Civil War scenario now entering beta testing

Up now on the mod hub under Industrial or Other scenarios, play as either the Union, or the Confederacy. Scroll down for screenshots.

Description - The North and South are at war. With capitals very close together will the war focus on the well defended Virginia border, or is another route more effective?

*********** Current version beta 5(3/11/2011) *Tested and working, Zip file has been posted here-> http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=16743 *******************

The scenario includes 3 xml files to keep techs coming slowly, give defensive building boosts, and give 12 turns per year.

The only route to victory is to capture the enemy capital, Washington or Richmond. These locations are only three plots apart so crank the difficulty if you are a master of conquest. Enjoy everybody!

I am sorry for having to ask, but can you give instructions on how to install this scenario. Do I put it in with the dlc scenarios?

I figured it out and started playing the map looks real good. As the game goes on, I'll relate how I feel about it. So far so good though. Oh, there was one question I had, how many turns in a year? How did you change the turns?

Ok, I have played for awhile. I am in 1862. There needs to be a state of permanent war between the Union and Confederates. There was a bug that just occurred, a screen that comes up when you attack a city popped up and got stuck after I hit the end of turn button. No CTD, but the game was stuck.

1.) The South has to be much weaker, it is too close to the North in manufacturing capability.

2.) The North should have a far larger navy, at the beginning give them some more frigates.

The South is fine with a few caravels at the outset, but make it so it takes longer for them to manufacture ironclads. The North should have much higher production and produce ironclads faster.

3.) You could add two insignificant civs, Canada and Mexico, with one city each. Perhaps they could be listed using permanent peace so they never declare. Although, they could maybe have a few cities in their territory, or either side could barter with them, you could give them a generous amount of cash for example, and few luxury resources. I thought this may be a good idea, not sure if it feasible though, just a thought.

4.) Give each the South and the North each at least one cannon. They did have cannon, even in 1860. You could also start the war at the right time April 12th, 1861, though its a small matter, this s just a game. All in all though it is fun and keeps you busy when playing. :)

maybe put the Confederate capital at Birmingham. It was the original capital. Or maybe Vicksburg, which had capital importance in the war.

You might be able to keep the Union capital at Washington, or maybe in Philadelphia, which was the orginal capital until it was taken by Brits

(If you haven't guessed: I'm a history buff.:D)

I was gonna say the same thing, but instead I'll just agree with you. I would definitely move the Confederate capital to Birmingham, since technically having it in Richmond would be historically inaccurate anyway. If there is still a problem with the Union capital being near the border, it could be moved as well, though if the union has the industrial advantage that it did IRL, a capital right on the border might manage to keep things possible for the south.

I used this mod at a time killer for the past week, and decided to play by total-kill rules, capturing every rebel city on the map as I went. Just a few things I noticed in my game:

1) a few typoes here and there - Pittsburg (with no "H") or Greensbora for example.
2) despite Monterrey having the Great Wall, Davis reaped the benefits. My rifles could only travel one tile over flat grassland and plains, and cavalry could only travel two.
3) disabling settlers would be a good idea. Seeing Rome, Antium, Cumae etc. pop up all over the south was a little immersion-breaking, and had I played as the South, seeing L.A., Las Vegas, Albuquerque etc. appear in Ohio and Missouri would have been equally awkward.

Otherwise, great work. The game was great - I had a few frigate battles in the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers, and my forces' march through Tennessee to Atlanta to Savanah felt truly epic. Sherman would be proud. However, I wound up with Robert E. Lee being born in Boston for my efforts. :crazyeye:

A unique unit or two for each side would be great, but as a fairly simple mod with a fairly simple premise, I think it's perfect as is. Great work.

maybe you could even have the scenario so if you achieve more military successes, if you're the South, Maryland or Kentucky would secede, such as Genghis Khan's ability

I am having an issue, the game crashes when I advance to the next turn (the first turn in the game) every time. I have loaded the proper scenario and everything. Really exited to play.
