Civ4 patch 1.74 is released

I'm mulling this patch over.... Everything else in the orignal post seems so-so. I would probabaly unmod that Mech Infantry 'fix'.

Anybody know what the Great Person Multiple Missions exploit is? A search didn't find anything.

Edit: Nevermind. Found it.

I think the Mech Infantry fix is a good idea, at least for Marines. I just had my first Space Race victory. I was Washington. I had planned for an endgame massive amphibious attack with my mighty SEALS but by the time I'd made 4 of them they were already obsolete.

America uses Marines/SEALS as well as Mech Infantry. They have different roles (as do the Marines from the SEALS, but that's a different issue).

Since Mech Infantry can intercept aircraft I suppose it makes sense for the SAMs to upgrade to them.

Because it makes a lot more sense to search for a registry value which has no effect on the game rather than actually searching for the game before telling me it doesn't exist? :/

Why should it spend time going through every folder on every one of your hard drives when it could just check in one place where the information is usually always found?

It seems my install shield wizard doesn't want to install the patch when prompted after the download. I tried starting the installation from its location also. What should i do?

P.s. I also have the latest version of directx

Hello,

After downloading update when prompted and trying to run install I get such message:
The setup have detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is installed.
This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed.

I bought game from gamestop.com. Also downloaded lates directx as sugested in this thread.

What should I do in this case?

# Cossack gets only 25% bonus versus mounted
# Can no longer upgrade Marines and SAM Infantry to Mech Infantry
These are the only gameplay changes listed for Vanilla. As already mentioned not very much of a change at all.

With all the trouble people are having I'll stay with 1.61 (at least until I get BTS and/or Warlords which I don't plan on doing any time soon).

Anyway as far as gameplay goes the first change nerfs the Russian cavalry replacement UU somewhat vs other Civs but a +25% bonus will still mean the Ruskies will win most times but they might take some more damage and have to rest up a bit and or have some riflemen support around. Not much of a big deal.

I'm struggling to work out exactly what the point of the second change is?

This change seems to make Marines and SAM types more specialist units vs bog standard draftable infantry. The Humans Marine strike force is going to be marginalised into a true Amphibious role when Mech Inf come about instead of upgrading to them whilst the AI will be stuck with all its SAM Infantry that it tends to over emphasise.

Making SAM Infantry non-upgradable will make it easier for the human at higher difficulites as the AI builds too many of these. With their cheap upgrades on higher levels the AI SAM Infantry currently become Mech Inf in one turn which kind of balances the Human's veteran Marines when they upgrade.

Unless the emphasis the AI places on SAM Infantry vs ordinary Infantry has been changed like only build them when the opponent has an air force this is going to end up as swings and roundabouts. I don't play multiplayer but perhaps the change is more significant there or is this simply bringing it into line with Warlords and/or BTS because they can?

the game itself is more buggy, im see lots of animation bugs now!
before i never got any bug ever!

Okay for some reason my computed can't install this patch. It didn't work when it automatically started to download and it didn't work when I used the method in the original post. Does anybody have any guess why it wouldn't let me download it? For the record, I don't have it installed already

mine did the same thing as previous post. Help!!! I also uninstalled the game and tryed to reinstall it to make a difference but now i can't even install it.

so i called the support line and heres what they told me to do and it worked:

1. Create a new user account as an adminstrater (temporarily)
2. Go into this new account and install civilization again if u uninstalled it -or- if u didn't, install the patch.
3. After you are done delete this user account and the patch will be installed on your user account.
4. he said i had a corrupted file that caused me to not be able to install the patch.

Hope this helps.

I belive in Windows/system or Windows/system32.

I did so - the game start to load necessary data ( splash windows displayed ) but ... it display at the end something like "Coulnd't load shared libraries ... ". Why ?

Regards

how do I create a new user account?

And when you say to install civilization, does that mean I have to try to install BtS on THAT account?

The cannot load shader libraries is because of another directx file that needs to be upgraded.. this is not a new file like the _32 one, but an upgrade to an existing old file (and I dont know which one)

Holy crap... dunno if it's just me but I have the feeling the patch tweaked the vanilla AI big time. Just had a helluva time on noble! oO

Is it better to reinstall the game before applying the patch? I did it for the previous patch and the game was running better than patching without reinstall.

Yea i loaded the dll file and put it in system32, but now i get error loading shader libraries, anyone help please?

Is it worth it to install this Civ IV patch if I have just recently installed BTS (and the newest BTS patch)?

nice, a resolution for ym widescreen lap too :=)
