Civilization 4 delayed? The Take2 trouble

Wow, you believe Rockstar's version. From what I hear, all of the content (not most, all) is right there on every disk and it isn't at all hard to turn on. Any halfway competent hacker would find it.

Eh... They locked the content. You have to go out and download a mod which unlocks it. So, no one can get to it unless actively trying to get to it. If they are actively trying to get to it, they're probably old enough to view the content anyway. The way I see it, most kids aren't smart enough to get to the content. They would have to visit some game website, read an article about it, go out and search for the mod, download it, install it, run it, then complete all the missions’ necessary to view it. So, it stands to reason that most of the people who did view this content are old enough to view it anyway.

Besides, this whole thing is ridiculous anyway. The rating went to 17 to 18, give me a break. 17 year olds are old enough to view the content on the mod; the people who changed the rating know this (or at least I hope they do. They seriously need a reality check if they think 17 year olds aren’t old enough to play the game.) They changed the rating not because they didn’t want 17 year olds to get the game, but because they didn’t want kids to get the game. I really don’t see how much this will do, if a parent is stupid enough to buy a game for a kid with a hooker, guns, a drive by, gambling, and a police helicopter all on the front cover, I don’t know how much adding the letters AO will do.

The ironic thing about all of this is that most people would not even know about this mod if these god damn people wouldn't make such a big deal about it.

But why didn't they remove the content? (Evil rumor alert (with no basis in truth) - they were planning on releasing this mod themselves).

Why didn't they romove the content? Read what I wrote before...

edit: As for people saying Rockstar is silly and irresponsible putting content like this in game, here is what happens. In every game, there’s a lot of content that game developers make that doesn't make the game, for whatever reason. This content probably didn't make the game because they realized it was too edgy. Just simply taking this content out of the game isn't as easy as it sounds however. They would have had to go through what could be 5 thousand plus lines of code to remove something or just simply disable the code to access the content. So, instead of going through what could be 5 thousand plus lines of code and having to delay the game, they just simply disabled the code. A lot of game companies do this, its pretty common.

Just to elaborate a bit further, most developers are lucky to finish a game a day ahead of schedule. Removing what could be 5 thousand plus lines of code would have delayed the game.

It would be like, in your book report or something, you made references to the wrong item. Intead of finding the item and deleting it, they just deleted the references.

I'm a developer and I think that if they wanted to it would have been easy.
It's not like they were adding code, but rather removing it. That's always easier. In any case, since it was a mini-game, I'd assume that the code would be modularized and could be chopped out in one fell swoop. (All the mini-games I've worked on were). In addition, I'm pretty sure they could have fairly easily removed the art assets.

It may have delayed the game by a day and saved their publisher $50M.

personaly i would rather my kid(hypothetical) to see sex..then him to see constant murder. just my opinion.

I would rather my kid traffic drugs actually. :mischief:

I think they will sell more copies of the game now, and the timing of this couldn't have been better for Rockstar. This is better than having to develop another expansion pack.

CivIV shouldn't be impacted by this.

Believe it or not, (almost) everybody who are alive on earth and who was alive on earth in the past was alive because two (at least) people made sex. Sex is not something intrinsically bad, unlike murder of drug trafficing.

As I said many times, USA is a great country, but I think they go beyond the reasonable when they have to deal with sex in the media. Other countries, are more permissibe and they teach sexuallity in schools, and therefore, they have less unwanted teenage pregnancies than in the USA, e. g. The Nedderlands.

It is the same with alcohol, it is too restrictive, and as a consequence, there is more alcoholism in USA than in Europe, and I can assure that, I have lived in the two continents.

CIV III have grapes, and CIV IV have wineries, I hope they don't ban the game for that. (Just joking, I didn't wanted to be banned because I was too way off topic ;) )
