One might guess that Waset was mightily besieged at some point in history. Buried weapons and military camping traces along the whole perimeter. I see why they felt the need to build that wallView attachment 731842
Extremely convenient dig site locations!

While attacking Qohayto, Amina was also at war with Xerxes... Who signed a peace deal giving him the city... Which shunted my galleys to the nearest available free coastal space.... In the distant lands. Guess that's one way to do some early exploration!
It appears so, though there were only about 4 turns left in the age so I didn't get much... That said, I guess the same thing could happen if you make peace with an AI while having units in their territory so... Could this the a way to slingshot a settler into the distant lands under the right circumstances? Can you get the goody huts in this situation? I hate it so much when a city I'm doing all the fighting for is given to my ally, but in this case you've been given a huge advantage.
I was recently playing a game with the Continents++ map from YNAMP, and sometimes the map generation accidentally gives coastal tiles that allow access to Distant Lands in the Ancient Era. I tried to send a Settler over to the island to found a city, but the game wouldn’t let me disembark (almost as if they were impassable tiles like mountains and some Natural Wonders). I don’t know if that same restriction would happen in your situation on a base-game map.It appears so, though there were only about 4 turns left in the age so I didn't get much... I'm imagining a play where you set up a city that can do the slingshot, give it to the AI as a peace deal, then declare war again and use it to reach the distant lands...
I'll keep an eye out for opportunities to try it out...I was recently playing a game with the Continents++ map from YNAMP, and sometimes the map generation accidentally gives coastal tiles that allow access to Distant Lands in the Ancient Era. Similarly, I've found that since one of the recent updates, it's now possible to enter the Bermuda Triangle in the ancient era, but it will only send you to coastal waters in the homelands, and not to distant lands, until exploration era.I was recently playing a game with the Continents++ map from YNAMP, and sometimes the map generation accidentally gives coastal tiles that allow access to Distant Lands in the Ancient Era. BeautifulFarming on Achaemenid Xerxes for that lvl 9 memento. Behold, the contiguous 46-tile long Ming Great Wall:

Now that I think about it, I couldn’t even disembark on Distant Land islands with my Scout to snatch up some Goody HutsI ended up in the DL in a few games in antiquity. I didn‘t try to found a city, because I never managed with a settler. But if you happen to meet a civ or a city state, you cannot interact with them.
Have had several games where I could see 'Distant Lands' across a tile or two of deep water, and one which I got a unit to the coastal waters around a Distant Lands island by displacement, but the definition of Distant Lands in-game seems to be See But Do Not Touch until Exploration, no matter what the physical distance is.Now that I think about it, I couldn’t even disembark on Distant Land islands with my Scout to snatch up some Goody Huts
Open Ocean should probably block vision until either Exploration age or some Exploration age tech.Have had several games where I could see 'Distant Lands' across a tile or two of deep water, and one which I got a unit to the coastal waters around a Distant Lands island by displacement, but the definition of Distant Lands in-game seems to be See But Do Not Touch until Exploration, no matter what the physical distance is.
I had that same thing happen to me today.View attachment 719053
Alert Gordon Lightfoot. I've got a hurricane in my lake.
Right now, even without the Memento Mappi Mundi in play, scouts can frequently spot Distant Lands just off-shore. That's really good for spotting where to build a potential Wharf city for Exploration Age (another of the Future Strategy moves that Humans can make but the AI doesn't seem to be able to) but really frustrating when all you can do is spit the Distant Land but not 'touch' it.Open Ocean should probably block vision until either Exploration age or some Exploration age tech.
Yeah, it creates a weird feel when you can see but not reach. So fixing it so that Ocean blocked vision until ?AstronomyII or Shipbuilding? would be good.Right now, even without the Memento Mappi Mundi in play, scouts can frequently spot Distant Lands just off-shore.
