This is an event I plan to be holding for the month of April, 2016. It will be a community thing where anyone can enter with Civilizations, Mod Components or anything else that can be played/used in-game. This will start at the beginning of the month and end at the beginning of the next. Hopefully we can get some good submissions through that will stand the test of time!

Voting
Voting will begin on 5/1/2016 which is when the Community will decide the winner for each individual category. Upon the end of voting dates the winners will be announced for all to behold!

Going to bump this thread up as it's going to start soon. Current Judges we have decided are myself and bane_.

Dang, I would've loved to have participated with my Luxembourg Civ mod... It's just that I've started coding (and starting many forum threats :p) around March 20th, rather than in April... Ah well, I might participate with another Civ once I get new (civ) ideas :D (Other minuscule modern empires such as Andorra perhaps? I don't know why, but I feel like they deserve a mention in a game. I want to make those 85000 inhabitants happy and proud of their society :D)

Anyway, I wish everyone participating the best of luck! Keniisu and bane_, enjoy the many nice mods that you two will receive! May the coding gods be in our favour this month!

I did most of the work for Korea on the 26th, and I believe GPuzzle's already started on the Ming lua which we began like two days ago, so I won't be submitting anything.

I'll participate with a civ. Some art has been done, but no code at all. Perhaps this would courage me to release something new. :)

Such as this one by LordRJ?

Oops, that's what happens when I don't check steam or these forums before I say something about a Civilization
Anyway, there will probably be still many other (unmodded) micro-countries in Europe! (But I'll be sure to google that first :p)

#MonacoCivMatters . We need to trend this!

Haha, I've contacted ruhrgebietheld about this Civ since he had an idea about it quite some time ago. He told me that he'd love to cooperate. So yeah, we might send in the Monaco Civ for the challenge! :D

#MonacoCivMatters

Now I actually want this thing! #MonacoCivMatters lol.
If anybody needs art for their mod I'm willing to do as many requests as I can do. So first come' first serve I suppose :)

This isn't confirmed, but I'm pretty sure me and Ajsieg will join this challenge. With a Jainpur civ, all conditions meet. Just need confirmation from Ajsieg on joining though.

I would like to participate perhaps... is there a registration for this or something? Or do we just need to announce here our desire. :P

Anyways I didn't start my mod til April 2nd as is shown by the thread. So I'm assuming that qualifies.

Given that there are no competition parameters (must be something maritime, must use technique/feature Xyz, etc) each month (ie you can enter absolutely anything), and you're relying solely on people's honesty as to when they started something (you'll never know if someone cut the first line of XML/SQL/Lua on the first of the month or the last day of the preceding month anyway, let alone the issue of reusing code from previous efforts - a lot of my mods use code and/or template XML/SQL from previous mods) why not just judge anything released (and explicitly entered) during the month?

Well me and SgtWolf00 would love to do this. We're going to make a civ that we honestly haven't started on. Hopefully we can get it done in a month :).

Does such a competition need to have specific judges? In other Civilization series covered by Civfanatics, it's been a poll that decides.

Not really a fan of this. Mods are rarely started and finished in one month, nor do I think it's fair to expect others to wait a month before they begin developing a mod if they had the idea in March.

Having a limited set of judges opens the door for bias - how do the submitters know if they favor DLL mods or "pretty" mods like civs - what is the judgment criteria? How do we objectively determine if one mod is better than the other?

First of all, kudos to the author of this thread for coming up with this idea, I think its great. That said I have an alternative set of rules that should be considered for this contest:

An alternative might be to have specific requirements to be considered for different "categories", instead of judges. And instead of judges letting the community vote on the mods they like best entered into each category. So it would be more like People's Choice awards rather than Emmies.

The mods could have been started at any point in time. However, they must not be a "community" style mod, or a major project that has already received recognition by the community i.e. mods with their own forums.

The contest would run til first week in July giving people approximately 3 month.

In order to enter, the modder must register here by posting their intentions to enter. and be entered into a list for mods running in each category.

Note that any future recurrences of this contest (i.e. if we decide to hold it annually) excludes any mods entered into previous contests.

Rewards might be front page coverage, and a special title created by the forum moderators. Someone might even create a "trophy" avatar.

That's a great idea! Question though, would you be able to enter in more than 1 category? E.g. take part in the newbie and additional civilization category?
