[LP] Civilization VI: Leader Pass - Predict the leader abilities

I agree, but if they think they need a unit either one of those would do. Ironclad sounds more interesting.
Ironclads were first used in the Civil War, so it fits. It also fits "gunboat diplomacy"

It would be cool for them to be able to use rivers, but of course that would require a reworking on how all of civ6 maps work.
A rework of rivers is long overdue in Civ7, but I think that ship has sailed, pun intended, in Civ6.

If that happens then they should make all of Viking Harald's naval melee units use rivers as well. :)

Indeed, they should bring it back to the center of the tile like old civ games.

--provide movement bonus
--provide trade route bonus of some kind
--water units that can only travel shallow water can move onto river tiles. water units that can use "ocean" tiles can't.

Do you really want America to get a unique plantation...under the guy who ended plantation slavery, at least technically? :shifty:
A plantation replacement*. Definitely not the same thing :-)

Lincoln I expect a domestic bonus of sorts from. His most celebrated accomplishment is the abolition of slavery, so anything that could reference with that (luxuries from city states, infrastructure, prod) is the direction we should look. Amenities and Prod, similar to Scotland in theme but not execution. A UI that gives these additional bonuses + not being able to build conventional plantations could fit this.

Nzinga on the other hand: my money would be on Envoys combined with a defensive combat (historically accurate, but may be a bit too similar to Vietnam) or Housing bonus (that screenshot of her capital had 40+ housing, with 60 beakers per turn), maybe scaling with every CS she's the suzerain of?

Considering he wanted America to focus more on the industrial and manufacturing side, and not agriculture, this might be it.
Hatred for plantations would just be more fun flavor, which I would gladly welcome.

Gotta watch out for that northern aggression.

My prediction, Abe cannot declare a surprise war, but gets bonus CS in liberation and reconquest wars, and unlocks them early.

The first is already Canada's ability.

Are people actually using the casus belli options? It must be like 95% formal or surprise wars, 5% everything else in my case.

I think there's always a possibility that Holy Wars and Colonial Wars could be a part of Sultan Saladin's and Nzinga's abilities. Though they might be another passive ability that would only trigger if someone declares one of those wars on you, so not ideal.

I use casus belli whenever I have chance. The reason for this is my highly opportunistic playstyle. Usually I form an empire by conquering few neighbours in early mid game. After that I only occasionally wage war but usually I'm rather peaceful. Having AI:s denouncing me constantly for only mildly causing highly brutal wars a thousand years ago is no fun.

Nzingaa ability will probably have both a big bonus and malus, to balance Mvembas malus.

The malus could be that she can't declare non joint wars to force her to use diplomacy.

The bonus will be something with alliances and or joint wars. I like the idea someone had of unique alliance type. Or all yields from alliances are doubled and or joint wars give some combat b +5 per alliance she has.

What was said during the livestream makes it sound like her ability relates to religion and relics.

In the livestream, they mentioned that Abes ability would cause friction within its own borders (if I’m not mistaken) so I’m expecting some kind of loyalty malus which will be unimpactful except in cases of Dark Age and Eleanor…. Coupled with an absurdly strong ability. Call me jaded 🥰

Also, I saw on the screenshot thread that our new Queen seems to have a reduction in theatre square adjaceny (assuming it’s not a doctored screenshot) - which amused me to no end as you would think it would be Abe who has the theatre square malus… 😂

They were using base game rules so the Theater Square adjacency added up, no malus.

Yeah, a penalty to Loyalty is basically no penalty...

He doesn't require expansions, so it can't be loyalty related.
I'm sure it might have to do with luxuries and amenities, or lack thereof. I hope we're on the right track and he can't build plantations, or something like that causing unhappiness. :dunno:

Friction can mean two things: either Amenities or Grievances. Lincoln was mostly known for his domestic policies, so my money's on the former.

Controversial implies its some crazy, off-the-wall Mali-like malus. With Amenities, and tying into Lincoln's abolution of Slavery: what if Lincoln doesn't get Amenities bonuses from Luxury resources, but penalties? In return, he'd get a significant yield boost to improved resources (developing Industry was another one of his things), but he'd be forced to look for Amenities elsewhere, such as building Entertainment Complexes or trade.

Alternatively, Lincoln cannot improve Luxury resources, but instead gets yield bonuses for building improvements and/or districts adjacent to them instead?

I could see that being the case if it were triggered by a certain civic or technology.
