CivDip XVI: Clash of the Titans

I have all the orders but two sets for France (from Stapel and The_Newbie). Should I go with the original player or the replacement  ?

I would ask Stapel what he thinks. If he was really, really interested, then it would be a judgement call on your part as to what the communication problem was. If, however, Stapel is willing to step aside, then go with the original player. Stapel is usually good for making judgement calls on the games he replaces people in.

Glad to see you back Sheep.

When will we have results and when are the next orders due?

Russia won't be back until after the weekend...

I am, indeed, back on Sunday. Both much and little seems to have happened in my abscence. Re-sending orders presently.

After the Spring was over (literally) the moves are resolved:

Austrian News: The Archduke of Austria has refortified his borders with a move to Galicia with the army previously occuping Vienna. The Austrian flag has also been raised over Tirane, Albania. Finally, The strategic supply center of Belograd, Serbia, has been seized, thus securing a hopeful increase of the forces of Austria.

British News: The British navy is off again, securing the key naval sector of the North Sea, and the less important Norweigan Sea. The British Marine regiment has also moved to Yorkshire, and will most likely play a key role in amphibious assults next fall.

French News: The French armed forces have seized control of Madrid, Spain, and raised their flag while also fortifying Burgundy with another army. The French navy heads out to sea, and will most likely finish the occupation of Iberia.

German News: The German armies are on the march, occupying the Ruhr, and important defense position, and relocating their Berlin force to Kiel. The German High Seas Fleet has moved into Copenhagen, and now threatens Sweden.

Italian News: The Italian Mediteranean Fleet is off into the Ioanian, and Naples is reoccupied with an army from Rome. Meanwhile, an army from Venice has ocupied the Austrian territory of Tyrolia! Will this mean war???

Russian News: Russia might be considered the most aggressive power now. He hasn't invaded anyone yet, but by George (BTW I am not British) he might soon. His moves from Moscow and Warsaw to Sevestapol and Ukarine, respectivley, and the Sevestapol fleet moving to the Black Sea, look aggressive to both Austria and Turkey. In the North, the Russian Baltic Fleet moves into the Gulf of Botnia, hoping to get into Sweden.

Turkish News: The Ottoman Janissaries have moved out of Constantinople and into Sofia, Bulgaria, securing the country for Turkey. Meanwhile, the Turkish Black Sea Fleet moves into the Sea of Marmarra, and the army in Smyrna is the only unit that remains in its home province.

As the pieces of armies and fleets move around the board, the future of Europe is still not clear. But one cannot look ahead. In these first opening turns, will one major power sprout from the confines of chaotic Europe?

Here is your map, leaders. Plan your strategies, and have your armies and fleets ready to move by...

Since I haven't recieved any orders yet (not rushing you, just saying) I will post my request:

Please have orders with the subject as: Diplomacy Orders Fall 1901 - France (For example. So change nation name and date as neccessary.)

If you do not like the format of the resolution I am using, speak up! That counts for anything you wish for me to change related to the game...

Austrian News: The Arch-Duke has taken control of Greece
with a joint assault of his navy and ground forces. Also, the
force in Galicia has linked up with and supported the Russian
one in Ukarine and both made the assault into Rumania.

English News: English Royal Marines have made a assault
on Norway with Naval Support. Meanwhile, the Norweigan
Fleet moves onto the Barents Sea...could this be a threat to
Russia?

French News: The French navy has entered Lisbon, raising
the French flag like Napoleon a century ago. The army in
Spain is crushing resistance. Meanwhile the French in
Burgundy has invaded Munich with support of Italians in
Tyrolia.

German News: The Army in Kiel has invaded Holland with
great success. The Fleet, however, lies dorment in Denmark.
However, when the Army in Ruhr moved back into Munich, it
was startled when he saw the armies of Italy and France there!
Munich fell, but the German still gets a build!

Italian News: The Army in Naples, with the help of the Navy
in the Ionian, assaulted Tunis, and captured it. The army in
Tyrolia, linking up with the French army in Burgundy, attacked
Munich successfully.

Russian Moves: The Fleet in the Gulf of Bothnia has attacked
Stockholm, forcing the garrison to surrender. The army in
Ukarine, with help of the army in Galicia, attacked Rumania.
The Fleet in the Black Sea gave support to a force of Russians
moving into Armenia, on Turkish soil.

Turkish Moves: The Army in Sofia remained dorment this turn,
while the army in Smyrna refortified into Ankara. The Fleet in
Constantinople moved into the Aegan.

Gamemaster's Take: (Note: This is totally opinion, from spectation, and not influenced by any nation) I think we have a French - Italian Alliance starting up. Meanwhile, I also see an Austrian - Russian Coalition forming. Turkey and Germany are besieged from all sides, but with some careful military planning, negotiation, or just plain luck they might force out the attackers. England is doing well, possibly due to the Second Franco - Prussian war. Italy is also doing well, getting France as an ally and eliminating one threat (the other is Austria). Russia and began a relentless assault on Ottoman Turkey, thus giving Germany breathing space, and England room in Scandinavia. Austria has gotten two centers and is in a great position, militarily and diplomatically. Good luck, generals and statesmen!

Battle of Munich, October 23-25, 1901.

The Battle of Munich was the combined assault of French and Italians against the Germans at one of their key Supply Centers. The forces were:

Italians: 55,000 Infantry, 2000 cavalry, 25 artillery pieces.

French: 69,000 infantry, 2500 cavalry, 30 artillery pieces.

Germans: 65,000 infantry, 1500 cavalry, 33 artillery pieces.

The battle began at a ford about 15 miles from Munich on the 23rd. The French march began at dawn to occupy to ford, but the Germans got their first, resulting in a French assault and close quarter fighting (picture 1). Meanwhile, a French column reached the outskirts of Munich (picture 2) but a German regiment held them at bay across the river (picture 2, upper left corner). The Germans were thus holding Munich, but the Italians finally arrived, assaulting the Germans holding the ford from behind (picture 3). The Germans were in disarray, and the French and Italians began the siege of Munich, defended by 3000 Germans. On the 25th, they assaulted Munich, easily capturing the city. However, the main German force escaped into the Ruhr, and was not destroyed in the battle or captured in Munich.

Losses:

Italians: 120 killed, 500 wounded, 50 missing.
French: 600 killed, 1000 wounded, 200 missing.
Germans: 800 killed, 1400 wounded, 300 missing, 2000 captured.
