Civil Service from a GP - no more?

I was always a fan of using the Oracle for CoL, then using the prophet that it generates for CS.

The problem is, lately my GPs want to research Masonry. Is this something that was changed in a recent patch? I thought that if you skipped Masonry then the GP would go for CS.

Actually, changed with the 2.08 patch for Warlords, I believe. The other significant change is that CS now requires Math.

GP will Lightbulb CoL/CS if you have theology but not monarchy. Oracle Theo, research CoL+Math, Lightbulb CS. The problems are:
You need to grab meditation or poly (whichever you didnt research to get priesthood) before lightbulb Theo, this slows oracle finish.

You have to do math and CoL; perhaps math before CoL because someone will beat you to CoL anyway (preventing a religious near-monopoly) and because you need math for chopping power before CoL for courthouses.

2nd GP shrine or CS
3rd GP shrine?
4th GP ?
5th GP Profit
It gets a little repeditive.

You would have to run scientists after the 3rd GP and have a seperate pure scientist city, to avoid death_by_profit (isn't that kind of ironic).

I as far as I can tell, it doesn't work. The preferred GP/Lightbulb script, I believe, is GS based. Research CS, lighbulb philo, -> liberal, ftw.

Yep, reorganized order or lightbulbing to include masonry so you can't skip the whole religious tree and jump straight to Civil service.

To make it harder, Civil Service also now requires mathematics.

Great Scientists have a more useful lightbulb tree... helps beeline for printing press and liberalism as a matter of fact.

Using the GP to Lightbulb CS Takes too long now that, Mansonry Is higher in the Tech Preference. You might as well Pop a GS and build an Academy in your Capital an Research CS normally which is alot faster.

In order to get CS now, you have to clear all the religious techs out of the way. If you oracle to CoL and use the 1st prophet on theology, the 2nd one will give CS.
