Civilization V announced

Oh...my...God! I think I had an accident right now when I went IGN before here! :) Either that or some sort arousal! It looks GORGEOUS!

The graphics actually look a little strange to me.. the city buildings are boxy, the farms are just squares, and I see what they're going for with the big armies, but the way they did it doesn't come off good. It would have also been more visually appealing if the terrain was more defined.. ie the mountain peaks looked taller.

But I see they have swamp terrain now!

Here we go...we know next to nothing and have a few early screens, let the internet criticism commence!!! :D

what did you expect? triangle-shaped farms?

No I'm just saying there's no finesse in how they look, .. just like how when I say the city buildings are boxy I don't expect them to be spherical :/

Anyway, I'm not trying to be critical, I'm just giving my impressions. The horses also look awfully large in comparison to everything else.

Most people aren't critical... And I'm just saying it looks a little strange.. thats my opinion.. hopefully it will look better in the real game

Right Right I feel you. My comment wasn't so much directly at you, so much as an observation that people on the internet, especially in forum communities, love to :):):):):) no matter what they're presented with. </soapbox>

That is a screenshot from Civ:revolution... but those features might be in CiV as well

This picture here basically states flatly that the Hagia Sophia will be in the game....awesome! I hope to see the glass tower of Nanjing too, a rather unknown wonder. I'm really just hoping to see Petra and the Glass Tower, in addition. Anyway, hurrah! CivV!

The city buildings doesn't look appealing at all, but that really only shows that the game is a few months away :)

I'm sure that in the intervening period between now and the game's release, most things that look a little dodgy will be polished up.

That awesome, great and fantastic!!!,

Anyway it just made me think that the last suggestions (some good ones) won't be implemented...

So let's trust Sid's perception (what rarely disappoint us)

yes there will be alot of polishing, the way they made civ4 was to make a basic working game, then try out new ideas and graphics in actual gameplay so the game kind of evolves. That means most graphical advancements were made nearer to the end, they probably did the same here.

I am interested in the nukes, I had a few problems with them, I wonder if they changed them?

This autumn already? Following the development of Starcraft 2 really made me accustomed to long waits, it seems.

Oh yeah, artwork obviously isn't finished yet. I mean, look at the rivers...

Nice screenshots. I'm impressed. Let's hope they don't release it until it's ready.

Steam now have a listing for Civ V with a release date of 1 September 2010. Not sure sure how accurate their info is but it's there.
