Damn, that's pretty swood ;)

But I haven't really seen Hiram around recently, so I don't know where I'd get the alpha...

What are you lot's opinions on the design, by the way?

It gets an ayyyyt/10 from me. :p

But actually, I think it's pretty cool. I would however suggest buffing the Nirus, since it might be pretty rare to have 3 units of the same banner all in the same place. Because of that the double shot wouldn't be very accessible, and simply giving it a zone of control bonus might not be the most useful for a unit type that typically finds a tile to stay in and fires away.

Of course when I make this criticism I am making the assumption that the units have to be the same banner as the Niru. If this is not the case, then it's much better, as Green Standards may provide you with more controlled means of amassing similar banner types to the point where it'd actually be feasible to have a few different pairs of similar banner types each following a Niru. Not sure if that makes historical sense though.

This okay?

Yeah, the Niru could do with a buff, actually. You were correct in your assumption. I was just worried that anything that could get Chu-Ko-Nu powers would need to be nerfed to some extent :p

Just need to think of a good thing for them...

I personally prefer the original more saturated yellow, but both are fine really.

@GPuzzle: Marius looks pretty nice and simple, although why don't you just make the Legion get a straight up great bonus from GGs? For Julius, what would "winning battles" mean specifically? Is there like a threshold of kills you need to trigger the WLTKD? The second half of the UA is quite nice though. The Castrum is also pretty simple but effective. I like how it's built automatically in conquered cities. I think Augustus needs to be fleshed out more though. The concept's are nice, but they seem too weak. Maybe bring another trigger for a production bonus in the capital or allow the Praetor to create better cities. Perhaps the Praetor could turn barbarian encampments into Roman cities that start with higher population, some populations, and some units? Then you could also tie the production bonus in the capital with the population of the city settled/conquered so the bonus is a bit more impactful. The Arena could definitely use more of a buff though.

As for the Legion, I just find it more interesting gameplay wise.

For Julius, it's literally defeating any unit. WLTKD length on that one is very smal, though.

Production for Augustus is actually pretty high - it's based on the Capital's production times a bunch of modifiers, and the Arena... well, it's +1 Happiness in the Capital for every Arena in the empire. Also I don't wanna deal with Barbarian Encampments, dealing with those for Nix's Wends is already driving me nuts. And the Praetor's cities starting with an extra Citizen may be very good indeed.

The Manchu
Leader: Nurhaci
Capital: Mukden?
Start Bias: Plains
Cul Div: Steppe
Civ IV Traits: Aggressive/Imperialistic
Religion: Tengriism or Samanism?
Icon: Yo yo yo

UA: Eight Banners
Units are randomly assigned one of eight Banners upon their construction. Units receive additional Combat Strength and Movement when adjacent to a unit of the same Banner.

UU: Green Standard
Unlike the Musketman, which it replaces, the Green Standard is cheaper to construct in cities with a Courthouse. In addition, it has a chance of converting enemy units it defeats, which gain the same Banner as them.

UU: Niru
Slightly cheaper than the Crossbowman, which it replaces, the Niru has the ability to indirect fire. Additionally, it may attack twice per turn if stationed next to at least two units which share its banner.

I wouldn't use Niru as one of the uniques, as it should be one of the promotions from the 8 Banner system. I'd use Yung instead, which was the name for the Village Levies.

"[Niru] was originally the Manchu name for a hunting party, which would be armed with bows and arrows."

I feel like a Manchu civ with 0 references to cavalry is a bit odd, but the 8 banner thing is still very cool!

I could change the Niru to the Banner Cavalry, but I'm pretty fond of the current design...

Yeah a Manchu state without cav is wierd, but I like the design as well! I also agree with Mobfire about getting Niru's under the same banner next to each other and then staying alive! Nice but unlikely, also who's up for a challenge? Create a civ with a unique replacement for the Fort.

Speaking of challenged I just submitted my civ for the daily mechanic challenge and I'm going to share it here, mechanic was chopping forest/jungles for xp.

The Hallstatt Culture

UA: The Hallstatt Hillforts
Chopping down forest/jungles gives more :c5production: Production in cities than normal and it also gives all units in or around that city an experience boost. Salt, iron and hill resources provide double quantity.

UB: Iron Smith (Forge Replacement)
+15% :c5production: Production towards land units, +2 :c5production: Production on iron resources, +10% experience for land units and is available at iron working, requires a nearby source of iron.

UI: Hillfort
Can only be built on hills, forest and jungles. +25% :c5strength: defence, claims surrounding tiles and the Hillfort it self provide +2 :c5food: Food, :c5gold: Gold, :c5production: Production and :c5culture: Culture. Unlocked at Masonry.

If people can come up with a good Banner Cavalry design that could easily and comfortably replace the Niru, I'd be glad to hear it.

One thing though, I'm still very fond of the old Manchu icon I did, but if the new one is more popular I guess I'll have to bend my will. What do you guys think, flag or flower?

This is heinously strong.

The flag seems more 'Manchu' from what I know, though there's always the icon firaxis used for the Imjin scenario, no? Besides, the black background of the flower icon is a bit dodgy since it can be tough to tell from city states in the minimap/tactical mode.

As for replacing the Niru with a cavalry unit why not just give it the exact same effect but make it replace the knight or lancer? Seems easy enough.
