CivBE discount 20% @ GMG

If you get the game anywhere except Steam, how smoothly is it likely to set up in Steam? I've had problems importing games to my Steam Library in the past. (I'm paranoid enough to suspect that those problems may well have been deliberate for NOT having purchased through Steam.)

And I'm confused on all the different pre-order deals flying around:

Bonus maps, full price ($49.99) @Steam -- http://store.steampowered.com/app/65980/
Free maps + $5 credit @ Amazon -- http://n4g.com/news/1573346/best-civilization-beyond-earth-pre-order-deal-get-free-map-pack-5-credit
Free maps + 20% off at GMG -- http://www.siliconera.com/2014/07/17/civilization-beyond-earth-coupon/
And free maps + 25% off also at GMG -- http://www.dealzon.com/deals/civilization-beyond-earth

I never even heard of GMG before this. I've barely grokked GOG!

When i bought my box of Civ5 there was the CD and a steam code. GMG also gives you a steam code (but i think no box). I haven't used GMG yet, but i'm just pissed enough at 50$ games costing 50€ on steam to consider ordering elsewhere.

Because you buy an original Steam code, there should be no problem to activate this code in Steam. They only possible problems I know of are country limited Steam codes or language limited Steam codes. You are on the safe side if you buy Steam codes from well-known sellers as GMG, and you should always check the product page to show your language as supported in the game.

Cool, GMG pre-order just saved me 12 bucks, thanks all! :)

Like ColdFever said, you get a steam code and just enter it, so it should be pretty smooth. *But* that does not mean that you'll be able to get the code and install the game exactly at midnight or even in the few hours after release.

Just pointing that out because a lot of people were mad that they couldn't play BNW on release night/morning (because they took off from work that day or whatever). I'm guessing pre-ordering directly from Steam is your best bet if you want to do that.

Other than that, I think GMG is fine. They had a deal on BNW, and a lot of people bought from there (myself included). I think you get a tiny bit of credit towards future purchases, too.

On average, those buying GMG codes have had what kind of waits to install a new game on release day? Anyone?

For BNW, the keys were emailed some time in the early morning, so about 5 hours after official release?

Yes, definitely not Civ 6, glad you caught that.

Just a heads up for EU gamers to this site:

http://www.muve.cz/digital/strategie/sid-meier-s-civilization-beyond-earth-pc-digital/1774

It's a czech company. I've read through their business details and they're located and registered in Prague, so they'll be subject to EU laws and not selling on dodgy keys.

I've not used them yet, so I can't vouch for them personally. TBH, I can still get a hard copy of the game for 5 dollars lower than this digital download price but for those of you, not in CZ this might be a useful site.

The only thing I can't guarantee is that the game is region-locked - although, it's an EU company, selling a key i the EU so I imagine any locking will include all EU countries by nature of EU law. HOwever they have a contact email and if in doubt, I suggest emailing them and asking.

I've only used GMG once before for Stick of Truth (they were also doing a pre-order discount deal). I did get my key on the same day as release, but I did not get the pre-order bonus which I should've received. The pre-order even said on GMG that all codes preordered on GMG would give pre-order content.

I didn't contest it for Stick of Truth because the pre-order bonus was basically worthless (I just wanted the discount), but for BE I would at least want to make sure I get the maps if I do pre-order.

So I can say that GMG seems okay from my experience, but you may want to reconsider in case the pre-order maps are that important to you, because you might not get what you asked for.

I've purchased lots of Steam codes from other places, though CivBE is my first GMG purchase. It's trivial to do; the only thing you'll miss out on is that if you preordered through Steam directly it would pre download so you can begin playing immediately at launch; this way you need to wait for the code to arrive in your email and then wait for the download to complete.

A confession: I canx my GMG preorder once I found out I probably could not pre-load like with a purchase directly from Steam. Lost out on the $12 discount because I'm basically an impatient kid at heart. :D

Supposedly GMG is offering a 25% discount for a pre-purchase of CBE until the 19th. However, none of the codes posted here are being accepted. Where is a buyer supposed to go to initially get a valid code?
