and got updated. after a couple of days.
though not every unit is named properly.
here
^ The unit is labelled as 'Trireme' (how do the site knows?), in through it is better named as either Quinquereme or Polyreme (the latter is more generic to describe naval evolutions, it has tower, something too heavy to fit in any trireme except maybe the Roman variants. actually 'Quadrireme' in Civ6 is mislabelled more or less, but it is still abit shorter to me so it is correctly named but mis-categorized (IRL quadrireme is a hard hitting charger ship and not a lumbering shooters warships like the Quinquereme))
And also here
^ Both of these are labelled as 'Carrack' while these are infact 'cogs' the first 'roundship' that also the first sailer to be used as warships, and even purpost built variants exists in addition to auxiliary ships requisitioned from civilians. it is said that the Crusaders use these rather slow ungainy sailers first in the First Crusade as warships, and later English fleet against French in the Battle of Sluys in 1340 AD).
Carracks are evolved from the two distinct ships at the two different locations,
- Cogs; note that Genoese merchant navy evolved them, enlarging hulls and add front masts (square rigged just like the original) and mizzenmast (latin rigged), and said to test ones as a potential warship design in the Battle of La Rochelle (1370, between English Fleet and Castillian Fleet). North Europeans continued this naval evolution to its limits especially with the advent of big guns, Note hat early carracks are clinker built, but later were caravel-built
- Caravela; This is due to Portuguese experience with caravels, after Diaz (or someone else) reached Cap de Boa Esperanca (Good Hope), they quickly discovered that their very branchild--caravel, which originally capable of sailing past Cape Bojador with no problems, had reached its potential limit so they went back to drawing board and perfect caravelas, enlarging ones and replacing two first masts with square sails, and they invented Carrack (called Nau)
@raen and
@Boris Gudenuf will fill us more on this. i'll leave to the two since both knows better.
