As the title implies, how does Civilization (III) look in high resolutions? Right now I play in 1024x768 and am quite satisfied with the view. I've read about the KeepRes = 1 option in the .ini file, but once you apply that, how does it look?

For example, if I played in 1920 x 1200, would I see more of the map at once or would it be the same with more detail? Really I don't want to see more of the map at once; if I did I'd play in zoomed-out mode.

The same question applies to Civilization IV, but with less importance since I can zoom in to a crazy level. More importantly for CivIV is, what is the highest resolution (1280x1024 is the highest I see, but that's my monitor's max)?

Also, has anyone played Civ with the psuedo-NumPad some laptops have (890 = 789, UIO = 456, JKL = 123)? I'm surprised how dependent I've become on the NumPad for moving units short distances (probably wouldn't be a deal-breaker to not have one for; never use it for any non-Civ purposes)!

Answers will help determine which resolution to get in a new laptop.

I play on 1280x800 and use the keepres=1 thing. It's pretty cool because you can see much more of the game, and it doesn't look distorted. I advice you to do the same.

I play at 1440, not really noticed that much of a change. I only do it becasue that is the default setting on my monitor. If I play games lower, then it popups an alert and wants to have me change the values.

I use the keepres as well.

OK, I tried that KeepRes=1 after I had set my monitor to 1280x960, and the main game screen looked OK, not too much of a difference. I think I could get used to it fairly easily. Only problem was the other screens (main menu, advisors, F11, etc.) still displayed in 1024x768. 1440 ought to be OK, but I don't think I'd want to have 1920x1200. vmxa, how's 1024x768 look on a monitor with a 1440 default? If it's not too grainy, I'd probably use that over a 1920 default.

I play at 1920x1200 and I love it, but then I don't like the look of the screen when it's scaled to non-native resolution.
