as I rarely play Vanilla. But, if the .ini file is complete, couldn't that cause problems? Seems odd...how could lines be missing?

That would be correct, because "Configuration Settings" is the description given to files with an extension of ".ini" at the end of them.

Abosolutely.

If you would like to explicitly see the file extension for your filenames, you can "Show File Extensions in Windows 7."

That behaviour is not weird because it is the expected behaviour. You must start up the game version (and perhaps start a new game or load an existing game, then play through a turn) before certain files are automatically created for you. Start up BTS, play a quick game for a couple of turns, then exit BTS. The relevant CivilizationIV.ini file should have been created for you.

Beats me how lines could be missing, but again, I'd say start up Vanilla, play a couple of turns in a game, then exit Vanilla. Doing so should hopefully correct any missing lines in your CivilizationIV.ini file.

My CivilizationIV.ini for Vanilla is found at this location: \My Documents\My Games\CIV4\CivilizationIV.ini. There are definitely two lines in there that say:
; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = 0

I played the whole GOTM 60....and I think I played one turn of a vanilla regular game, so I think everything should be there. Should this .ini file be the same on any Civ 4 computer? I could just copy the file off another one of mine, if so.

I just looked through my copy of the CivilizationIV.ini and I believe that copying the file from a different installation should work fine. Likewise, if you have made a backup copy of the files before uninstalling, you should be able to use the file from your backup copy.

That said, before copying any file over top of the latest version, I'd first back up your a copy of your latest version, before copying over it, so that you will have the option of copying the latest version back over top if things don't work out.

It is possible that you may have set a Custom Screen Height and Custom Screen Width in the CivilizationIV.ini file manually, which might not be portable from computer to computer. However, the screen resolution settings that you set in the game's interface are stored elsewhere, so you would have had to have MANUALLY inputted this info into the other computer's CivilizationIV.ini file at some point. If you have no recollection of making such a change, or many other major changes to that file, then you're unlikely to run into any issues using the version of that file from your other computer.

Nope, the only changes I ever make are to start the game with the HOF mods. So, sounds like, if need be, I can do that. Buffy starts for BTS now, so that's really the main thing, anyhow.

Thanks, again.

One more question. I copied my BTS Replays folder, before I uninstalled. I copied it to the new BTS folder. Yet, in BTS, I have no Hall of Fame listings. Where did I go wrong? Thought this was right....how do I fix?

I'm not sure. I've never actually tried to do that, as I am not in the regular habit of uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

Perhaps if you played a quick game and retired after a turn, it would create the initial file that might be needed with a new installation? I'm totally guessing there. If that doesn't work, then you can at least search for files created within the last day, which should show you any files that may have gotten altered by creating a replay from the retiring process.

It could be that an additional file or folder is required?
