Hello,

I am running Civ IV (BTS) with all recent patches on my MacBook. I visualize Win XP (SP 3) using VMware Fusion. It has a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M chip.

My problem is that just food is displayed on the screen, no hammers and no coins. I saw that this error occurred earlier but was solved in patch 1.08 (see this thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=133141&highlight=food&page=9). It seems that the error was caused by some grafic cards (similar to the one I have). The same error occurs to me on Vanilla and Warlords.

Perhaps someone can help me to fix this, it works perfectly on my normal PC so the software is fine.

I am thankful for every hint or suggestion.

best wishes

Hi, welcome :wavey:

The current version of Civ4 is 1.73. If you are running anything earlier than that then I recommend patching up to this level. 1.08 is *very* old!

I run the Windows versions of Civ4 and its expansions in Parallels virtual machines with WinXP SP3, and have no problems. I don't run VMWare Fusion these days, but I have done so in the past.

You do need to ensure that you have the latest version of DirectX installed in Windows XP. Go to Microsoft's downloads site to get it - Windows Update will not update it automatically as far as I know. Also make sure that you have enabled DirectX support in the virtual machine configuration, and given it adequate graphics memory if this is configurable in Fusion.

Thanks for your help.

I have all three versions of Civ 4 updated to the recent versions (1.74, 2.13, 3.19) (I used the in game updater; can this be the problem?). I updated DirectX to 9.27. I still do not see hammers or coins. My driver is also up-to-date.

Actually I am a bit puzzled about this error :crazyeye:, because it seemed to be solved by patch 1.08, hence it should also cause no problems under 1.74.

I don´t think that the visualization is the problem, the game runs except for this graphical error. So it must have something to do with the video card.

Thanks for your help and MERRY CHRISTMAS :)

I've seen various issues reported by people who have used in-game updates. It may be worth downloading and applying the standalone updaters linked from the home page on this site
