[Civ2] Civilization II MGE User Interface Additions (CIV2UIA)

Hey, I've had a recurrent crashing issue based on one particular world map premade world, where the game crashes after a certain number of turns. I've attached a save file that should crash as soon as the turn passes. I can try and log more crashed save files if needed - I kept accidentally overwriting them with other autosaves.
The tech stagnation should be set to 126 instead of 10, if that's a relevant concern (yes I am one of those people).

I'll try playing on a different premade world for now, and see if that decides it likes to crash also.

EDIT: Added another save file that should crash right after you hit enter.
Yes, I found the error. It is Units limit patch again. There will be another hotfix release soon. For now you can continue playing without Units limit patch.

Error: Wrong size of game exe file. Game version Multiplayer Gold Edition 5.4.0f (Patch 3) supported only.
Any clue what caused this?
Only version Multiplayer Gold Edition 5.4.0f (Patch 3) is supported (CIV2.EXE file size should be 2489344 bytes, preferably unmodified).
You can see version of your game at Menu - Game- Game options. If it is not 5.4.0f, then to use Civ2UIA, you have the option to upgrade it with update pack from download section of CF.

New version 1.21.3 (build 2751).
FIX: PatchUnitsLimit: Crash with this option due to overlapping of patching addresses between different patches. To diagnose such intersections in the future, a MemWatchDog module has been added.
FIX: PatchResetEngineersOrder: With this setting turned OFF, the original algorithm was broken, which led to an overestimation of the engineer's work counter when joined to another worker. The error has been present since 1.16. I hope no one has taken advantage of this or suffered from it.

Any clue what caused this? I used the patch here: https://github.com/FoxAhead/Civilization-II-64-bit-Editbox-Patcher/releases

To get the game to even work. Wondering if this stops me from running the patch from this thread
You're not trying to use it with Test of Time are you Suede? As I know you're a big ToT guy... for that it's ToTPP. Otherwise if it is MGE then yeah you just need the patch Fox links you to.

No, hahah, I'm trying to finally get footage for Civ 2 in its classic form. So Civ 2 MPG
Good man.. glad some of my pestering on your channel worked. I look forward to seeing your video! :) My own Civ2 MGE tour is in the final stages of editing now.. after all these years lol.

Ahh well yup, the official patch should do the trick then. Then Civ2UIA should work fine as it'll definitely give you plenty to talk about in the video with all it's lovely GUI additions.
.

After clicking Play I'm presented with the message: "Error: ReadProcessMemory: 5" and nothing happens.
the search gives the result:
Error 5 (ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED) when using the ReadProcessMemory function means that the program does not have sufficient rights to open the process, even to read

try to launch the game and patch from the folder where you have the necessary access rights.

Hey FoxAhead! Can't remember if I told you about it, but we're working on a fully open source Civ 2 clone that might be better for your mod to run on, or include your improvements into directly! https://github.com/axx0/Civ2-clone

Full disclosure, I've been working on AI artwork to replace all the original copyrighted material.

Also, why no discussion option on the github? Just curious. Love your work bro! Best game ever is even better with your interface upgrades!

Oh also, it would be cool to have an option to disable global warming, since it never really happened in real life. Unlike our predictions from the 90s. :D

Moderator Action: @FoxAhead OP restored - I hope. Yours was one of the oldest threads impacted so will very hard to fully reproduce the discussion. I will try to do that with time. I hope this is the right location..I had to use google magic to figure out the subforum, and thread title. Please PM me with issues. Hopefully I can at least get more recent posts moved over, but the issue is identifying them. Cheers

Moderator Action: Also, I am not sure if you had the resource stored on site here. If so, please check to see if it is still here. It may likely have to be recreated. Let me know if you need assistance with that and getting the discussion attached to it. Also, check the links in your sig, as some may be broken

The repair bot got most things but I've manually gathered the missing 3 pages of posts using various tricks and moved them back into here. I think it's pretty much all here now *fingers crossed* :)
Please note that because this is technically a new thread with a new ID your old links, bookmarks and thread watch (that gives you notifications) are gone and won't work. You will need to re-watch it (button in top right corner of thread or just post here again if you haven't already to auto follow) to get thread notifications again.

Music query here. I have Civ2 up and running on Windows 11 with the Civ2UIA patch (thank you for making it possible!). This allows the music to be played from my Civilization Chronicles disc, but the music there is the MGE and scenarios music, not the classic soundtrack, so I end up getting the X-Com track and other scenario music in the midst of antiquity: a bit jarring! So, I'm trying to figure out the instructions for playing the correct tracks from my MUSIC folder, but am failing somewhere along the way. Here is what I'm doing:
1. Ensured that there are 9 mp3 tracks, labelled "TRACK01", "TRACK02", and so on in a folder called MUSIC in my root Civ2 directory.
2. Selected "disable CD check" in the Civ2UIA launcher options, ensuring that my CD is *not* in the drive (if it is, it plays tracks from the CD even when the CD check is disabled).
3. On loading my game (or starting a new game), the startup video and other sound effects work fine. But I get no music. The Game > Pick Music menu shows 9 tracks, but picking any of them does nothing and just closes the dialog boxes.

What steps am I missing to make the music play?

EDIT: never mind. For whatever reason, it was the mp3s I had that something wasn't liking. Once I converted them to .wav (Windows ACM, 44.1 kHz, 4 bit stereo), it just worked. So pleased I'm all set! Music and video all working.

After not touching any civ game for years, I had the itch to play civ2 again, and got it running with this. I want to give FoxAhead and the others who contributed stuff to this a big thank you. I did have a question though - can you get wonder movies and the council, etc. to show up with this addon? My install went like this: Load a virtual MGE disc via a .CUE file. Run setup.exe as admin. Apply the last MGE update patch. Put the CIV2UIA improvements stuff in the MGE folder. Run, and enable/install DirectPlay. Restart the CIV2UIA program - it seems to run great, so far. So, I was wondering - if I keep the .CUE file loaded as a virtual drive will the program use it for the movies, if such are enabled? And as far as codecs go, I have an Indeo 4.5xxxx codec installed, is that good, or do I have to get another codec pack from somewhere and install it? if so, from where? I was not able to find any clear instructions about all this while browsing different threads. Running on Win10.

Again, great job on all these improvements!

Game prioritize local videos - they are searched first, and if there are none, it searches on CD. If you want videos without CD, then you can copy VIDEO folder in Civ2 folder.
Indeo codecs should be present in the system. They are just disabled for security reasons (have been identified as having vulnerabilities). To play Civ2 videos you have to enable them back (you need Indeo 4). The easiest and most clear way to do this is to use the Codec Tweak Tool as described here:
