Civilization VI talks to me

Not fixed well; there are any number of games I've played that have skipped the +X entirely and gotten right to the arbitrary convoluted-yet-shallow network of decisions.

Civ Games are notable for including the +X element. ;)

There are a number of these threads going up complaining about Civilization VI. They rarely contribute anything of value.

At every stop since Civ II we've had the same phenomenon: a new civ comes out, and some of the fanbase immediately goes into the whole "Civ is dead" mode. First Civ game I played was III, and when I joined the forums I was amazed at how often people would slam Civ III as not being as good as Civ II. People were screaming that it had "betrayed the soul the game" and other such things.

And btw, Civilization has never, EVER, been a Paradox grand strategy game. You can like both for what they are. I like Chess, Monopoly, Dungeons and Dragons and Twilight Struggle and recognize they are not the same games but with the right players/mood are lots of fun. Because that's what this all comes down to at the end: games are to provide as sense of fun and enjoyment.

And now comes Civ6, with no word on these core mechanics being fixed..

Not really true. Ed Beach has specifically stated that all system have been rebuilt from the ground up. So there is very much 'word' that the mechanics will be improved.

Of course if you disbelieve Ed that is another matter. However considering how he improved a heavily flawed Civ V vanilla to a pretty decent game in BNW (without comparing to Civ IV) I think there is very good reason to be optimistic.
